Could be 350? port exit is different angle

youre probably correct. There is just something seems a little off about it.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Well, only made one cut on my oddball? high pipe and things are looking pretty good.
I dont believe the end result is gonna look like it was factory formed for the right side of the bike. but not bad either.
However, it clears the the dipstick pretty good. I may have to trim just a touch off the 2 bottom most cooling fins of the jugs. Unless I can make another cut and bring the whole pipe forward just an inch or so. But that may screw up things elsewhere.

Sonreir and PJ were correct...That this is triple wall pipe!!!! No wonder they dont turn BLUE!

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Whats th inside diameter of that one?

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

OD is 1.75", so ID looks to be around 1.5" or so? Way too large, according to my calculations. I think closer to 1.25" would be better.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

3 layers at 1/16" will be 3/8" total and give inch and three eighths internal
Still more than theoretical 1.250" but maybe it's larger because tighter bend on CL/SL pipes?
Interesting, maybe high level pipes should have larger ID, 1.250 short first section and 1.375 on bend

Definitely a consideration. Might be a plausible explanation for the short pipes on the CL models, too?

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

LOL...OK, number nerds, Put your abacus and slide rules aside. If it helps you two sleep at night. I can clean up the interiors (burrs, rust, carbon build up) of all pipes w the little dremel wire wheel and get you some more accurate numbers. I can assure you two when these came from the factory, they were a touch larger than they are now. But, these numbers are good enough for me.

Much to my relief they are virtually identical.

CL is a bit egged...a little larger than the original CB, and a little less than the CB. 1.15 inches

CIMG3215_zpsb74cab55.jpg

Original CB I took off the bike...reaching down past the beveled edge inside the interior. 1.10 inches

originalpipe_zps6e0a4cc7.jpg

the cut, muffler end of CL...1.35 inches

Thus, it is what it is...moving forward.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

;D Thanks, smaller than expected but also CL is larger to compensate for tighter bend
Gots to keep the gas velocity up 8)

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Had to make another cut and move things forward about 3/4 inch for better clearance of the jugs and dipstick.

Ground things down to fit. I beveled the cuts at 45 degrees, and left the inner most pipes to butt flat against one another.

Got things lined up and tacked it together. so now she is pretty darn solid.

Clears dipstick nicely.

Clears top of case.

Odd angle, but looking straight down frame tube nearest carbs (brake switch visible below)

Since this pipe was cut shorter by the previous owner I will have to add a bit of length, yet.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Hey guys, can anyone tell me if I need to grind the chrome off before welding?

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

You don't need to but welds will be a little cleaner.
Beveling the ends should be enough

Real nice work on the pipes.

thanks bubba! They really dont look factory. But then thats not really what "homespun" is all about is it? Its nice when things turn out that way. But to achieve what I feel is an acceptable result. This has been easier than I thought it was gonna be. so far.
I just hope the rearsets arent to much of a pita.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Got up at 4 this morning. accidentally cracked my tack welds, So, had to re-tack and then got the muffler adapters/kickers lined up and tack welded them on. I have decided to drop em off w my welder/buddy Gary. His tacks dont crack.

76 CB360, Quick and Dirty, Custom exhaust & rear sets.

Nothing amazing to add, just thought Id make a quick update about whats going on here.
Ive decided for times sake, I would just take the easier road for now. Got less than 5 weeks til the Barber festival.

So, just gonna do what I got to do to get things functional. Then, later this winter gonna take things apart and move the rearsets out (closer to stock peg width), to provide a little more clearance tween the pipes and my LEGS, Hoping to drop em down/ bring em forward a touch.
My folding Tarozzi rearsets arrived, stuck them into the passenger peg holes. quick and dirty. So, I was able to get measurements on linkage. Got that ordered this morning. Along w pipe wrap, and heat sleeves for the fuel lines.

Got the pipes welded up and mocked. made and welded a hanger/bracket to the frame to support the mufflers. Ill get a better pic after I clean up my poor welding job a bit. I mustve given my old shocks away...so cant replicate Bradjs spring het shield idea. BUMMER.

I have been hunting someone who offers a brake pivot for this type setup, I contacted Kris at Old school speed.com and provided him w a pic of the setup he made for 3dognate, he wrote back asking if it was for a 350 or 360? I wrote, its a 360. He never wrote back. LOL. So, I guess I got my answer.

I am hunting the brake pivot w the lever thingy, like Nates...pictured here.

So, having the best bro-in-law ever. I paid rental on his sweet little plasma cutter (a six of michelob) . Dude, told me I was the last one to use it..(.last summer), and just keep it til he calls me for it back.

CIMG3244_zpsef334281.jpg

So I am gonna use the brake switch lever thing. sandwich and weld a lever to it. Should get me by.

experimental aluminum heat shields. Planning to simply use hose clamps over the pipe wrap...nice and SCABBY!
