Also: what tail IS that?!

That Tail my friend is off some old school race bike, the tank was also off the same bike. The tank is from a gs450, but I never saw the motorcycle. I bought it at a swap meet and asked the guy to contact the old racer, but he said the number was just some old registration number....... pretty cool though

So,
I threw caution to the wind..... kind of, and snagged some Velocity stacks with screens off of Dime City. The screens will help a lot in comparison to just straight air without any filtration. Saturday is going to be a big day for working, so stay tuned....

I have pods I bought for my 550 and I am scared after what I've heard about them from folks, especially for the TK's..Interested to see how your stacks go. I think they look hella better on a bike.

Heck yeah! Stoked for you man, those look sick! I bought a wideband o2 tuner so I can dial in my KZ, I won't really be able to fire the bike up and do the tests until it gets a tad warmer. I'm interested in how those work for you and what you come up with for jetting.

Thanks a lot man. Yeah, the KZ forum seems to be a great source of knowledge on jetting and such. Yeah, in Miami its always warm, but hopefully in about a month this puppy will be running. These stacks were cool because they had a screen, so I was a lot less apprehensive.

I'd say that was a smart buy with the screen. At least the big crud will stay out.

Couple Photos... more coming

So, here are more pictures. Went ahead and got the tank mounted up and finished with the tail and coil mounts. Started on the wiring. Going to do away with the stock wiring and strip it down to as little as possible. The frame will get painted next time, and then it will be re-assembly........ exciting

must be buddies, the nerd and the geek :) you guys should start a poindexters biker club or something!

Ooh onto the FUN part eh? ;)

Wiring can be the most rewarding thing in the end though. Keep at it, I can't wait to see this thing finished up!

it looks like you've got the glass tube style fuse box there. may i suggest upgrading to atm blade style fuses? i just did it on my bike last week because glass tubes are unreliable and can fail internally due to vibration and such. i got this kit for super cheap, and it's super easy to install.

Looks about what mine looked like, are you starting from scratch? It's nice when finished to have negligible voltage loss across all connections and ditch some of the dead end wiring. This is what I used for my kz650 (has crossreference for each product and shows that the kz550 works with some of the stuff) might be able to use for your bike http://www.cwswiring.com/Shop.html he has the upgraded battery cables, led flasher unit, and fuse box. He specializes in our bikes and does wiring harness from scratch also but a little pricey at $240.
