Cafe' CB200 - Silver Bullet - Up And Running... Now For Mods

Re: Cafe' CB200 Begins - Silver Bullet - Engine Rebuild

looks F'N fantastic! i am not a big fan of crazy painted motors... the motor should add to the look not be the point your eye is dawn to when you look at a bike IMO... it is different when that motor is a 1200cc or putting out some serious power... but in our cases i think a clean motor is better than a fancy painted one... man your motor looks great! i wish i was pulling mine apart but i am doing alright just cleaning it up and painting it... really dig your set up on that motor it looks great!
man that chicks ride is SICK... alot you can do with the 250 virago and rebel motors! ALOT !

For the rear I went with a 110-90-18, it fits great... I did have to remove the chain guard but I was doing that anyways. One of the tabs for the chain guard should also be shaven off (havn't done this yet) but it doesn't hit, just comes close. AND I had to move the rear drum brace (not sure of the proper term), but its the arm that keeps the rear drum from spinning in circles. Didn't have to cut it or anything just moved it to another hole in the frame, allowing it to clear the tire. I'll take some photos later if I remember. For the front... I ordered a 100-90-18, I'm hoping it works. I plan on chopping the front fender anyways so I guess we'll see here shortly. It's due in on Friday I believe.

Cool, let me know. I was planning on using the chain guard but no fenders. Wanted to do a 90/90 18 on front and 100/90 18 on rear.

Re: Cafe' CB200 Begins - Silver Bullet - Engine Rebuild

Thanks guys for all the comments, it's what keeps me motivated. Just an FYI on the paint job. I found the best way to rid of the paint on the fins (if your doing the black w/ silver fins) is to actually use a razor first, then go back with some sand paper. The razor is much quicker and you can get into tighter areas with it. You can also pick up those little foam sanding blocks at most auto stores, they are much easier to work with unless you already have a good hand sander.

Re: Cafe' CB200 Begins - Silver Bullet - Engine Rebuild

Loving the attention to detail on this one, the engine has come up looking schmick-o! Looking very good overall, will be looking forward to how she goes when you give it the maiden voyage. Speaking of which, what're your plans for the seat and tail-end?

Re: Cafe' CB200 Begins - Silver Bullet - Engine Rebuild

Im really strung up on what to do about the seat/fender situation. I would like to try and make it interchangeable with the stock seat and a cafe seat. Not really sure how to accomplish that but I've been eyeing up the Vintage Cosmo seats. AND... I know I'll get mixed opinions on this but I've been thinking about keeping the rear fender. Ive seen some that look good. IDK yet, I'll explore that option when it comes. It may just look weird with the stock seat and no rear fender?!

Re: Cafe' CB200 Begins - Silver Bullet - Engine Rebuild

ok... the way i see it is you want the rear seat for the girl right? first off are you going to do rear sets? if so you will have to make sep mounting tabs/ points for passanger pegs... getting a set up like the old choppers of the 70's used to use for frame mount pegs for a passanger may be your best bet...
something like this:
7992-harley.jpg

then all you would have to do is mold your seat around the stock hinge and lock for the stock seat... make it so your cafe seat will bolt to your frame or you can un bolt that, slide back in the set pins and cotter pins in the hindge on the stock seat and it will lock down... for the rear fender man just cut a small one that mounts to the frame rails on wing nuts and lock washers... would take 5 min to do a full swap to passanger from cafe... your other option would be to make a end seat cap with the cafe bump... make it button to the bottom of the stock seat... that way you can have the seat bump on or just unsnap it for the passanger... i like the 1st one better it would be like 2 tottaly diff bikes... and it is pretty dang easy to do if you can make a cafe seat you can do it... i feel ya man it is nice to have that eye trophy on the back of the bike once in a while... my girl asked me where her seat was on my current build... I just laughed and pointed at her BIKES!

OR.... you can get another stock seat and use the stock seat pan/ hindge setup to maeke your seat... the you just swap that out... would be even easier... i have a mint condition honda CB350 seat... i was going to stick it on ebay... not sure what your stock seat looks ike... but if this will fit it is yours for $50 + shipping... i would give it to you but it is in MINT and i have it in my "to pay for next build pile" for ebay...

Re: Cafe' CB200 Begins - Silver Bullet - Engine Rebuild

You guys know me all to well already. The girl is the exact reason I didn't want to throw out the passenger seat option. I've been thinking around the same methods... either make a custom rail to fit under the cafe seat that has hinges in the same locations as the stock seat, or use another seat pan and mount it to that.

I really really appreciate the offer on your seat, but I'm not quite ready for that part of the project yet. If you still have it when I get there (and have the funds) then I will def hit you up!

As far as rear sets, I think I may hold out on this bike. Maybe if I get another bike as my daily rider, I'll turn the CB200 into my full out "cafe" bike, but until then....

On another note, my CL175 exhaust is kind of in the way as far as a passenger goes. If she did ever ride with me she would have to wear some thick jeans and wrap some tin foil around her left leg, haha.

Re: Cafe' CB200 Begins - Silver Bullet - Engine Rebuild

;) your bike is coming along great. i have the same project also and trying to get all my pics in order to post.. nice work.

The stock rear fender and tail light are hideous. Some of the best CBs I've seen have the rear fender shortened to the point where it only sticks out 3-4 inches from the end of the stock seat.

Nice job on the engine, and thanks for the razor tip, I was planning on doing that in a few weeks. Your color choices and proportions for black & silver look nice; I'm guessing a CB noob would assume that was factory.

Heh, I'm going to be doing the same thing. My first bike is a cb350 that I'm going cafe 'n solo seat but I need a bike that can also hold the girlie... I'm going to get a 78 cb750 for riding two up. Plus, my 350 is a little wimpy for a pair of fat kids.

saweeet, another person from jax!

i use to live in riverside, i currently reside in arlington / southside are (off ft.caroline). the o'reilly's is the one off beach blvd in the T-Rex shopping strip. there are three or four employees up at that one who ride motorcycles, everything from sport bikes to bobbers etc. the one guy (Danny) is prob going to help me with the tune on my bike once i get it running.

Re: Finally The CB200 Begins - Silver Bullet

Nice bike!

Your rear tire is going to rub the fender like a motherfucker though

Re: Cafe' CB200 - Silver Bullet - Putting It Back Together

what makes ya say that? i've already ridden the bike with the rear tire on it (around 50 miles) before i tore down the motor. it suprisingly has a good amount of clearence up and under. shoot i only weight maybe 135lbs, 140lbs wet, haha. im more concerned about my front tire.

Re: Cafe' CB200 - Silver Bullet - Putting It Back Together

even if it does get close all you have to do is get a beefy(r) pair of shocks... easy fix

Re: Cafe' CB200 - Silver Bullet - Putting It Back Together
