Damn winter set me back. Hopefully I can get it done for spring and not till summer.
Down here in backwards Australia, I have been putting off working on my GS because of the heat. It has been like 95F and 85%humidity most days here.
I am hoping to have mine on the road for Autumn leading into winter.

Yours has to be gettin close Bubba, time for an update on yours I think.
I added to my post Brodie, might interest you to recheck it. ;)

Dammit HD, now I have something else to spend money on. I am more of a fan of the tube style swing arm though.
I wonder how it would handle with the already long wheel base.

While we are on the topic of improvements, I figure I will post this frame strengthening picture I found.

Hi. Sorry to jump back here but I have a few questions about that DCC Thruxton seat - It looks really good by the way. Are you happy with the quality and was it easy to follow the contour for the frame hoop? Did you use their fitting kit?
Just to let you guys know that it's raining here in the UK. That's what it does here. Every day for months, Ad infinitum.....maybe I'll ride in June - in Spain!

What's a little bit of rain in the plain when every day I get wetter than an otter's pocket? This is a picture of where my brother lives just a few miles from me. Seriously - we need towels!

It wasn't to hard to trim the seat to the hoop. The stock seat goes flat across so I trimmed maybe 1.5 inches. I just used a dremel and eye balled it.

I'm not sure what is worst the snow or all that rain! I'm fore sure ready for the low temperatures to be over.

Thanks for the info but was the frame hoop from DCC too as the radius looks identical to that of the seat?

Yes, I bought the hoop from DCC too. I paid extra for the upsweep, but ended up cutting most of it off.

Has anyone ever relocated the ignition key mechanism? I want to keep the front of the bike as clean as possible so I'm trying to think of the best place to mount the ignition where it's more hidden.

I am not up to that stage but I do plan to. I am thinking of removing it all together in favor of RFID. See how my budget is though.

yup.. but my gs is a drastic conversion from the stock gs... I also used and aftermarket ignition... I fabricated an electrical box/tube under the seat.

Just stumbled onto this thread. Awesome. Lots o' ideas for my g's build...

Can't wait to see finished product.....

Hey Brodie, how do you plan on setting up a RFID ignition system? Do you have a write up or information because that sounds very interesting. Another thing I would be interested in is some people will setup their garage door opener to be wireless so once you get near the garage door it opens automatically. I haven't been able to find any good information on this.

Looks pretty simple. How secure are these compared to using a key. Can these be spliced pretty easy to start the bike without the keyfob?

looks simple... secure? I put a bike on the back of a pickup and steal it with or without the key.. ;) Nothing is theft proof...

Very true. I've never used anything like that before so besides the convenience of it I didn't know if it made it easier to rewire to start.

So this weekends project is to breakdown the carbs, clean, dip and reassemble. I've bought seals and new allen bolts, but the jets I've not purchased. I was planning on buying the K&N double filters and will eventually go with the MAC 4-1 exhaust. Any idea what size jets I need to buy and will I need to change anything else on the carbs besides that? Is there any homemade tool I can use to sync the carbs when all done?

As I am building a new wiring harness (the old one was melted by the previous owner) it will not be to difficult to set up.

There are several, ranging from clear hoses on a board

to glass bottles with rubber stoppers and hoses.

Google "DIY carb sync" or "DIY manometer"

I think that's something I can do. The carb tools are expensive and I'm already over budget.

Another note: So I was asking the guys over at GS Resource about jetting since I'm going with MAC 4-1 and APE pods and they all pretty much say I need a dyno jet kit. Is there a way to get by with bigger jets only or will it run like crap? I'm trying to avoid buying a $100 jet kit.
