Yeah. Thanks for that link Dave!

I think I'll just crawl back into my shed and never hit the internet again.

You are seriously talented mate, and if you're not doing this as a career, you need your head-read. How many custom bike builders of this caliber can there be in NZ??

cheers

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Well, heres a progress pic of Lois' exhausting tubes
Have discovered that tacking thin wall stainless is VERY trying & also that my TIG skills need refining so will have to default & get them done at local engineers shop
Next up is to make a nice holed & polished muffler hanger

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Damn, loving the steampunk bike too.

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Lois' stainless steel exhaust is now DONE!!! YAY!!! What an expensive mission that turned out to be and the TiG welding was one of the few things I have had to contract out on this build
Still a TIG set up would be nice but I wouldnt use it enough to justify the high cost
After spending most of this afternoon fitting/grinding/sanding/polishing/refitting it came out good enough ,now I can move on to the next drama

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

looking good! nice guzzi also.

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

That exhaust looks great! Have you explored the Porsche/VW headlight option any further? I'm curious how close the angle of the lens matches the fairing.

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project - now with added supercharger!

Well,Ive decided that Lois needs a bit more grunt ,so after a lot of research it seems that the next logical step would be to add a supercharger........
So,have been after a small Aisen [300cc displacement] unit off a Subaru Vivio & will add a 1.25" SU carb coupled via homebuilt manifolds & bracketry
Ive deemed that the belt drive will be off the motors flywheel/carb side as it would foul the exhaust.
But this will spin the blower backwards  so it'll also need a pair of meshing cogs above the belt.
Im aiming for a modest 5 to 8 psi boost, this project is all about excellant usable low end & mid range torque, not a screaming top end rush
Should look suitably complex & will be a challenge to fabricate
Also needed will be a suitably sized plenum ,a belt tensioner & a pop off valve to help protect the s/c from backfires
The main hurdle will be getting the jetting right

I'm disappointed Dave. I thought you'd be making one from scratch ;D

Seriously, I'm not at all surprised you've decided on something like this. Here we go again ;)

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

I have a feeling Dave will be spending a great deal of time polishing up one of those superchargers!

I have to say that this build has been my favorite build to follow for a long time and I am very excited to see it completed soon! I hope that I can see this thing in person someday.....but feel that is unlikely :(

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

amazing. There are so many great inspiring builds on this forum. Love to see new updates and ideas being implemented.

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project-now with added supercharger!

Found this pic on the interweb the other day,an XS650 belt driven cam conversion!! Im totally luvin the whole setup!! EXCELLANT inspiration, now Im REALLY fizzing at the bung

CHRISTCHURCH NEW ZEALAND ,ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE!!!!!!!! and this time people died :( What a month it has been, high drama & testing times indeed
Anyway,in a bid to cope better,Ive been doing some garage therapy :)
Heres the mock up of the blower install
Its raised several problems, including the need to reverse the pulley rotation ,gearchange lever clearance issues & the need for a jackshaft & outrigger bearings

Spent several days playing around designing & building a combined blower mount/belt tensioner mount/belt cover
Chopped up some MDF with my trusty jigsaw then bogged it up, sanded & sanded some more
After Ive primed & finished it itll be off to the local foundry to get it cast up in alloy
Then Itll be several more hours in front of the buffing machine...........
