Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Frame out for powder coating
I got one fork rebuilt today. New seal, new boot, fresh fork oil, new fork bolt and a fresh polish. Here's the rebuilt one next to the gross old one... it'll get rebuilt tomorrow night. Taking the wife out for her birthday dinner in a few.
Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Fork rebuild under way
Got both forks refurbished... now just need to get my wheels trued and tires mounted and hopefully by end of this week I might have a roller if the powder coater pulls through with my frame.
Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Fork rebuild under way
Frame is back from Powder, Picked it up at lunch time today Looks great, I'm stoked to get back into building this thing. Unfortunately I didn't get the Swing arm powdered, I forgot to press out the lower shock bushings the coater didn't want to do it... so I have to press those out and take it back, probably another week before I get the swing arm back. I also dropped my wheels off to be trued up and have the tires mounted. I'll get this thing up to a rolling chassis and get started on the wiring soon enough...
Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Reassembly under way....
So I started putting this thing back together a bit.. First thing to go back on is the steering bearings... I installed a set of All Balls Racing Tapered Roller Bearings. Packed em with a white grease... smooth.
And shot a coat of se primer on the rear sprocket. I'll get that shot black shortly.
Wheels should be back from truing and mounting this week or early next.
Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Reassembly under way....
Well I can't get the lower shock mount bushings out of the swing arm, but the ones in it are in good condition, no cracking rubber is pliable... so they are staying and I'm painting the swing arm instead of powder coating it. I did get the Swing arm bushings out with no issue. They'll be replaced with new bronze bushings. Here's the swing arm after a shot of Self Etching primer.
Got a surprise call, my wheels were ready to pickup this morning. Only $80 for a pair of tubes, truing both wheels and mounting the tires and internally balancing. Guess it doesn't take that much time and effort if you are competent. The guy I found to do the work has been doing this stuff since the '50s. Supposed to be top notch work... I've also got a spacer coming for CrazyPJ to eliminate the speedo gearbox. I'll wait till that arrives before mounting up the forks. I've still got to cut down the front fender anyway...
Here are the wheels with the Avon Roadriders installed.
I got the forks installed... Slipped the headlight ears and clip-ons on. Tomorrow I'll get the fender cut down, the chrome on my fender is good, I'm hoping to be able to polish and clear coat the cuts and keep the chrome look... If that doesn't work out, the fender will get painted to match the tank and seat.
Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Reassembly under way....
Today I fabricated a mounting bracket for my tail light. I'm going to use a Flexible LED Run/Brake/Turn light from Radiantz. Should look sweet... I'm going to drill and tap the frame hoop and bolt directly to it.
