GS450 "Sport" - Done!

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

Man I love me a GS450. It's coming along great.

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

Thanks Indie! Good to have you back around a little bit btw.

Nothing has really happened here because of the holidays. I did get some 2K Clear on the wheels......but my crappy cell phone camera wouldn't be able to spot the differences anyway!

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

Ok, in my limited time with the season, I got the exhaust sandblasted and the rear wheel parts painted (with a new sprocket mounted up):

Because I was bored, I slapped the gold wheels on and set the stock red tins on for an idea of how it looked so far:

Tonight is my night to work on some more stuff.....so hopefully some progress!

You done yet?

Almost....waiting on my tires that appear to be lost in the mail...... :)

Thanks Pete!

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

Haha. Its funny you mention that Rich. I happen to have a couple spares that should fit the bill. Brand new! All yours.

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

Pipes look good Rich, Are you going to heat cure them before installing some how? If not a couple short run / cool cycles would be a good idea I think...

... and now for my morning A.D.D. Hyjack...
Von... WTF IS THAT?

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

Thanks Hoosier! No heat curing before installation. They will be sitting for a while before installation though, and they will probably get a couple "bench test" warm-ups before they even see the street. Worse comes to worse, they get repainted again.

I actually still need to paint the crossover pipe though.......

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

Thanks Pete!

Busy day today ......all about timing actually. It's my last day off, and I have wheel weights coming in today - which I need to balance the front wheel before I get the tires mounted. Once the tires / wheels are mounted, I can get the exhaust mounted...... And tonight is my last night off, so I'll be up all night working in the garage.

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

Got to get the clock changed around to be ready for work, no better way than to work on the bikes. Enjoy, post pics of the progress when you got some.

Cheers

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

Thanks Mike - it's great having 1 night a week that I get to do whatever I want (within reason). I just have to make sure I don't need any supplies for anything - not much open here at 2am......

Well, looks like mounting the tires is a bust. The wheel weights aren't here yet, so maybe next week. Or maybe I'll try the "heavy duty zip tie" mounting method...... Either way - progress will be made tonight.

I can vouch for the zip-tie method. Did the front on the cruiser (150/80-16) and it just about fell over the lip

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

That's good news hillsy! The wheel weights came in recently, so the wheel is balanced now. I'm going to try the zip ties tonight.

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

I don't know if it was the 100/90 Shinko, or maybe the wrong zip ties, or what. But I got the front tire mounted last night the old fashioned way (the rear is waiting for the shop to do it):

With the front wheel mounted, I was able to move the tie downs in the rear of the bike and install the exhaust (new gaskets, fresh paint all around, etc). I didn't take a picture, but the exhaust's crossover tube is painted black unlike the headers. Mounted the handle bars as well, and just sat the tank & seat for the pictures sake. Looking more and more like an actual motorcycle......:

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

She's definitely gettin' there now Rich! Looking very nice actually...

Re: GS450 "Sport" - painted wheels....

Lookiing super nice so far Rich! The more I see that color on the wheels the more I wanna use it for another project.
