That little thing really is super cool. I just need to sit down one day and cut a ton of different things. because w a little practice, a guy could easily produce some neat stuff, w amazing results. The only problem is, its easy enough to use, that a guy only gets a few seconds of practice at a time, cutting the parts he needs. then its back on the shelf.

The best part is, it only weighs like 27 pounds, about the size of two shoeboxes. Half the size of my little wire welder. Its 110 volt, And it has a built in air compressor, so you dont even have to mess with that. The thickest stuff I have cut w it so far may be 3/16 steel. Like butter. Its the total package.

My brother in law got a great deal on this one. It was on sale at our farm store grand opening, (rural king) and his son worked there so he got the employee discount on top of the sale price. Even though he really didnt NEED it and rarely uses it, Couldnt pass it up.

Fancy tools... bah!

:)

I've got a friend with a CNC Plasma table... My CNC mill should be running in a few weeks when I finish converting the spindle to it's new DC Drive. I'm going to leverage both in my 650 Bobber build... I can't say much.

I like where you are going with the heat shield, be sure that it stands off the pipe and wrap a bit, aluminum is such a good heat conductor, you might just be bringing the hotness out onto your leg otherwise.

I was afraid that might be the case. just using the cutter on the aluminum. It got so hot it was burning me through my insulated leather gloves. :p Its all just an experiment. ;D

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Bronze or stainless steel are your best bet for heat shields when it comes to regularly available metals.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

I've got a few Harley heat shields, I'll dig them out and send pics

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Thanks guys,

Getting this thing down to Barber this year is a no go. Both cash and plans have changed. So, Im not feeling that pressure anymore. However, I am wanting to ride this thing! And the weather has really cooled down to a nice temperature.

Moving forward. The linkages arrived yesterday. And things are looking pretty good. They are now functional.
I am going to work on em more over the winter. Moving them out an inch, down 1-2 and forward 1-2 inches. Will make them even more comfy.
So, this weekend planning to temp wrap the hot area of the pipes w a chiunk of heavy leather I have down in the basement. Knock the ball end of the side stand off.
And get her fired up for a test ride.

Forgot to take a pic, but the kickstarter clears the brake pedal really nice and the folding peg also makes it nice.

Also, I spoke w my buddy Stuart, he can make a new brake pivot for me.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Looking real good trek. Does the side stand clear everything as well?

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

You should probably re-fit the bottom engine bolt before you forget (is that what you wanted spacers for?)
I use aluminium ones

thanks bud, AND
No, not at the angle I want to be comfy. Currently, My toe will hit it when I want to up shift. Im gonna have to cut about an inch or so off the end of the side stand.
However, I will plan to remove the stand, beef up the frame w a peice of tubing cut in half lengthwise, (same as stock configuration) and reweld stand on about 4 or so inches forward. This winter.

Lol actually thats quite funny. Everytime I see the thing laying there on the floor, I remind myself "Dont forget to put that back in" So you know Im gonna forget it...for sure!!!

No, I have a length of 3/8 threaded rod I am planning to replace that bolt with. Its just a touch smaller in diameter.
The spacers I was thinking would be to move the sets "out" some, but I am still in the process of sitting and staring at them. Till a working solution pops into my head.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

What I WANT to do is....
I have a crappy frozen old front drum hub. I want to cut the cast aluminum Cable stay thing and the pivot lever from that and weld the cable stay to the rear hub. along w the lever arm (made for a cable attachment already). Make and weld the second cable stay on the frame and attach cable to the rear set arm.

So I can get rid of the stock brake linkage in its entirety. Ill try to photoshop or draw a pic or something detailing my idea. soon. So, you guys can rip it to shreds...lol

What!?!?! Do you mean your bike isn't going to make it, or you aren't going to make it. The former is bad, the latter is worse.

yes, my sis in law is flying in from seattle THAT weekend. This is the one I really really like. AND my daughter is a Senior this year. So, the plan is a new Honda for me passing my Honda Fit to her. A trip to Germany, Austria & Switzerland. Visiting my bro in California, Senior pics, Homecoming, Prom, University next fall.
I should probably drill, tap and install a grease zerk on my debit card.

However, we really need to start dropping hints to Amanda bout the up and coming Rust Rev Spring Thaw 2.0.1.4 I will not be missing THAT!

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

OK here is the photoshop of my rear brake cable idea...This is only experimental rough idea.

Stock setup...

cablerearidea4_zps87cd1599.jpg

use lever and cut cable stay from old front hub...

cablerearidea2_zps899bfbd5.jpg

Use front lever and weld the stay on the rear hub.

cablerearidea_zps19952c19.jpg

Then add a cable stay ( similar to hand control) on frame above rearset FOOT lever, and attach cable on rear set "FOOT" lever, (near the toe pedal itself. So when the lever is pressed it pulls cable to actuate brake drum. Then it would remain fully adjustable. same as front brake.
Also attaching the brake light switch to the rearset lever.

Very poor job here...Obviously the loop would be bigger and smoother.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Hell, the more I look at it the more I wonder if the entire Front hub would fit the REAR. Giving me dual action brakes on rear.
Then simply add a STAY to the complete front hub for the rear stay to bolt to.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Front drum is about an inch bigger than rear

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Bolt and bushing is in there.
I cut about an 1" off kickstand (maybe weld a small pad on it to increase surface area for parking in grass and such). Because, I removed the old muffler bracket w stop. I was forced to remove the center stand. But it can be reinstalled easily when needed. Temporarily wrapped the pipes w a couple layers of thick leather. Heat shield sleeves for fuel lines should arrive Monday.

Nothing is ground ,sand blasted, painted or wrapped.
Everything is adjusted and torqued.

Ready for the test run!!! Funny thing our weather. Its was 99 degrees on Thursday...Now its 49 degrees...Brrrrr.

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

the CL360 Center Stand has a built in Stop....That's what I used on my 360.... The CB Frame has the corresponding stop point for the CL centerstand...

I'll look for some pics...

Re: 76 CB360, Custom exhaust, Making room for rear sets.

Thanks Myd.

Well, I will be looking into increasing rear brake torque. I copied the setup most guys seem to be using. I wasnt expecting perfection, however in my opinion...Much to my disappointment its all but useless.
And relocating the sets. Its not terribly uncomfortable. But it could certainly be improved.
also, I need to adjust both levers up a bit.
