the RaZoR - move along, nothing to see here!

Re: the RaZoR - electricks!

Very interesting, educational and inspirational stuff for a bike novice.

You call the method you are going to use on the sprocket "black oxide" is there any difference to gun bluing? Gun bluing is Fe3 O4 which is also "black rust" it differs from your garden variety of red rust as the red one is Fe2 O3. I use a bluing solution on my woodwork tools that comes in a small bottle, you just wipe on, wait, boil in distilled water, scour(or rub with something hard like denim) then repeat. It looks great and if, after you blue the metal you soak oil into it for a few days then wipe the oil off and wax it will last quite some time but is not maintenance free.

Jim

EDIT...I re-read and noticed there is a sealant too which I assume is to give it more longevity

Re: the RaZoR - electricks!

oldnbroken - Caswells black oxide is similar to conventional gun bluing but modified to use chemicals that do not have to be heated to relatively high temperature.

I was hoping to have the first sample finished by now, but I've been sidetracked by another bike project.

Re: the RaZoR - Ho-hum!

I haven't been able to make phone contact with the guy fabricating the new chambers. I may have to go to his workshop but as it's a couple of hours driving distance I'm somewhat disinclined to make the trip without checking that he will be there. Without the rolling chassis, crankcases and barrels I can't get a start on the bodywork.

Ah! well ..... if these things were easy everybody would be doing it!

Re: the RaZoR - News - but no pics!

Spoke to the engineer today; he has finalised the design of the chambers and will be rolling the cones etc. soon.

He has managed to get cornering clearance while retaining the centre-stand! I'm very pleased.

Re: the RaZoR - More news - still no pics!

Went to see how the chambers were progressing yesterday. Cones have been rolled and headers hydroformed.

It's taking forever but it will be worth the wait!

Re: the RaZoR - More news - still no pics!

Interesting. Not Tony Hatton by any chance? Can't wait to see those pipes - on the bike

Re: the RaZoR - More news - still no pics!

teazer - not Tony, although I am somewhat surprised his fame had spread to the US of A!

Will post more information about the pipe-builder later - I'm running late for work.

Re: the RaZoR - More news - still no pics!

Crazy, I lived in Oz from mid seventies to early nineties when Tony was well known and respected.

Re: the RaZoR - More news - still no pics!

Tony did some work for me on a Ducati back in the 80s; he was a top rider and a very skilled tuner.

The engineer building the chambers for the RaZoR is Chris Dowde, a man of many parts when it comes to motorcycle (and car) work.

A bike magazine published here in Oz recently featured a bike with a motor built by Chris. It's not a two-stroke but it gives an idea of the extent of his skills.

The motor:

It started life as a Velocette Venom and the work done includes:

Repositioning the exhaust port to clear the down tubes, Carillo rod and a BMW barrel to increase capacity to 600cc, Nikasil bore with a Wiseco flat-top piston.
The head welded up with a bathtub combustion chamber and a shape added to the piston to give 9.5:1 compression.
A Toyota starter motor driving a gear made to fit in the back of the clutch.
A belt drive primary, Kevlar clutch plates, 41mm flat slide carb, modified Dyna ignition.

The starter motor above the gearbox:

With the primary chaincase fitted:

And the finished article in a replica Seeley frame:

A very able gentleman indeed!

Chambers are the next item to be posted!

Re: the RaZoR - Pics- but not the RaZoR!

That's a really nice Velo conversion with concentric clutch and sprocket arrangement. So many interesting details.

Re: the RaZoR - Pics- but not the RaZoR!

That's an awesome looking seeley/velocette! The left side cover is a piece of art. I have a buddy who just bought a seeley replica frame that were gunna mate to a Vincent 500 single. Its guna be a fun winter!

Lately there have been portents - perhaps a result before the new year?

One can only hope!

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

Santa isn't going to come up with the goods!

However, progress has been made and the new year isn't far away.

It's fat, but it fits (just):

Misses the centre stand mount and clears the front wheel by 5mm at full lock and full fork compression (no springs).

Re: the RaZoR - signs from the heavens?

Wooo, an update!

Those chambers look great! Well the first half of them anyway.
