1976 Suzuki GT750 Smoker

1976 Suzuki GT750 Smoker in Cycle World photo

So my November 2013 issue of Cycle World arrived and to my surprise I found myself, my son and my father all in the CW Rolling Concourse cover story photo leaving the Pagoda at Indy for the rolling portion of the show. Three generations of Suzuki riders from my family represented in this pic... Grandfather, son, grandson.

The Indy Pagoda in the early morning light with the sun coming up is a sight to behold! Bad Ass Kaw H1 at bottom of page.

Well Rick let's give credit where credit is due! Thanks for the coverage at Indy MotoGP. A lot of my friends must read Super Bike Planet cause I had several alert me that the photo was there. Love ALL the two wheel coverage on soup by the way.

Hi nice bike i must say.. my question is with reference to the mikuni 34mm flat slide carbs you fitted how did you go about setting the oil pump calibration/carb settings, as i want to fit this style of carb myself but want to keep the oe oil pump regards gary

Gazza,

Oil pump settings should be stock. Oil is injected straight into the inlet ports and into the main bearings.

Jetting is a whole other issue though. :)

Hello Gaza,

Teazer is correct, the stock pump runs off of the fourth throttle cable from the linkage as normal. One cable operates each carb as stock so everything remains essentially the same.

Great-looking GT!

This build is being featured in the BikeBuilds.net directory here: seviston's '76 GT750

We're currently displaying only a reduced-size photo (similar to what you'd find in Google Images). We'd like to ask for your permission to publish the original full-size image with your build listing.

If anyone would like to have a build of their own listed, just send me a message with a link to the build thread and we'll take care of the rest.

Interesting idea Ken! Bad Buffalo is happy to represent 1976 GT750 builds... Thanks for the ad on BikeBuilds.net.

Out for a fall ride the other day. Not much has changed with Bad Buffalo this year. However, modifications are in the works for the next evolution. Top secret for now though.

Bad Buffalo likes his corn to stay bulked up.

I have a couple of drag race top ends that would perk that bad boy up significantly. I can just see it with a set of sidewinder pipes, 40mm downdraft carbs and enough horses to twist the frame.

That is supposed to goad you into spilling the beans and telling us all you secret plans.. :)

Or were you thinking more along the lines of carbon fiber wheels, RAM magnesium single sided swinger and a neat top half race fairing with electronic digital clocks and digital ignition perhaps.

"Tags" for the bad buffalo at Bike Builds says "Inline four" what am I missing?

50gary,

I did not put the tags on the page Ken did (the admin for the page) and apparently he does not realize it is a triple smoker or it was an error. No Not putting a 4 stroke in the bike, lol!

Teazer, if there was anyone I should take up on an offer like that it would be you! I am sure your magic could make it scream & with your special touch. However, nothing that radical is in the plans... only a make over on the aesthetics is what I have in mind for it's final evolution with planned upgrades to running gear & clocks. Digital ignition though, hmmm?

This motor has proven to be very durable, very streetable and powerful enough so far so that I just want to ride the piss out of it.

Roger that, I didn't think you put the tag on OR, try to do a four banger, that was Teazer's wonderment. I chuckled that it went unnoticed by Ken. I love your GT and I have one in the storage garage, I also found an RE5 tank for Cheap $35. it needs to be lined but it's solid. I've been wondering if I could mount the motor in a modern chassis? Lighter weight and modern handling and brakes etc.

10/30/14: So I got the Bad Buffalo out for a run today. I made a short video walk around of the bike running & riding. I also Ripped through a few turns with the Jemco pipes whaling and six pot Tokicos doing their job (remaining mindful of motorists, hidden driveways and pedestrians of course).

Thanks Gary. I am not sure you need the modern frame unless you really want to just do something trick and maybe overcomplicated. There is a guy over on the Sundial site that has one he is building, not sure if it has been completed yet. Anyway it can be done of course.

The main objective of the Bad Buffalo GT was to be a resto/mod while retaining a few period correct ques. Watch my newly posted video above to get an idea how the bike performs with the modern suspension, wheels and brakes. It is a very entertaining ride.

I'm impressed, the 'Busa front end does a lot I'm sure! A few years back I did a CX500 conversion (before the CX craze hit) with an '07 GSXR 750 front end but with the period Comstars wheels that I made up. and an R1 disc brake conversion in the rear. I used the same shocks you have on the GT750 only revalved and sprung for the CX.
Cheers, 50gary
