I had the same problem shifting when I redid my KZ440. I had the shift lever at too high of an angle. Try rotating the foot shift lever counter-clockwise 1 spline. After I did this, it allowed me to shift up farther and this fixed the problem with shifting into 2nd. Sounds too simple, but...

I love the bike and also have a 440. Did you make any Carb changes for the pods and open exhaust? I am struggling with that now.
Great post here. I feel the same as all of you and it is reflected in the time I spend on this site. Just wish I could get together with everyone on the site in a shop big enough for all of us and hang.

I have switched the connections up to the points wires, but have done anything inside the points cover besides clean......are you saying actually remove the terminals in the points assembly and switch them there?
