Victoria! Zeke's CB175 Build

http://youtu.be/UCFfSI74umE Bob Brookland answers Zeke's question about wind tunnel testing....it took place way later. John had the gift of dyslexia he could see the wind move. As my wife commented too much lift and the bike rear end would lift. Bob Brookland goes into how they won Daytona....aerodynamics.

i like the sl350 frame it is full tube ,no formed sheet metal,i am pretty sure it is lighter and stiffer than the formed steel frames
that said my build i am doing now i have de-raked and stiffened the frame everywhere, forward mounted rear shocks and raised the seat rails (i am building an "adv twin" with 8" rear 8" front suspension discs front and back as well as elec tric start)
even that sl175 honda frame has erxtra tubes welded in notice the added tubes swinger starting at swinger pivot

Everything I've been told is the SL frames are heavier than the pressed tin ones. Of course, that's before the pressed tin get welded up and strengthened. I guess they would be pretty much the same after all the welding?

i really dont know pj,. honda was making the kick only much lighter than the early ko which was just a dressded up cb,i assumed the new frame was also a lighter deal ,i think the magazines even touted it had a lighter frame, but that could have just been pr from honda

The AHRMA guys in Portland kill for the SL K0 frames for their 350s. Must be something special about them?

Not the SL350K0
Its pressed and tube with cb geometry, a hoop and extra bracing under the motor and a welded in rear guard
The Sl175 and later Sl350's are all tube

This is Steve Browns sl350 we saw at the Handbuilt Show

I bought some parts from a guy while on vacation and he was just finishing a restomod on a sl350 and he told me that he already had interested parties for more than $4K. Frame is apparently stronger, I heard lighter and have light weight wider headers. Also the headers used to rust out so a good set are particularly valuable.

yep single wall header pipes and slipon mufflersthat are designed perfectly to trap water inside and they are quite vunerable to damage and being is how the sl350 handles about like a gold wing with 2 flat tires ,when in the dirt well there aint many good sets left, i had a perfect set untill i had to "lay her down" :)

Are you sure the SL was single walled all the CB/CL's are double walled for the first half of the headers

The K0's didnt have that double brace at the front

yessir and with just black paint ,they are very light too
although the ko i have never had a set of those pipes in my hands
ko had its own dual mufflers with heat guards and slighty different overall shape than the k1-on but i am pretty sure the headers on all sl are same

I saw a whole bike for less than $1000 earlier this year but I already have a full garage and shed. Also it was sold same day it went up.

Who can have too many parts ;D
What forks/ trees are you thinking for the t500 drum
scored another Cl175 for 40 bucks! That is a good question! We will see what presents itself. Race tech makes cartridge emulators for the 350 forks I think and since we have done that conversion on Victoria we may see. I will post pix of the inside of the hub tomorrow!
