my ghetto ass winter redo 72' CL450

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

Chris i completely agree... i have my BA in Exercise science and sports medicine with a focal concentration in physical thearapy (specializing in shoulder and hand rehab)
as i told him in the PM i sent... i can not diagnose it without seeing it... i just can sugest some exercises that he can do to help increase his range of motion... you are 100000% on when he needs to see a specialist 1 on 1. I woudl not just toss out advice on something like that... hell i am not even in that field, got my Masters in busn mngt and now i work in education ha ha ha ha still a gym rat though!

Just thought I throw this out there. First, the guys above are correct. So for what its worth, R.I.C.E Rest is very important. Ice a couple of times a day. Ibprofen or advil will help with swelling and pain. (use common since with all this. After all this is advise on a bike forum ;).But I considered staying at a holiday inn express last night. ;D Just don't f' it up any more.
Done, forgot, Don't ask anymore ;) Troy

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

what are you going to do... i think that you are going to be pretty close with the stock set up on the jet maybe 1 down

the wide band is telling me its way lean, but it starts right up and ive riden it this way, so i was gonna go one up and see where the WB is then. I hope this WB isnt fooling with me its spot on with cars.

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

for some reason the wide band isnt working for me, so im doing the ol spark plug/ride test, 135 was what was in the carbs, i went to 140 and it ran good, 145 was too much fuel (fire on high Rpms) im starting to think the 135 is the way it should stay. Ive read that these carbs were designed to change with altitude and only need jetting if alot of mods have been done. I rode her today and man did i miss her, she rips! and its loud but not too bad (its mostly behind me). i was however thinking of installing slip in baffles for some back pressure, like these
ff44_1.JPG

i only want to do this if i gain performance, not to quiet her.

what do you guys think?

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

then you need a lolly pop not a baffle... do a google on tuneable baffles or lollypops... basicly you can use a fat paddle nut that you drill out or weld a fender washer to the top of a bolt, that will give you the pressure you want and not take away from the sound. was really big in the 70's with drag pipes

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

Personally, I'm going to roll some drilled stainess sheet (one can buy it with the holes) in a cone, and TIG it up. The pointed part of the cone will face upstream. Sound, torque and rideability should improve.

EDIT:

Like so...

That also might keep the squirrels out. It took me forever to get all of the acorns out of my exhaust. :D

Chris

I got one of these premade from Summit that I run on my autocross car and it cut the high pitched buzz (think tuned to the edge NA 4banger angry bumblebee sound) but didn't cut the actual volume, stayed at 97db@10ft but it's lower pitched. I did lose 2-3hp at the top end 8000rpm+ but the torque stayed the same and so I'll call it a qualified success....

Dunno about them in a bike though, I don't see why not..

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

that looks awesome! great idea! i would still drop a lolly pop in the middle of that sucker and you would be golden on pressure! Chris i love the shit you do!

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

replaced me clutch springs today with upgraded "race" springs (old ones slipped with 2 washers installed)
heres the old and new

CThor :
I think i forgot to thank you, THANK YOU for the ebay listing info for those shocks., i love them! Ive been riding (without a seat) here and there and they are nice.

My bodywork guy is telling me that what i make out of fiberglass is horribly uneven :'( and painting it black is going to make it even more noticeable. anyways hes doing his best to get it done and uniform. Well i was tossing ideas around on how i can make this look good and i think i got one......after its painted..im gonna put vinyl "number Plates" on both sides in white. as for now im working on a photoshop to see how it will look.

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

No problem, I had just looked at them before you posted that you needed some taller ones.

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

man you can get it strait! hell if i can anyone can! this sat i am going to sand it down again, and do a bit more... i was told on my seat to,:
The best way to get out waves is to block sand at 45s. In other words you should sand in alternating strokes in overlapping X patterns. Use a harder block for flat surfaces and soft for the curves. And sand the paint off before you try to do anything the paint, body filler, and glass all will sand at different rates and you'll never get the wave out.

and,

The only way you can get the waves out are to resand it with a sanding block or a body file to get it all flat. You can check it by pouring water over it which would look like the finish coat or clearcoat... I use a foam block for the final sand then prime it. If you see any waves in it before ya paint it they will always be there. Once ya paint it you can sand it with 800 then 1500 then buff it out with 3M Perfect II or something similar! The secret is to have the prep as smooth and defect free as you can make it before ya start painting. You could use a product like Nitrostan for the final over the primer then sand and reshoot the primer. My .02

- I did use dyna-lite bondo and it was 10x's better to work with... i also did about 5 glide coats (cheap black spray paint over the item) and sand to find low spots... but i screwed up as i used a glazing puddy and not a body filler to fill that in... so i am going to sand it back down and do it again. takes time but you can get it man!

That is something you CSM 'glass seat builders should consider: The fiberglass resin will grow and wobble in the heat. So if you paint it black, it will really show. On my se7en, everything looked really good when the fiberglass was cold, but in the hot Texas sun, imperfections became manifest.

You should just buy one of my all aluminum seats and call it a day :)
