Re: Project Cheap Racer (She has a name: The Oreo Kookie)

thx indiesol. havent got much done (pretty much nuthin). waiting on some valve shims to show up (one thing after another with this thing i swear). also was working on the tank tabs and found out the po did a very poor job at repairing two small holes on each side of the tank (read: poorly applied jb weld). the pieces just fell off and gas leaked all over my side panels (ruined the paint, son of a....). well good excuse to paint it over (pictures did it more justice than it deserved).

DAMMIT!!!

My first bike ever was a Seca 750, an 81 i think... I got it in the mid 90's, it had been ridden hard and put away wet for years, and i rode the wheels off the thing! Iwould get my buddy on the back, inevitebly need to run for smokes to the nearest town and tear ass down the road at an indicated 180!!! (I do not condone speeding or breaking any laws) Man! The plastics died on me and i had been doing some crazy rat bike :hold it together for one more season" type stuff, when a lady turned in front of me and wrote it off... It was sad... Every time i see a Seca locally for sale i get soo tempted...

If i wasn't a fat bastard now i would spend more time on the Cafe side of DTT than the Bobber side!

Great looking build!

thx axe. this is my first bike as well and as soon as i get some minor issues tied up and finish my seat its off to tear the wheels off this baby as well. actually, i'm almost tempted to just tear it all back down and do it perfect and complete. oh well, we will see

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

Well its been a while. Been dealing with some family issues and even at one point almost sold my baby. But after some wheeling and dealing (and some things that im not proud of) with the wife, I am able to keep her. Since I have to tear into her (again) to fix the valves (never trust a p.o. when they say everything is fine), I figure it was a perfect excuse to redo her up again. I did a lil sketch of what I'm going for.

Not sure if I'm going to go with the same color scheme I have now or with something different (up for suggestions). I also got a cool idea for a tail light

Its from a LED flashlight my wife had in her truck. Just gotta fab up a mount and wire up the lights. It has three super-brite LEDs so I was thinking to wire one for the running tail light and the other two for brake light.
I also have started to relocate the battery to the middle of the frame. Gotta fab up a mount for the top of the box and shorten the wires.

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

I loved the first version of this bike, but that concept drawing is BA. Glad you were able to sell your soul to keep the bike. Cant wait to see you dig back into this project.

Yeah im contemplating going back to the original color which I think would look good with the tail light. I'm looking forward to jumping back into this thing. Too bad i did have to sell my soul though, maybe I can find one on ebay....

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

Try craigslist...you can find anything on there! That sketch looks really cool, it flows really nice. I liked the first paint color better, it looked classier. Not that the second paintjob looked bad...it's actually really nice. Just feeling the other color more, I think it will fit the bike better.

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

yeah i agree. i think i will go back to the first color scheme.

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

Hey Kookie, glad you got to keep her. I have been one the verge of having to sell mine, even so far as an add for it and a guy test riding it. Then with some soul selling etc. managed to keep her. Hope I never have to do that again. Kepp up the great work. Shows what a guy can do an very little money, the pencil rendering is great, will ook sweep in the steel.

Cheers,

Maritime

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

Maritime, yeah she was close to being gone as well. had a guy coming to pick her up only to call him back and tell him nevermind i am going to keep her. luckily he was cool with that. i cant wait for some parts to show up and get working on her again

Also went down to Lowes just walking the isles looking for something to stand out to me and found this

Cool PVC braided tubing that I'm replacing the fuel line with (going to do the same with the vacuum line)
Also placed an order for this to cover my wiring

Going to give it a nice deep clean tomorrow and hopefully start on the paint and detail work. Cant wait for parts to show up!

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

Wow, this is a crazy build but I want to jump on board so I can see the next chapter! Keep it going man!

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

That tubing is for water only. Gasolene will eat it up and gum your carbs up. If you want clear fuel line, check out Dime City Cycles site or a million others.

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

Von's right. I use this stuff at work. Not made for fuel.

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

well i learned something new. thx for the heads up guys. appreciate it

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

Well its been slow going but progress is being made. I got a lot of clean up done and putting things together for mock up. I have decided that I'm going with a dark brown for the color (just sprayed it on to get a visual). Im stripping all down and redoing the paint real nice. Also plan on using some new front controls to get rid of those bulky "boxes". Im also getting rid of the front brake assembly and going to replace it with MC and brake lines from a r6. that should clean up the front end. Still gotta do the seat pan and get that wrapped up, new license/ tail light bracket and the get everything mocked up and painted. On a side note: wife was nice enough to let me move the bike inside cuz its starting to get real warm outside.

Liking the build, and watching as it unfolds,

Budget build, but no shortage of great ideas, keep the good work coming
