1975 CB550 F cafe... SV650/Ninja frankenbike getting FULL PROFILE SHOTS 12/10

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

You could try to find a gs 500 wheel it has the same spoke design as the sv. Its like 3.5 inches. I forget the axle size but I'm sure you could make it work. Keep it up.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

Lookin good. Is that a Mac 4n1 pipe? Did it fit-up nicely?

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

your best bet is to find a set of FZR wheels, they are all over the place! i just saw a set of them go front and rear for 45 bucks for the set! they are all over the place man.... hell if i would have known i just gave a set away when i got my front end

this is what they look like

thank you, it is the mac, once again, the economical choice.....it fit the head well enough, but when i put the muffler on, it was about 3/4" away from the peg mount, but it pulled in with the bolt no problem

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

Was the SV front a direct swap? or did you have to grind out the head stock to make it work?

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

I will be swapping in the Honda steering stem, I'm sure I could make the SV stem work, but being cheap, and having just bought tapered bearings for the Honda, ill use that one

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

now I have to figure out how to mount the headlight on these forks, the cheap EMGO ones wont fit.....and can't seem to find anything readily available to fit (that isn't harley expensive)

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

well, I found that the stock honda stem fits in the Suzuki tree PERFECTLY!!!

step 1: grind weld, press out Honda stem

step 2: heat up and press stem out of tree, breaking retaining clip that I ddnt know was there....lol

Step 3: tap stem into tree, weld....VOILA!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

Thanks!
the fork swap is happening way easier than I thought....still need to find something for my rear wheel, my ninja parts fell through :( prob ride it this season with teh wire wheel in the back

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

what did you use to press it out?

those arented inverted forks are they? look awfully small xP

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

I hope you mounted up the forks and top clamp before you welded the stem - it might not be straight otherwise

The honda one came out with a hammer and socket after grinding the weld.

the SV one probably could have come out the same way, if I had known it should have been pressed through, and not out. ended up maxing out the hydraulic press, until the snapring broke!!! ;)

They are standard forks, I did not want USD forks, and they are 41 mm, a full 8 mm bigger than the 550 forks, and can't forget, the dual rotors, and dual pot calipers! :)

I have not welded it yet, but there is no way it could NOT be straight, it's a tight fit, just like in the honda tree, it took some tapping to get it in

The heat generated from the welding can distort the stem in the tree. Don't think it can't happen.

I did a stem swap in my GS450 build and had to weld up the stem. It's not hard to ensure it's straight - bolt the forks and top clamp back on with the front axle to ensure it's all straight. Weld the stem in, let it cool down and you're done. Better to do this than risk the off chance of having a skewed stem ;)

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

yeah, that's true...good call...

I guess I have to DRIVE over there tomorrow :( lol

THANKS!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

I just talked to the guy i got my front end from.

The SV wheel from sprocket to rotor is only 7/8" wider than the Stock Honda wheel from sprocket to outer part of brake drum.

This SHOULD work out pretty well, I may need to mount a smaller tire, as the SV uses a 160 rear, and I bet the chain may hit that.

he is going to hook me up with the wheel, a tire (and all the spare rear SV tires I could ever need lol), the rotor, sprocket, all the spacers, and a bunch of other stuff if he can find it.

this is going to be a VERY tight fit, but I think the 160 tire on the ninja swingarm will work!

have a 39 tooth sprocket on the way, which will get rid of the sprocket interference

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... fork swap done, swingarm swap next! ...3/22

managed to finish up the fork swap this morning.

had to remove 1/8" from the top clamp so i could use the top nut.
