76 CB360, Cherry Bomb at Barber's

Re: 76 CB360, Points gap at .011

stretched springs are real 'normal'
I usually cut one end off a single spring and bend the next coil down.
It changes the advance curve but works well
Pretty sure most are a bit loose on the pivots after a few thousand miles

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

I was gonna wait til this winter to start this...However, Im getting bored.

OK, I got enough crap in order now, I am gonna start making an exhaust to fit rear sets.
Keep in mind this only an experimental stage.

The left side is easy...been done a million times by a million guys.

I am planning to run one Highpipe pipe down each side of the bike. I really like the balance of a pipe on each side. Dont get me wrong, guys have done amazing things w the CL High pipes. They are super neat. I just want one on either.

A couple obstacles I will need to work around.

1 clearing the dipstick...so I can check and fill oil.
2 keeping pipes as low as I can, so it dont cook carbs...may have to make a heat shield for added protection.
3 make part of the pipe easily removable. so I can pull the carbs without constantly replacing the crush washer.
4 getting the pipe to fit between frame and kickstarter. without looking like I forgot that part.
5 cut and or move the side stand to clear.
6 Keeping the right side and left side balanced so the look nice and even from the rear.
7 ATTEMPT to achieve and nice finish on the welded joints. I may want these re-chromed before its over.
8 Steal. Bradj's spring idea...for heat shields. He did good on that. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=50114.msg580075#msg580075

Heres the materials I have to work with.

3 pairs of CL360 High pipes
1 pair of CB360 pipes
1 $5 dollar ebay kick-starter
1 scrap piece of pipe
1 pair of stock shocks...not pictured.

LOL, that just looks like a pain in the butt.
Did you turn around and sell the CL pipes you had?

Re: 76 CB360, Making room for rear sets.

Not yet... been lazy. Still need to list 'em on eBay.

Re: 76 CB360, Making room for rear sets.

I would buy em. but now I think I have all I need.

What do you think about this idea of mine?

Re: 76 CB360, Making room for rear sets.

I like it. I do think you should consider using mandrel bends as opposed to cutting up old pipes though.
The CL pipes are a hot item and worth a few bucks and new single-wall pipes are likely to be easier to work with, too.

Re: 76 CB360, Making room for rear sets.

I would buy a set of high pipes from you around the middle of September. (I won't be broke then). Name your price.

Oh geez now look what you started. it took me a long time to collect these. and your starting to make me feel guilty.

100% correct, new mandrel bends are way easier to work with, plus, you can make a 'step' exhaust which is even easier plus helps performance
As the originals are double wall they are real difficult to work with, sometimes you have to cut so much to get inner pipe out it destroys everything
I'm going to do it for 'the blue bike' when I get my act together and make some flanges and spacers
Whatever you use it will need either gas, mig or tig welding, stick will be too difficult on thin material

Hey butzer, Sonreir has a pair for sale right now.

Re: 76 CB360, Making room for rear sets.

OK first of all...thank you. I had no idea these were two pipes in one. Why would honda do that?

Second. you two are a couple A-holes. you have no idea how much time I have spent building this system in my head. Sitting on my garage floor next to this bike. Working all this out. HOURS AND HOURS. staring and planning.

LOL , A-HOLES, I TELL YA, A-HOLES....

Good for heat retention also also keeps the chroming on the outside nice and shiny (prevents bluing).

Guilty as charged. ;D

Re: 76 CB360, Making room for rear sets.

I WAS planning to mig these. I have a little mig welder. Not the best but not the worst either.

And because of the pipes I have, I would be working w somewhat substantial lengths. I dont really think I would need any short short pieces.

if they come out halfway decent I may consider sending them for fresh chrome. Its not like I am working towards perfection, but if they grind and file out pretty decent...why not?

They already have the ends for collars and the wedge thingys.

And the left side is pretty much already pre-done from the factory!

Here is my plan for prepping the cuts for welding...beveled ends. for a better than butt end result.

I actually work at a shop that does ceramic coatings not sure what chrome would run you but I could check with the boss man and see what the price would be if you are interested. Personally I think chrome looks better but ceramic has better corrosion resistance and wont blue and if it does its at very high temps and minimal there is also a slight performance gain with ceramic but thats more thru exhaust scavenging so probably doesn't really apply in this situation. Anyways just figured I would let you know.

I appreciate it bud. I will keep the option in mind. Performance really isnt an issue...we are talking about a cb360.

76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

see there. about 20 minutes and 2 plastic zip ties and Im already halfway done!

Now that I really see it. If I can keep the right side that low. I oughtta be able to pull the carbs out with out removing the exhaust at all.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Left side works, right is going to be a bit more difficult.
If your careful cutting outer pipe you should be able to stagger cuts enough of a different place to weld inner's together and outer's afterwards.
Cut up stock CB pipe's should work for right side, you'll probably need both for one pipe though

Understatement of the year. LOL

I have one, that IM not 100% convinced its CL360...could be a CL??? It looks real close. The round bend at the start seems a bit tighter (rounder) and the tabs for shields are a bit off, not like the other two are identical. thats the one I plan to cut up the most.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Could be 350? port exit is different angle
