Matt - that looks sweet. How does it sound, any different?

I have that same exhaust on my 360, I think it sounds great... It's not a quiet exhaust. Sounds a lot meaner than a stock exhaust.

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 4/12 MAC 2-1 Exhaust Installed!!!)

Just got back from about 25-30 miles. I LOVE this exhaust. It's transformed my bike. It honestly is not too loud, in my opinion, whatsoever. It has a nice rumble when you're getting on it, but is very subdued when you're just cruising. I dont know if it's just my head or not but it seems to have opened up the bike a good bit and added a little more oomph. I may need to rejet as Im getting a bit of backfire when decelerating in gear/downshifting.

Thanks to this exhaust I was able to finally lower my rearsets on the shift side which gave me a MUCH more comfortable riding position. I'm very very pleased.

Congrats Matt. Sounds like it is coming along nicely, it looks great. I wanna hear that exhaust. Mine on the 450 is SOOOOO quiet when i'm not getting on it. Weather tomorrow is supposed to be in the 70's, If your out and about let me know. I will try to catch up and see the bike and go for a ride.
Its a great feeling to be getting down to the little things with the bike. Every time I think I am getting close I find 3 other small things to deal with. I know mine may ever be truly done.

Ill probably be out for a short ride tomorrow at some point. Im going up to Lebanon to watch the F1 race. Haven't decided if Im going to take the bike or the S2000. If I had known you were around, I could have rode over to your place just now...just got home from a ~hour ride.

My bike is stashed in Oakley/Hyde Park. I will be out and about tomorrow as well. I was looking to see if any other local guys were getting out tomorrow but no word yet. If weather holds the Oakley takeover next Friday may be a definite meet for me this week.

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 4/12 MAC 2-1 Exhaust Installed!!!)

Update!

(still no video! :p)

So I bought a spare CB360 gas tank off of eBay to use for my seat cowl. I finally got around to cutting it down once I decided on the shape I wanted. This is VERY rough for now. I still have to strip the cowl, smooth out all of the cuts, sand, etc., but you can get the idea. Now, my whole thing with a cafe seat was wanting to retain the stock seat pan and hinge for access.

Hot off the press:

Test fit on OEM seat pan with OEM seat foam (none removed). Looks pretty sharp with the lines of the bike!

Test fit profile

How it fits with me

QUESTION FOR INPUT

I am tall. Too tall for this bike, to be honest. I know the "proper" cafe seat sits lower with a "bump" at the cowl. With my rearsets and seating position, I really cannot afford to drop 2-3" in seating position. Would it look terrible to upholster as-is (height wise)? Im primarily chasing the aesthetic of the cowl. What are your guys' thoughts?

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 5/18 Cafe Seat Build)

That does look nice.... Good idea.

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 5/18 Cafe Seat Build)

How tall are you? I have a normal lowered cafe seat, with clipons and stock foot pegs it's pretty uncomfortable and I'm around 6'1" with boots, so there are definitely those taller then me. I got some rearsets and I just need to figure out how to mount them and all, but I still can't figure out how to make it comfortable while still functional

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 5/18 Cafe Seat Build)

Just finished reading through the thread. Great build bud! Can't believe the price and condition you scored the bike for. JEALOUS. North of the border, you can't get a bike like that without driving 4 or 5 hours north of Toronto. I was thinking about the rearset/seat question myself. I'm looking from a different perspective, put on a cafe seat and delay putting on rearsets... Of coarse, if it's too uncomfortable I'll just bite the bullet and install rearsets... I'm only 5'7", I almost feel like I might be ok! How are you finding the stock seat and rearset combo?

I've got my 78 CB 400 T in pieces, will start a build thread soon, I've had it for a while and neglected it... Just got laid off from work as a geologist in Senegal, moving back to Toronto in a few days... Here's hoping the silver lining is I'll complete the bike.

Hot Action

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 5/18 Cafe Seat Build)

The stock seat and rearset combo is plenty comfortable. However, I'm 6'4, so what works for me definitely won't translate well to you. I came to find out that my bike came with a CL360 seat, which I believe to sit just a bit higher than the CB360 seat.

Thanks for the reply, I'll test a few things out and post my findings.

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 5/18 Cafe Seat Build)

Matt,
IMHO the cowl and seat will blend well. It still looks to have a slight upsweep to the cowl. Reminds me of the look of the Triumph removable cowl (which again in my opinion) looks great.

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 5/18 Cafe Seat Build)

Yea, Im just going to fill in the gap with foam, shave down the hump in the OEM foam, and gently slope it up to the cowl. Then Ill take it to an upholsterer.

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 5/18 Cafe Seat Build)

Spent a few hours cleaning up the cowl, stripping the paint, and removing all of the NASTY dried and gummed up fuel on the inside. I rounded off the sharp edges since I don't want them to rub through the inside of the cover once it's installed.

I really enjoyed making the cowl. If I were able to get old tanks cheap enough, Id really enjoy doing this for a small side-gig. The tank alone would cost me more than the cowl would sell for, though. Ill just be proud that I made this once it's on the bike!
