360 swiftly

Re: 360 swiftly

Mikuni's were always on the list as a possible upgrade if I couldn't get the stock carbs right. I have a vm 26 on my pit bike the quality it great and tuning it was super easy.

Anyone have any insight on a good place to order a set of vm's, what size, and a good place to start for jetting.

One other question that I haven't quite figured out yet. How do you sync vm's? Would I have to fab up some type of port into the carb boots?

kind of off topic, butt i read you might want to get rid of your exaust if you do i would love to take that cl exaust off your hands, keep me poasted if you do Thanks

Sorry I am not getting rid of it. I am just adding some mufflers to it.

30's should work great for you and I'd try Dime City first....if they don't have'm they will get them for you.

Re: 360 swiftly

Thanks Swagger.

The carbs are the least of my worries right now. Here is a nice picture of the bike dead on the side of the road taken yesterday. Luckily I was only a mile from my parents house and they were home.

Electrical completely died, and the engine would barely idle. I have to do some trouble shooting on the battery /charging system. The starter has been pretty weak for the past couple days. I plan to investigate tonight.

Let's see how this works. Uploading images from the phone via tapatalk.

Sorry to hear about your electrical issues. I once saw a vintage bike for sale on CL, and it appeared to be a very well loved bike that was in excellent condition. Despite that, the owner was honest in his ad and stated that it was a great bike that always "needed something". The bike still sold fairly quickly.

They're quirky, but they've got more style.

So I have been extremely busy lately with getting ready to move to a new place, but I finally had time to mess around with the bike. The only thing that I have learned is that my battery is fried. It reads out 12.5 volts when sitting but with any kind of load it is about one volt. Everything on the bike seems to be ok when I hooked it up to my old lead acid battery but I haven't tried to start it yet. I am not sure what would fry the battery like this other than vibration. Any ideas? The battery is a SLA UB12120

doing some research right now on those batteries, and it seems that they may not be suited to handle the full charging load of our bikes

That's designed for off road bikes with minimal charging systems.
Good chance it will explode on a 'real' charging system.
Don't take this too personal, I haven't launched into a tirade for a long time. (I been sick )
First off, do at least a minimal amout of research before posting question.
If anyone is too stupid to find out what type of charging system they have, YOU DON'T FUCK WITH IT. (REALLY )
Just because you can hack a decent bike up and then later get it running, it doesn't make you a bike builder, mechanic or 'artist'
There are two basic alternating current (AC) charging systems, electromagnetic (EMS) and permanent magnet (PMS)
Go back to high-school physics to see how they work
If you have or are doing a degree in electronics, this is simple stuff (so you probably wouldn't be asking)
I'm pretty certain your Kawasaki has an EMS, almost identical to CB400/500/750 Honda.
Voltage is regulated but amperage is not.
What it mean's, you can have about 20~30 amps hitting battery when regulator switches on/off.
(I regularly weld on 20 amp setting)
Stock battery can 'absorb' excess current, average rarely goes over 6~8 amps, usually lower if everything is in good condition
When you switch to smaller battery it may react differently, if you keep up on maintainance it may be OK (sealed batteries are not good from this standpoint, they do 'boil' dry then have all sorts of wierd problems)
OK, rant over for now

real it in. That's uncalled for...a bullshit response to a question he wanted an answer for.
You want to be a dick, do so on another site especially in light of your lack of a better option. Perhaps you should continue your research.

Thanks for looking out Swagger. I will admit I was taken back when first reading this then I realized it was a quote of a crazypj post on another thread. :)

In other news I was able to start the bike with my old battery and every thing with the charging system is fine. It is just the chinese battery. This time I will not buy the cheapest one!

No worries brother, but really...quoting a dickhead response is still...a dickhead response.

you got me, thanks for calling me out on being an dick head.. thats how i meant my response.. tell the guy i like is bike, take some of his cues in my own build and then just drop a big one on him when has some battery problems..

sorry if my quotation ruffled some feathers guys, lets all get back to working on our motorcycles and pretend like little quirky quotes like this don't bother us because we are adults here and understand a bit of properly sourced sarcasm on the internet means no harm

really, back on topic, hows she running? aside from the battery, any clearance issues with the license plate or seat pan?

Its been almost a month scene I touched the bike. Looks like doing any serious riding this year is out of the question. I have spent the past few weeks preparing to move to a new place with the girlfriend. Now that we are in I still haven't had time to organize the garage. My priority for now is to get the bike to my new place whether it be on a truck or under its own power.

I probably have 2 or 3 hours of work to get the thing ride-able again hopefully next weekend I will get it done.
I have to hook up the new battery and some minimal wiring and finish working on the exhaust and installing the new mufflers.

I will definitely be buying a set of mikuni's over the winter once all the spending on house things has calmed down.

Exhaust is done. I had to ditch the midway support for the pipes to get the mufflers to fit. I used the hangers supplied with the mufflers to make some support brackets off of the passenger peg mount. I also started pricing out VM30's which will be going on in the next few months. I still have to do some investigating into why I can't get the right cylinder to run smooth. The two things I have narrowed it down to are a bad carb or burned valves. The compression was good the last time I checked a couple of months ago (I will be checking it again tomorrow) so hopefully the carbs will solve all my issues if not I have the winter to figure it out.

And I have decided that the bike is staying at my dad's garage over the winter. It's 45mins away but look at all those tools! It's so much easier to work there.

Nice build! The bike looks great. :) Are those flairs at the end of the muffler? I've never seen that before.

How do you like the way the painted engine came out? What color / type of paint did you use?

I don't remember the size but there is tons of info on the K&N site. They are K&N RU-2660 I think I ordered them from Jegs. They where expensive but I know that K&N makes a really solid filter.

Hey, I'm being quoted ;D
K&N are much better quality than the majority of knock off filters.
I bought some Chinese junk off SFL (cheap, $26.00 for four)
The rubber mounting is smaller than cab intake
The filter part looks OK so I'm cutting them up and making some new (alloy) mounts
