1970 Honda CB350 Cafe - My first bike and build.

Guys, something seems strange to me about the clutch cable, where it attaches to the left crankcase cover. It has 3 nuts on a bolt. The bottom large nut, a locking nut (i believe) and a smaller nut above that, maybe the adjuster nut.

My question is, does the cable not bolt to the cover? The inside, I can see the bolt but the shape does not allow a bolt on the other side. I can't imagine that the cable just sits inside the hole on the cover and is merely held in place by the tension on the clutch cable?

Mine is the exact same way and I can actually pull it up and out of the cover. I couldn't say for sure that that is how it's supposed to be but mine works fine that way.

While waiting on some new parts to arrive, I've decided to put the engine into the frame.. I have injured my back, exhausted my strength and faught with the frame and motor for over 2 hours alone trying to get it mounted.

It's still not in the frame.

I am beyond pissed right now. All my fresh paint on the frame and engine have scratches everywhere. I tried putting it in from the right side and from the left to no avail.

Does anyone have a video or some pictures to help me on my third attempt?

First get some pipe insulation from home depot and tape it to the frame tubing to keep it from scratching more. Its really cheap to get this stuff. You will have to have the foot controls off the bike to do it. Place motor from the right into the frame with bottom of engine first. If you don't have a rolling chassis. I read somewhere you can lay the motor on the ground and put the frame over the motor into place. Sounds alot easier. Let me know how that works. Good luck. Yeah it is a real B*%ch getting it back into place.

Like axe suggested, wrap the frame first. Also, I find it easier with the starting motor out. Wasn't sure if you did this or not so I thought I'd mention it. Also, it has to go in from the right side as the frame tube on this side is lower than the left.

Remove the exhaust studs as well. Makes it a lot easier not having to worry about those and gives you an extra few inches to move the engine front to back.

Take two of the stud nuts, put them both on the same stud and tighten them against each other. Hold the outer nut in place while turning the inner nut to the left. This should loosen the stud and you'll be able to unscrew it. Reverse the procedure when reinstalling.

Thanks fellas, appreciate the tips and advice. Sure wish I asked before my attempt. Frame is pretty scratched up now. As is the back of the engine. Ill have alot of retouching to do once its in place.

Thanks again. I'll need to let my back heal up before attempt #3.

Just saw your build for the first time. Nice work so far. Everything is looking great.

You a traditional guy? I started shooting long bows two years ago and I freakin love it!

Thanks Robot,

Yeah, I shoot traditional as well as compound. Love it. Theres something very satisfying about hitting a bullseye with a long bow.

Just read this thread from the beginning. Great job so far!!! Looking forward to the next update (with eye candy)...

I'm looking for a CB350 of my own to do a build with (time, money, and space permitting). And permission from SWMBO.
