You'll need a long flat punch - go through the headstock and punch out the bearing race on the opposite side.
If it's a tapered bearing race, and you can't get it out, run a bead of weld over the face of the race. This will shrink the race and it will fall out.

More charcoal painting and new digs! I am now working on the bike in a kennards safe storage shed... bit small but certainly enough light and power to get it done.
I'm starting to think that I might paint the whole frame and kickstand and all in the same paint as the wheels and hubs and all. What do you guys think? I am still thinking powdercoating is the best way to go for the frame but I am enjoying the finish I get with this high temp paint and it also means the project won't get held up if PC stalls.
Any tips for applying the hi temp to the frame? My concerns are mainly getting all the old junk off it in the nooks and crannys.
Hi temp paint ideally needs to be baked to cure, but you can heat up the frame before paint with a heat gun.......and run the heat gun over it again when you've finished spraying.

Painting frames is a BITCH. I recommend painting it in two stages, from the inside-out. Find a convenient way to hang it, ie from the top rungs of a ladder or paracord through the steering stem/turn signal mounting holes, etc. You don't need to get it down to bare metal, the stock paintjob is baked on hard. Removing it would increase the chance of corrosion if/when you chip the high temp paint (acrylic enamel right?). Scuff, degrease (very important), clean, prime and paint over it.
Rotating the frame and spraying from different perspectives helps too, it sucks having the paint dry to find out the next day there's a bare spot. Good lighting helps too
Consider the brand you'll be using because you'll be holding the can at awkward angles that will cause runs. Overspray is unavoidable, so it's best to paint inside out, ending with a final spray over the frame members not covered by bodywork. paint in light coats. Tape/crumble aluminum foil in the threaded holes (aluminum foil is malleable and MUCH easier to use).

I did speak to White Knight and they said that baking the paint only accelerates the cure process. Apparently the paint will get to full hardness equivalent from baking in one months time from being applied.
However I would love to bake it tho... It just seems to make me feel all warm and fuzzy knowing it has been baked...
Anyone think Kennards will mind if I turn my storage shed into a baking room? LOL

Check out the this thread. Somewhere in that juggernaut you'll find all the information you need. I'm likely going to tackle painting for my first time as well, but only after having read that and looking at some of the builds those guys have put together.
As far as the charcoal paint thing, I'd never bash anyone for their choice in aesthetics. One thing that has happened to me, though, and sucks, is finding something I like and overdoing it. I like the color, and I have a feeling I'll like the bike regardless, but something to think about. I guess I'm just saying it's possible to have too much of a good thing.

Yeah i'm hearing you on overdoing a colour. And being a non typical colour (ie black) the frame can sometimes become overwhelming...
In my head my reasoning for using it on the frame was the combination of the front end triples and the headstock. I just can't see the combo of charcoal triples and fork lowers and a black headstock lookin any good. highlights will be that the tank and seat will probably be a antique white or something. Still deciding.
I find the charcoal so much more complimentry than a red frame, but thats just me. (no offence to the red frame bikes out there, or their owners )
Any ideas for a colour otherwise? Bronze? Purple?

Definitely paint it how you want, I just know that I've been in situations before where I've worked really hard on something, then finished and thought, "Well, I should have quit two hours ago, before I did that thing there."
And for what it's worth, I quite like the charcoal color. Gun metal grey will be a big part of my bike when it's done, but I plan to have lots of black and chrome on their as well.
I'm basically going for a monochromatic look. I'm a "less is more" kind of guy.

I have a fiance who only sees in shades of grey... not really, but she decorates the house and never uses colour. I love it too... things just look better in B&W.
Take a picture and then grayscale it. Better.
Sounds like we might end up with matching bikes... lol
Nah, thats what makes this fun! I think the red frame looks great on a truly vintage looking bike though. what about a ducati green frame? you know that medium matallic green? with antique white or even pearl white body work?

Probably spoke a bit out of turn with my previous statement... seen so many attempts at red frames and raised an eyebrow or two at a couple of the results...
But alas, I diverge. So more paint has gone on and am prepping myself, more than anything, for the almighty frame paint...

OH THE HORROR...
I spoke with White Knight paints yesterday to just confirm the baking process for the paint I'm using, and to my disgust the technical support tells me that I am using the wrong paint for the application... Basically it is designed to harden when it is heated from the INSIDE. So no real baking process just turn your barbeque on and it will cure it...
SO ALL MY PAINTING WAS A WASTE OF TIME! GAHHHHHH
I've been and visited a powdercoater and have started sorting out getting that ball rolling. Speaking to the PC fellow and he was a bit worried about the paint on the swingarm and that it had grease all over it, so he got a rag with thinners on it and then proceeded to wipe the paint straight off... yes thats right my paint was seriously just wiping off.
Now all my parts will be getting a healthy coat of powder.
On a positive note I did get a refund on 4 empty cans of paint. It was funny, the girl was like 'we can't refund you, the cans are empty.' I was like 'what do you want me to do put the paint back in?' hahaha
