Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Spent yesterday trying to sort out the paint scheme, decided to keep things fairly traditional so heres where Im heading thus far, of course I left these sidecovers outside &, you guessed it,it rained
Thought they looked pretty with the raindrops .....:)
The reason for the pointy bits will become apparent once I finish the tank
Today I got the tank badges made,I cast them in polyester resin then painted them satin black & wiped over with a little gold paint on a rag for that antique look

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Your work on this bike is just soooo impressive. Can I get you to divulge a little about the direction you are planning for the exausts?
Great stuff!

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Hey man, this is the first time I've seen you build and you truly are doing an amazing job. What about using an early Porsche/VW style headlight, maybe the Fluted style lense. If you search google, Porsche fluted lense something should come up. It should be 7", and it might just have the correct angle to follow your fairing as the ealry VW fenders were round, in 67 they switched to the vertically flat mounted headlights. You can even get gravel gaurds for the porsche style lenses. Just my 2cents, but I think a flush headlight would help the lines of the bike. Once again I must say Beautiful work! If you want more info I can PM you links and whatnot. I haven't been on this forum enough to know how they feel about posting links to other sites.

Hopefully on Tuesday the pipes will be ready......, Ive had the patterns I made up a while ago computer scanned & then mandrel bent in stainless steel. Theyll be 2 into 1's with a BSA "twitter" muffler.....watch this space......

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Spent the last couple days getting high!
On paint fumes that is
C.O.B. & lacquer thinners flying everywhere, smells SOOO GOOD!!
Heres the results, not too bad for this 50 year old amatuer spraypainter

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

This thread is seriously just becoming a praise fest. It's almost pathetic. However, I find myself wondering if there is anything you can't do (motorcycle related, of course)......

The paint looks great. This build gets more inspiring with every update.

Yeah there is, Im not too good on wiring, those little bits of coloured spagetti usually end up confusing the hell out of me!!

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Probably the most impressive project here?
I'm really liking the BMW frame as 'featherbed' lookalike

Awww Shucks! high praise indeed :)
If only I had a decent budget, a real featherbed frame & a Vincent motor..........

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

IM STOKED!! picked up my cast alloy rocker covers from the foundry this morning, ;D EXCELLANT!!!
The OEM covers are black plastic, not where Im headed with this old skool build at all ,its sooo good to see the finished product, after having spent many hours making a wood & bondo pattern
Next its on to drilling holes, linishing the faces flat & yet more hours in front of the polisher

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

I can't wait to see them all shiny. The level that you have taken this bike to humbles me sir.

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Splendid! I have a side project along the same lines (foundry) in the works and it's good to see yours.
Did they gripe about the wood/bondo patterns? I talked to a pattern maker a while back and mistakenly mentioned the evil word 'bondo' and received quite a sneer in response. Perhaps he just had a rough day.....

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

'scuse the language, but...HOLY HELL BEANS this is so COOL!! great to see theres still amazing homebuilt talent in the mainland :) best of luck getting this road legal, and thanks for giving me hope when i make my own mutant mix of bike parts!!

Ive found that pattern makers charge like wounded bulls & so Ive always made my own patterns using wood, fibreglass & 'hairy' bog ,(bondo with fibreglass strands in it)
Im aware of shrinkage,1 in 33, for ali & the need to have a good drought & NO undercuts
The foundry said that these covers were a pleasure to do [!!!!!], yep surprised me too
Anyhoo, heres a pic of latest progress

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Very Nice! You are on the way to one nice uniquely built one of a kind Bike. Mad skills and Vision. I like it.

Re: Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

I'm excited by this on several levels, thanks very much!
If you don't mind, what did they charge you for your pieces?

Ive found castings can be quite affordable,in this case $45 each, but remember theres a lot of finishing work involved later on
