    81' GN400 Build Cafe/Brat

My honest advice is to not even screw with the VM series carburetors and stay with the stock CV. I tried EVERY jet possible and with the VM36 my bike would still run too rich. If you are dead set on using a VM I'd say use the VM34.

    81' GN400 Build Cafe/Brat

I fixed it! Always something so simple lol. This whole entire time I have been scratching my head, thinking, "WHY is it running rich when it has a pod filter and open exhaust!?" and I was sitting there today and I was like, oh...because it's only running with the choke on, making the plug...

    81' GN400 Build Cafe/Brat

Well I just bought a 17" Emgo Reverse Cone muffler and a Sigma 6 jet kit, as well as a parts carburetor from cierrecart that has a good diaphragm in it. Maybe I can get this thing running better.

    81' GN400 Build Cafe/Brat

Well I rode it for the first time! I'm using a TM36 Mikuni carburetor though and it's having a rich running issue. It'll bog down badly at WOT. But it was still a blast to ride!

    GN400 Carburetor..Desperately Need Help!

See this is why I'm so confused. If it were lean, why would it be shooting flames out the exhaust? Wouldn't that be unburnt fuel igniting in the pipe and flaming out the back? Also, the plug is black..but it isnt a new plug so I might be getting a skewed reading. It also gets very hot very fast...

    GN400 Carburetor..Desperately Need Help!

The model of the carburetor is a BS36SS CV Carb. Hi guys, I'm building a GN400 and I'm desperately trying to figure out the jetting/problems I'm having with my carburetor. I tried running a VM36 but I could never get it to not be rich (went all the way down to a 15 pilot and still smokes...

Back at it....this time with an 81 Suzuki GN400.

With your stock 132.5 did your bike pop and backfire like crazy when revving it? That's what mine is doing right now with a pod filter and open exhaust. I'm thinking I need a bigger main jet, or to put a washer or two under the needle. EDIT: I just tried a 142 main and it is still backfiring...

Mikuni VM36 w/ brand new throttle assembly, jets, uni filter

Selling my VM36. I've been trying to get it to work on my GN400 but I just can't get the jetting right. At the moment it has a 15 pilot and a 220 main in it, a 2.0 slide, and a 6F15 needle / P6 needle jet. I just recently cleaned it thoroughly, and it comes with some extra jets too - a 17.5...

Back at it....this time with an 81 Suzuki GN400.

So I've been trying and trying to get a VM36 working on my GN400 and I'm all the way down to a 15 pilot and it's still too rich. I gave up haha. With your stock carburetor, and a pod filter/open exhaust, what jetting are you using? My stock carburetor jetting is causing my bike to shoot flames...

VM36 on GN400, need some help

Yeah I guess that's what I'm going to have to do. I tried to find a starting point by looking at what jetting people are using for SR400's since there isn't much info for GN400's with the VM36, but I guess jetting for the SR is completely different.

VM36 on GN400, need some help

Forgot to mention when it had the 50 pilot jet in it, it would MIST up the whole garage with fuel smoke. With the 27.5 it still smokes but not as bad - black smoke out the exhaust and a little smoke everywhere else lol. Maybe I need a 15 pilot or something?

VM36 on GN400, need some help

Alright so I'm running a VM36 on my GN400 and the damn is running super super rich. Like black smoke coming out of the tailpipe, smelling terrible, super hard to start, etc. When I took out the jets it had a 50 pilot and a 360 main - which is ridiculous. I dialed it down to a 27.5 pilot and...

    81' GN400 Build Cafe/Brat

Well, I'm not the best with wiring diagrams but if I'm following it correctly, the the "pink" (red) wire coming from my magneto goes to my lighting switch, which is odd, because there is no connector to go to it. And the white/blue and red wires are supposedly my rectifier which is impossible...

    81' GN400 Build Cafe/Brat

Well the bike is all back together for good this time...And it runs with the VM36 on it A familiar sight of everything tossed around the garage lol All cables and everything back on. Carburetor, brakes, etc. Did some work on the tank and primered it. I think I might keep it this color...

Back at it....this time with an 81 Suzuki GN400.

Hey, on your GN, there should be 2 plugs coming from your magneto and a couple wires...and then there's a random red or pink wire with a female connector on it, where does it plug in on your bike?

    VM36 Throttle Cable?

I got the clip you guys were talking about. Pulled it outta a VM36 at work. Anyone know of a good slanted (so it clears frame) universal cable?

    VM36 Throttle Cable?

no, and there are no threads in the top cap.

    VM36 Throttle Cable?

I'm using this cable. https://www.denniskirk.com/universal-throttle-cable-w-adjuster-110049.p19269.prd It actually seems that the issue is that the cable falls into the top cap since it has no nut/bolt on it.
