A few words.

OK I feel guilty now. I'm pretty much a lurker on the site but I gotta say I pick up something new everyday I am here. I'm new to bikes so I don't feel I have a lot to contribute in that sense. I have asked some brainless questions in the heat of the moment and I'm sorry. Guys here have been nothing but helpful in response, so in an effort to atone and participate, anyone with any woodworking questions give me a shout! I love the site and the attitude I have encountered.

WOW! I spend a few days doing a resto/mod on our motorcycle/utility trailer and miss a total introspective type style bonfire thingy.

If you guys are worried about the content of the site getting "watered down". Just make it a point to personaly keep adding quality content.
Fads/trends come and go, but if you keep doing what your doing, you will still be here when the crowd moves on to something else. And we will still be here with you. 8)

Winter sucks! It makes us all think too much.
Plus I heard they are taking the rattely thingy out of Guiness Draught bottles.....is nothing sacred? ::)

Funny you should write that. I've been marching to that drummer for a long time A friend was over today and was looking my Norton over. He asked how long I had my Norton. I told him we were heading for 44 years together. He gave me that sort of funny look like how could you stick with something for so long? If you love what you're doing why change to something you mightn't like? I can only hope this place doesn't veer to far from its current path.

They did take the thingy out of the Guinness bottles!! I noticed it on new years eve!! I finished the first one of a 12 and I always rattle it to announce the fact that I just enjoyed one of the greatest beers ever and to my shock and dismay NO RATTLE!! I immediately jumped up from my buddies kitchen table and ran to his computer to look it up on the Guinness web site and sure as shit they did, I didn't have a defective 12 pack! But they still put in the cans according to Sir Arthur.

The rattly things in the cans are called "widgets". In the bottles they were called "rocket widgets".

I know, but I thought "thingy" was funny

Yup, I drank my last bottle, with a "rocket widget" ::) ;) on new years eve. The end of an era. :'(
Maybe it's time to put Guiness on tap in the garage. ;D

Some women think 'thingies' are funny too....I try not to date those women......

A little rewind back a few pages to Makr's post...
Dude, I'm sorry you feel like that, but the subtext tells the tale in detail.
I hate to point to post count, as I stated previously....anyone can crap out a huge post count...look at Rokan (just kidding little brother!) but you seem resentful that you're not wildly embraced yet it doesn't look like you're very active and to top it off you seem a bit peckish when you do. I myself have responded to a few of your posts with enthusiasm and support and yet unless I've missed it, YOU don't even acknowledge. If you don't wanna play that's cool, but don't expect to receive without giving. If you choose to no longer post your work, fine and dandy...but that's YOUR decision, that bit of silliness did not come from anyone here. It's all you. To quote Hoofhearted; "You do it all to yourself"

(I'm just pinging on various input here, forgive the jumping about if you would.....)

A stickied "Tutorial" on searching protocols might be a really good thing to add. My own 'GoogleFu' is fairly weak...I don't know the tricks to manipulate, though I'm probably guilty of not researching the subject enough to be honest I wouldn't know where to start. If there are ways one can make the 'in house' search function here more effective perhaps that's something that could be added as well. Typically, search functions are (for me at least) not all that useful, but perhaps they'd get more use with some pointers to better usage.

The main points that have been touched upon over and over in this thread and elsewhere here are that acceptance and encouragement are what sets this place apart from the vast majority of other groups online or otherwise. I say 'otherwise' because this has spawned several physical meetings, people have come from many many miles to meet and cement friendships that were begun via the keyboard and thus DTT can no loner be considered simply a forum based grouping of like minded individuals.

Ya shur' do talk perdy... With that perdy mouth of yers...

ha ha ha.

Seriously, I agree with you wholehartedly. You get what you give here, and thats the way it should be. No one sets out to be a jerk, unless they want told where to go.

Hmmm...

Thank you for taking time to contact Guinness. Your feedback is important to us.

We are sorry that you were disappointed by your recent Guinness experience. While we have removed the widget from the Guinness Draught In A Bottle, the liquid has remained exactly the same and continues to come from St. James' Gate Brewery in Dublin.

Guinness Draught In A Bottle has always been meant to be enjoyed directly from the bottle. We've adjusted the gas mixture so that the nitrogen gas is activated every time you tilt the bottle to drink, providing the signature creamy head each time you take a sip. Guinness Draught In A Bottle is still nitrogenated.

If you prefer to pour a Guinness into a glass, we recommend Guinness Draught in a Can, which still has a widget since Guinness Draught in a Can is meant to be poured from the can and enjoyed from a glass. It is our recommendation for consumers who enjoy drinking from the glass at home, as it delivers an outstanding 'from the glass' experience.

If you prefer to continue to pour from the bottles, pouring faster and from a vertical angle will give you a much better head than pouring slowly.
We're very passionate about our beer and do everything we can to deliver a Great Guinness Experience whether it's straight from the bottle or poured into a glass. We hope this information answers your question and ensures your next experience with Guinness will meet yours and ours high standards.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any further questions. We would be happy to offer a refund for this purchase and look forward to speaking with you directly if you would provide us with your phone number. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Amanda D.

Telling me you would punch me in the face if you met me is "supportive"? I left after that because I felt my sense of humor was not going to go over very well here. I am a machinist, I have most of the sensitivity beat out me over the years, and sometimes I come off crass, nature of the beast. I am not expecting any sort of embracing.

Even though I hadn't been on this site for months I got word from a friend that posts here that one of Leons friends was stuck with a broken case on his cb750 he had ridden from Toronto (irc) out on the salt flats. Over a phone call with complete strangers, I bought a $100 chain, and drove 250 miles to get it to them, so he and his buddy could get home.

I may need to remind you that not more than a month ago I dug my stock XS swing arm out to get you measurements you needed. Probably not many on this site with the parts or tools to do it. Was happy too and would be again.

I am sorry if I didn't respond to your posts.

I have started three threads here with hardly any response. I am not butthurt about it, but at some point I am not going to keep working at something there is not much interest in. I will contribute the way I can, like your thread where I can be helpful. Maybe my tastes are different enough that it doesn't work here. I still enjoy the site.

I don't post whore everyone's threads with "good job", but I think I have given.

@ 4eyes....I just want to say I love you...you know its not a homo thing...rather shear respect! Having met you personally, you never stop making me think.....and that is a good thing....even though your first comment to me in person made me think I must have offended you....but that's just a rocker mentality, and you fuckin get it!!!!! and you may be the only one that knows what I am talking about with the first comment!!! :D !

YOU SIR ROCK!

Did any body else find this sentence as funny as I did?

I just came upon this thread. Wow. Kiley you really brought up some great points. Don't be discouraged though.

I have met a great bunch of guys through this site. And Brandon even added a nook for us Raleigh DTT crew and we have been getting together ever since last summer at least once a month. Met and rode with with many members from here.

I really feel that for the most part, At least those I exchange words with, have so far been very helpful, and have shown me and tought me a lot thru the past year and half or so. Tim has helped me out not just by posting his work process on his XS650 on his build thread, but by answering questions reagarding my build on a personal level. JRK is always enouraging me to keep at it, as a lot of the guys that browse thru my build(s) (even though slow due to life circumstances) I can mention many names of those I trully regard but I'm a fraid a would miss a few.
When I come on here, I feel like family for the most part, but i don't go around calling everyone brother when I don't even know the person face to face. For me it takes time to go to that level. Nevertheless I apreciate and regard many of you. Including you Kiley. I still remember when you offered me those mikunis for crazy cheap.
Don't be down because things are changing. Post like these are needed to remind us that not all are here for just a quick I need help shout out and disapear. Even though I myself have felt that there is a lot of negativity going on and I find myself filtering what I reply too, I realize that it is up to me to reach out, as well as to allow others to reach in.

I personally can't wait for this years Barber's meet and the meet at Troy's place. I feel like I missed out on a lot last year. Hopefully I will get to meet many more of you. To see how people like you open the doors to anyone and reach out to help, is what keeps me coming, Aside from the bikes and the build threads.

Eddie
