YANX 600 Yamaha XJ(FJ) 600 Goes Cafe

Tnx man!
I really apreciate all feedback!

Did second layer on frame yesterday, still missed a spot :( and also did the swingarm. And it looks pretty good, so Im happy with the resault, so far.

Started to put on some bondo on the gastank as well, see if can find some time tonight to keep working on the gastank.
My kid was also in garage and made me do some lazerswords... he's really into StarWars for the moment :)

Awesome! My kids are going nuts for Star Wars too. We had a very Star Wars Christmas this year.

:)
Same here, all he wanted was different kinds of star wars lego-ships and clothes and laser-swords

Some busy days and the frame is now painted!
4 layers, 2 of epoxi and 2 topcoat. Aimed at "creamwhite" but thougt it was to bright and white so I mixed it with some gray and it looked really good wet anyway, hope for a nice resault tomorrow.

WOW! your build is coming along wonderfully. This is most inspiring. Your metalwork is beautiful. I cannot wait to see the final product.

Thanks!
I hope it will look as I want, will go to the garage soon and put the frame inside the warmer part of garage.
Tnx again man!

Well, the colour came out just as wanted it! BUT, I missed a big spot, outside front frame... well, how to do now??
I wount be able to mix exact same colout again... looking in the can I mixed the colour... hmmm, there is a little left, not dryed... but as it's hardener mixed in it... well. I will give it a try!
Setup everything again, mixe with more thinner... paint...
A few "skin pieces" from dryed paint came, but on the big, it went great! Just hope it will harden OK... never tested this before, resault will come in a few days (like today, as I didi this yesterday early morning)

I don't know whats more bad ass, The white paint and fab work, or the dedication it is going to take to keep it clean and presentable? Following along. The work is awsome!

Tnx man!
Well, I probably don't have a clue what it takes to keep it clean, never the less, if you had your mind setup to have it in a specific way.... well, than you have.

Thanks Spindat!
I will try to keep up the speed, but now I will have a few days of with family!

So, some time since last update... seems to lost my energy somewhere, and have a hard time to make it to garage... but a few things has happend anyway :)

Both forks are now polished and came out pretty good, atleast good enough for this build.
Also the tank start looking as I hoped for... promise... I hate bondo and I hate dust from it...
but, slowly slowly I came closer to the paintjob...

Also started out to create another seat/tail section... most because I needed to get rid of some frustration... than hammering sheet metal must be the shit, you will never need to see a psyciatrist or need any pink pills :)
Second reason is that I'm not totaly happy with the other... OK, I think the shape and finnish of it came out pretty well, but the whole construction went to compilcated, but not at all sure I will use the new on yet...

Pat,
Amazing work. I am so jealous of everyones polishing skills. If I can get a brushed look L'll be happy. If i can get half the shine you all are getting i'll be doing the happy dance.

For whats its worth I like the origional set you fabbed. I think it flows with the tank work better. The one now pales in comparison. Although I am sure you far from finished that is just my 2 cents and this time.

Can't wait to see this one done. It is gonna be a stunner!

GK

Glad I found this build....Gonna be doing more hammering and experimenting and fucking up from now on!

Thanks Pat

Tnx alot!
Well, the new seay/tail is just started, something to build upon. I will cut a big hol in the backend so I can slip the cover over the batteri. But the shape will be .... well, don't know yet :) But probably pretty much as the 2 other I have done, just not such a complicated construction. So I hope that the function of it will be like theese "caferacer-seat" you buy on ebay, but the looks of it will be my own design :)
Well, polishing isn't a very pleasent job, but as soon as you have used 200-400-800 paper, wich can take some time... and then polishing will take not more then like 15 minutes... but this is how I did it.. and the resault is NOT perfect, but good enough for me :)

Ofcourse you shall!! It's a struggle every now and then... but it is sheep and a quite "forgiving" material to work with. You can get quite far with pretty inexpensive tools... and get really good resaults with some tools, like a shrinker and a sheep plannishing hammer.
On my wishlist is an English Wheel to really make smooth curves and also is quite... the hammer is noisy, if you share garage :)

I would say that it's only the gastank that takes some really good work... as you want it to keep the gas inside, and not dripping on hot exhaustsystem :) But all other parts... you just need some fantasay and .....

So, atlast got some paint on the gastank, will need some more work before, but anyway, now I can see where I have do some more work.
Also swingarm had a second layer... ready for topcoat :)

Tnx!
Hope to spend a lot of time in the garage today and get the tank and tail ready for final paint. Will be (will try to blend) the same color as the frame. It's a mixture of offwhte and grey. Then I will have some kind of stripes in a darker grey... hope that will be nice
