Hot damn that looks good. If I remember correctly there was about 7 pounds of bondo on that tank, wasn't there?

Sure was Rich. Got all of that out and got by with a good skim coat in the end. Mike gained a half gallon of fuel now! Here's one more shot. Wet sanded in succession with 1500, 2000, 3000, then buffed with 4000 grit compound on the random orbital. Doesn't even have wax yet! Now that is some fluid paint.

I really dig that wooden tank mount. It's a little clunky looking but nails that authentic Appalachian feel your going for on the Daniel Boone build.

Haha....that comes from the chapter in the "Kanticoy's how to build a bike" novella titled "Curing body filler when your toes are cold"

Kiley, I've already said it elsewhere, but this thing turned out amazing. Much better than I expected when we were discussing it at Barber last year. The colors look awesome and you did a great job fitting the design idea onto this oddly curved tank. I am going to have to do some more work on Nixon to get her to live up to this thing.

Hopefully I can get the seat done before barber and she will look like a nearly finished bike. They are never really finished right?

Keep it up man, its looking great! NO more leaks coming soon! Get it running great so you can burn that extra half gallon of fuel!

Wow, that's purdy Mike!

What kind of paint did you use Kiley?

CC

Turned out good, eh? It's Dupont Nason base and PPG Ultra clear Chris. Good stuff.

The tank arrived safely and slid right onto the bike. It looks fantastic. My pics don't show how vibrant this blue can be. I included Kiley's instagrammed pic to show what it really looks like.

I wish the back sat down a little lower so the tank was more level, but I don't really care.

I need to put some spacers under the front rubber things and make a rubber mount and clamp for the back. Then I get to mount the seat.

It really is brighter than this

NIce! White stitching for the seat? Silver?

You going with any special pattern on the seat?

Oh nice, that will look great. And it looks more comfy than that pad you had on it before haha!

Got the cap gasket installed and the front mounts adjusted. Also got about halfway through making a rear mount. However, I ran into a problem. The petcock I bought doesn't fit. BALLS!

I thought it was an 18mm bung on the tank, but I can't get it on.

So, I have a question. How do you measure what size it is? I put my calipers on the bung and measured 20mm (see below). Is that where you measure?

That's how you measure it.. Just make sure the pitch is right. I'm sure you can Google that tank make/model and petcock and get some answers too.

Yep, correct way to measure and buy a cheap thread pitch gauge to make sure you've got that right.
