Re: the RaZoR - chemicals!

Black oxide kit arrived from Caswell yesterday.

The concentrate makes up 9 pints US (4.25 litres). From the MSDA it appears to be a solution of copper salts in nitric, phosphoric and selenious acids.

I can't tell what the sealant is yet but it is dissolved in what smells like mineral turpentine.

Looking forward to some experimenting!

Re: the RaZoR - chemicals!

This should be good. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Do you think there are kits to do other colors?

Re: the RaZoR - chemicals!

hmmmmm never seen that black oxide stuff till now......
just did some research......
looks the goods....

i also cant wait to see how it turns out

Re: the RaZoR - chemicals!

SeekingZero - other colours are possible on steel, mainly browns, but I don't know of any kits available. More a cook-it-yourself type situation.

sinbad85 - hope to have some results to post next week.

Re: the RaZoR - chemicals!

Alas no chambers!
The fabricator is attending a race meeting with the '73 Porsche this weekend; hopefully he will get to my chambers next week.

Re: the RaZoR - armed!

The most essential component of a road-rocket:

An arming switch!

item.JPG

... actually it's only a switch for the lights, but that didn't sound exciting enough. With the RFID ignition I needed a separate switch for the lights.

Re: the RaZoR - armed!

so it's gonna have RF-ID....Damn, If I could get my head light to work, I might think about something more fancy....

Re: the RaZoR - armed!

Are we thinking - proximity switching ie "key" in pocket close to RFID switch under seat or similar arrangement? I want a combo RFID and remote starter on my next project. If that's not possible, I'll stick with remote start and EFI :)

Re: the RaZoR - armed!

That's the general idea teazer - switching within a metre or two. Remote start might be cool, but not possible with a Banshee motor.

Re: the RaZoR - armed!

Now this is a build right up my alley, will be following closely.
Love the finish on the covers, might have to try the same method. ;D
Where did you get the RFID kit?

Re: the RaZoR - nothing to see!

Doing some preparation for trying the black oxide.

I thought the sprocket from the donor would give me some area to see what's happening.

I'm most envious of your Norton, I've never actually seen one (I don't know if any made it as far as Australia) but I'm fascinated by the rotary concept.

As far as I know a few (2-3) made the trip but I know where they ended up, could ask around if you want, they're most likely in the original Police trim just so you know.

Re: the RaZoR - glitch!

Started on cleaning up the calipers but I have a problem!

item.JPG

Checked the new seal kit against the calipers and found the seals for the larger pistons don't fit.
Perhaps it's not a FZR250 caliper as I was told. Checked around for a source of the larger seals but no luck so far. The pistons measure 33.25mm but can only find seals for 32mm and 34mm. It looks like I will have to find another set of calipers!

Re: the RaZoR - electricks!

Not a lot of progress lately, although an important part of the build arrived this week.

The blurb from the manufacturer:

Completely replaces the fuse box or circuit breakers. Up to 8 independent circuits can be digitally controlled and switched off if necessary. Automatic reset after fault clearance.
Diagnostic function with 15 indicator LEDs
Best operating safety due to switching operation with micro processor monitoring and controlling.
Flexible configuration of all functions due to easy setup
No mechanical relays. Latest solid state components switching extremly fast without voltage drop or wear
Small housing
Switching of high and low-beam with only one push button
Integrated digital hazard lights. Stays ON despite you have switched OFF the ignition.
Integrated digital, load independent flasher relay (like m-Flash). Self cancelling flashers adjustable
Flasher relay with fade-in/fade-out look! Self cancelling flashers adjustable
Position light function with your flash lights! Constant low light at all flash lights.
Integrated digital brake light modulator. Flashing mode adjustable
Integrated horn relay
Integrated anti-theft alarm
