Re: Airhead Cafe Racer - 81 BMW R65 - Halloween Time!
So. The ongoing saga that is my paint continues. This is mostly me venting, but feel free to read up.
If you'll remember, they had my tank back in January.. they promised it would be finished by the end of the month. I ended up getting it back sometime around mid May. The orange didn't match the frame (as it was supposed to). I called the guy and he was like, yeah we can redo that. I weighed my options. Ride with the tank not perfect... or send it to them and not ride for another 5 months. Well.. it didn't take long before the paint started bubbling. I called the guy back and he was like, "Yeah, well we were going to redo it anyway, right? Cause the paint didn't match?" I told him, yeah. So I drop the tank off and the new painter (they fired the one that messed it up the first time) looked at the work in disgust. He couldn't believe the other guy did this. He assured me it will be done right, and will look amazing. Knowing the whole story of before, he told me, "We should be done within a week, but I'm going to say two because I don't want to lie to you like the other guy did." I thought, two weeks is perfect, I'll have time to clean up the bike and mark it done. Then I'll haul it down to Barber and we'll have a grand old time.
Every time I've talked to them, they've told me, "Oh we found another hole... I have to go pick it up from the radiator shop here in a bit". Last week the guy told me it was primed and ready to go, and that they'd be shooting this week. I said, "Man you're cutting it close...I leave Thursday!" His response... "I'm trying to get it out for you.." Monday came around and I asked about it, he said it was at the radiator shop!!! I said, "I thought you said it was already primed.." - "No man.. I said it was at the radiator shop..." At this point I unloaded on the guy. He told me, "I'm going to go pick it up right now, and my painter will be coming in early tomorrow and we'll get it done."
Today, I sent the shop manager a text message asking what's the story... No response. I waited an hour. Tried to call him. No answer. I called the shop. No answer. I got in my car and drove 22 miles to their shop. He was sanding a door. Shop phone clipped on his pants.. Mobile phone in arms reach... He looked up and saw me and said, "Hey man, how's it going..." I told him I came by to see progress on the tank. His response... "Oh yeah I probably need to go get that here in a minute..." I lost my shit. I was like "PROBABLY?!!? I LEAVE TOMORROW ASSHOLE!" I then brought up the fact that I just drove across town to ask about something after messaging and calling with no response. He was like.. uhh yeah.. i was at lunch... I told him I messaged him nearly two hours ago... and asked if he really wanted to stand there and lie about it. He explained that it's the radiator shops fault. That they had to take it back because it still had a hole. I asked him why they are just now finding this out, since they've had the thing for a month. They knew there was a hole.
He stood there and told me that he's doing everything he can. I got very close to him. And said a lot of mean things in his face. His painter walked by and I was like, "Yo... dude... what's the deal... how long will it take you... if you have the tank in your hands right now..." - "Uhh.. probably Tuesday...." I told him I really appreciated him dicking me and asked for the radiator shop's number.
Suddenly the guy was like.. uhh.. I was about to go over there... I told him no.. I'm going to talk to them....
So I finally found the number. Had to talk to 3 people before I had someone that could understand / speak english... They explained that it was ready to be picked up... I asked how long they'd had it... total.... "Three days..?" So what have they been doing for the last 4 weeks? They boned me once... offered to fix it for free and boned me again.... Thanks a lot.
