+1 - nice sheet skills/equipment

Thanks!

Still in a learning process, but hopefully someone else see what a beginner can do with a small amount of equipment and on a small budget, and also try.
But also a lot of .... well, when things don't end up as expected, wich happens evry now and then :)

Like first attempt to weld with a stick in 1 mm thin metall, or the first gastank ... hmmm it's not pretty :)
or realising it's to cold and wet so everything is covered with rust ...

That's a first, I've never seen anyone make his own headlight shell.

Well, someone has to be first :)
Actually it started as I run out of material, had just a few small pieces left ... and really keen on doing "something", and ended up doing this lamp as I also had the glas and reflector since some swap. It is really not perfect round, but good enough to use I hope.

From the start I had in mind to have some shape of the front of the lamp, but as I cut it in the wrong side (there is a top, left and right side with a bit different shape) I ended just cut it straight and mayby thats still is best ...

Well, I think I'm pretty much up to date in this review of my first bike build :)
Next step is to have gastank done, welded, sealed and ready for paint and also deside how the new backend will look and build it.
On top of my wishlist is an English Wheel, saved some money for it and hope to find one soone. Not to many to find here in sweden, but shipping from USA was like 1000 usd!! So have to find one nearer or in sweden

And a few pics...
Same bike with four different gastank setups...

As looking on my own pictures I realise I have to try out a few other looks on the backend...
Hope find some time to spend at the garage tonigt

Wow! This inspires me to get to work on the stuff I want to make out of sheet metal. For someone who 'doesn't know what they're doing' you dove right in and made some cool looking stuff. Well done!

Nice work man way to take the bull by the horns ! Im a FJ owner and a XS owner so let me just grab me some popcorn and captain morgans and ill just sit over here and watch if you dont mind ;D

Pat, if you can make stuff like this I would think you could make your own English Wheel!

Tnx a lot!

Well, go ahead!! It's really fun, you can beat the hell out of a piece of metal end up having something usefull, as a gastank :)

Hi
Well, that thought has come to my mind and I found some DIY , but free time always seems to be consumed by the bike instead.
BUT, I have bought some bearings with a radius and some ordinairy with flat surface... so who knows... but IF build one, it will probably be a small one...
But now you inspired me ... hmmm

You don't need anything big for bike parts! Have you ever been checked out metalshapingzone online? He has a preview video on there that may change your mind about the need for and English Wheel.

Hi Johnu
You don't have a link, all I find (after a quick search) is how to do things with NO english wheel...

Here you go http://www.metalshapingzone.com there was a link on the website to a preview of his dvd but I can't see it now. It is on youtube somewhere also.

OK, I'll look for it.
Just back from garage's ... had to clean out old one today, then try to figure were to put the stuff in my new one
Stood for a while watching the tank but couldn't start doing anything, so took some time with the backend instead..
Think I know what to try ...

Hi there!

Seen your bike @ sporthoj.com, and might I say, the new tank looks beefy as hell! :D

Alltid trevligt att se Svenskar bygga cafe-hojar ;)

Do you hang there as well?
Yes! But I must say this site is a goldmine when comes to cafestyle (and probably much more, but I havn't had time to hang around that much yet).
Vi ses !

After a couple of quick visits in garaget I have ended up where I started with just an undertail for the backend. My cuts ended up looking like a swedish meatball :)
So After welding the 3 parts together and put in on bike ... yesterday I took it of and cut everything of again.
A pitty as the finish and the way the 3 pieces fitted together, was probably best I hev done so far .....
Here's some pics on my meatball ... today I will start all over again :)

Got some work done today..
Started over from an empty undertail again :)
Always easy to do the first, second one harder to look the same...
This time I didn't weld it until the second one was ready

Well, a long day is to end :)
And a new backend is on the bike, still need some more work before finnsihed, but the shape is atleast ready. Will cut it and make it fit with a seat ... I might need to move a bit backwards.
