1975 CB550 F cafe... SV650/Ninja frankenbike getting FULL PROFILE SHOTS 12/10

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

You might need to cut down the sprocket carrier to help with chain alignment. Which will also help with the clearance issues.

yeah, i was thinking i would probably do that, just cut down the surface that teh sprocket mounts to, right?

Yes, but it needs to spun up in a lathe or milled off precisely....or bad things will happen

This is going to be a fun little bike with all of the suspension mods.

You must either do a ton of research or be a very lucky fellow...It is rare for these frankensteins to go together so easily.

Thanks!

I will take it to a shop to have them trim it down.

I researched the swingarm, found that it was almost a perfect fit for the bike, then found that it had a 17 mm axle, AND that the SV rear had a 17 mm axle....

the stem fitting in the clamp, THAt was luck.

Cool build. I love it when a guy is on a tight budget. More creativity, less run of the mill bling.

I was hating your colour at first, but it has grown on me as you added more.

Really like what you are doing.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

Thanks, it has been a challenge, not being able to throw cash at this thing.

I got very lucky with the wheels and the included brakes, because there are good tires and good brakes included with them.

to run the wire wheels, I would have needed spokes, brakes, tires and tubes, and it would have cost me more than the swap did!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

Run with what you can get your hands on. A bike like this will never really be "finished" and you can tweak things along the way if you find the right parts or come into some cash.

Just really nice to see you getting by without $500 laser etched triple trees etc. ;D

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

HAHA, what I wouldn't do to have $500 to throw at this thing!

thanks again, I'm glad that people can appreciate what I am doing here, even if it is just for me!!!! yep, I'm selfish ;)

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

I need input!!!!

should I keep the box section swingarm silver, so it kinda shows off teh fact that it's aluminum.....or do i paint it black, to match the frame?

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

Awsome build man. I thnk i would leave the swing arm. It could give you a nice contrast... just my 2 pennies... Gonna be a killer lookin and riding bike when its all done either way though.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

How bout you polish the crap out of it and spray some clear? It should look sick, and if all polished isn't you thing, you could always paint the tops, and leave the middle polished or vise versa.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

hmmmm, the silver was my original thought.

I LIKE the polish idea, but paint most of it.

then i was thinking, painting it black, with the 3 spoke alloy rims black...people would see the wheels and say Whoah, cool.....then see the black aluminum swingarm and say NICE!!! it would take a discerning eye to figure that out.

AHHHHH I'm so confused lol

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

I'd leave it. I love the contrast.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

Thanks all for the input, I'm still not sure what I want to do.

I am kinda liking the red wheels with the blue though ;)

just wanted to mock the wheel up in the stock swinger since I got my axle today.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

well I had to mock it up to see how far off my chain would be.....and it's right on with the wheel aligned right and everything....

BUT I need to take some meat off the carrier, and fab up some swing arm spacers....

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

I got my rear master cylinder today. I think if I remove the stop from the original brake assembly, I can rotate the actuator to actuate the brake cylinder. I do not want to do rearsets on this at this time.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

alright guys.....I need some input....I can't figure out how to mount and actuate the rear master cylinder with the stock brake lever....I need to get this thing moving! I wanna ride it!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

Need some pics to see what you're working with, but basically you need the MC to sit pretty well vertical, so the actuator needs to be at around 9 o'clock, as opposed to 12 o'clock for the drum actuator. Make sense??
