the RaZoR - move along, nothing to see here!

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

That looks great I am impressed! Did you hydroform the pipes yourself? I hope to be making the pipies for my T500 soon.

5mm clearance isn't much in static mode, I would think that when you have weight and braking forces on the bike it could be an issue.... just a thought.

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

johnu - I don't have the skills and experience to manage such a tricky piece of work, fortunately I found someone who will part with his artistry in metal for mere money.

Clearance will be fine - that measurement is with the springs removed from the forks. If I ever get into a situation where I have the forks bottomed out on full lock, hitting the chambers will not be the worst of my problems!

Probably true!

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

Attention to detail. I'm excited to be watching, waiting for more updates. It looks amazing.

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

Sweet looking headers. That's a big assed taper there. Are we planning huge ports and compression to drive those pulses? This should be interesting and gives me all sorts of ideas.

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

Im gonna say the same thing i always say to you

man you got alotta nice stuff crazy haha i love it

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

Thanks for the interest guys!

teazer - BIG exhaust port with a pair of auxiliary ports, head inserts optimised for 98 octane.

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

Stroker, you know you can't just come in all nonchalantly saying things like that. You know we want to see the pictures. I forget, are we talking CPI Cheetah or Cub here or wildly ported RZ barrels? Head inserts are the way to go for sure.

Should be a very nice package. What is your HP target?

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

I don't have a target for HP, teazer. Because the bike is being set up for mid-range grunt I don't expect spectacular numbers. Tuned for for top-end I would expect a motor like this could make somewhere in the 90s.

Can't give you exact porting info as the motor isn't back in my hands yet, but this schematic might help feed your need for detail:

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

Just read the whole thread Crazy...awesome work! Used to ride an RD250LC. My second ever bike before I moved onto the ducatis. Can't say I was overly fond of 2 strokes generally but the power rush was pretty addictive! Great work with this!

How much clearance is there on the front wheel when NOT at full lock? Don't forget there is significant fork flex under heavy braking whereby the clearance apparent when testing in the garage may not be present under riding conditions.

Got your email btw. Will def be in touch when we get back from our holiday

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

Full lock is where there is the least clearance, elsewhere there is plenty. Remember that this measurement was taken with the fork springs removed, and therefore represents an extreme limit.

Funnily, my history is the opposite of yours - I went from a Ducati SD900 to the 350LC back in the early 80s and I have had little to do with four-strokes since (until the 'Ace').

Have you seen my other two-stroke build?

I'll be getting in to the tear-down over my (short) holiday break, when I'm not working on the fairing for the 'Ace': http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=43357.0.

See you after the holiday.

Meh, I guess that's OK ;)

Makes my crusty old crank look like whale poop.

Re: the RaZoR - the heart of the beast!

You gotta a lot of nice stuff man

Re: the RaZoR - the heart of the beast!

Thanks guys - this project is taking forever but I keep telling myself that my patience will be rewarded.

Re: the RaZoR - the heart of the beast!

Engine parts and this build thread make me happy :)

Re: the RaZoR - heads-up!

Wow! You must be a photographer as well as an engine builder :)

Re: the RaZoR - heads-up!

Torroidal heads. I always wonder how much of an improvement they are. Moving the spark kernel closer to the center of the chamber. Good. Increasing surface area to volume ratio. Not so good from a heat management perspective.

VHM have been selling torroidal inserts for 125Gp classes for years but I haven't seen and published data on head shapes.

Will be interesting to see.
