My first project. 1969 cb350

Excellent color.

So why do you need different engine mounts? Or did yours not come with any? Which mounts do you need?

Thank you!

The engine mounts didn't come with the bike, it was all taken apart when I got it. Being the noob that I am, I thought it would just take a couple bolts. We ordered some but they were too big. They were definitely for another bike but not listed as such haha.

The engine mounts as such:

Two bolts for the back.
One bolt on bottom left with spacer.
One bolt on bottom right.
One bolt through cam-cover to a bracket with two bolts through the frame.

So I'm guessing the bolt lengths or diameters were wrong?

I feel like I should mention that putting the bolts and the spacer through the bottom are a bastard and a half. Often, you've gotta wedge something soft between the left frame lower and the engine and pry them apart for the spacer to fit.

Oh, and what is that tank from? Never seen it on a CB350.

Yeah it's the bracket that was too big. We got all the other bolts in. I have no idea about the tank.. It looks like a 350 tank from what I've seen online but it was a basket case bike and I'm not an expert.

Nah, it certainly is bigger than a 350 tank since it has the recessed rear tab.

Looks like it came from a CB450 ;)

I suggest a spray 2k clear coat if you haven't already done that to give a good shine and protect from gas. How is the inside of the tank? My last tank i sealed and did a pretty nice paint job only to fill it with gas and have it seep through some micro pores and eat the paint from underneath!!!. Bummer.

The 2k clear is good stuff - if you use it, use a respirator and cover your skin, it'll kill ya.

+1 on the 2k clear and what Rich said. Nice job on the tank and 2k clear will keep it looking that good even after gas spills etc.

Looking good! Mmm, nice green, I'll be going with a similar color for my tank, seat, and fairing accents on my moto.

Alright, I need some help! I put in new sprockets and chain. I took apart my clutch mechanism and cleaned it out, then put everything back together. No matter how we adjust it, the clutch isn't engaging. We can only get it into neutral, but not into any gear. The lever and the mechanism appear to be functioning just fine. We are thinking the clutch plates are stuck together? The bike has been sitting for 15+ years so it makes sense. Does anyone have some ideas? maybe something else is wrong we aren't seeing?

I've been keeping myself busy with smaller projects on bike. Headers are in but we need to make something to mount the mufflers. I finished fully mounting the engine, repainted my gauges, put on new grips.

Once we can figure out this clutch situation it's time to take on the timing and get my brakes taken care of. Travis and I have been spending a lot of time researching how to set the points but we can't find anything very clear. If you guys have any advice, great websites, or threads I'm not able to find I would really appreciate it!

Here's how she is sitting now:

Sometimes the 350 clutch adjustment can be done incorrectly. Have a look at this write-up, it steps through it and should confirm whether you have it done correctly. http://www.hondatwins.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=74348#p74348

Also, sometimes its hard to shift through the gears with the bike just sitting there not running. Try moving the bike a bit while going up or down a gear. Or if its on the centerstand, get someone to spin the rear wheel.

And make sure the ball bearing hasn't been misplaced.

+1 on this. When I was working on my CL350, the first time I removed the sprocket/clutch cover that dam little ball rolled out unbeknownst to me. I had the same problem as you upon reassembly but thankfully found the bearing, reinstalled it, and all was well.

Well. The fact that I had no idea what ball bearing you were talking about, means I probably have my solution.

#21, yeah?

The cover and mechanism were in a box when I bought the bike, so I'm sure it's long gone. I think I have some extra bearings in the garage. I'll go dig around and see what I can do. THANK YOU!!
