while i am waiting to move the bike to my friends shop were i can finally start to tare her down i decided to introduce myself to the extra set of carbs.
OK looks like this post is getting some attention so I'll let you know where I am at. Still in the beginning stages. I am currently finishing up a killer jeep build with about 2 weeks of work left on it. After that bike is the #1 priority. I have been looking into parts a lot!!! And making local contacts if i need to outsource work. Also making a plan so I know what to do and in what order. This Saturday I will be getting the shop ready for the bike and blasting out the jeep for rhino lining followed by binge drinking It is almost bike build time and I am very excited! gonna start ordering some parts now so they are here and ready. A side note on myself I just finished my 4 year enlistment in the military, and I am waiting for school to start in Jan. So I do have free time to devote to this build. I hope this bike comes out as good as some of yours! Later dudes.
got the bars and sick love the clubmans for now might try clip ons later but i love they way these are feeling right now! also got the gasket set and ready to do some work. i also insulated and put up a moisture barrier and drywalled the garage i will be working in. just need some damn rearsets off a bike. well later dudes more beers to drink! ;D
ok so after reading for about 3 hours on jetting i think i have a good size to start with. 105 main jets will be taking the place of the old 90 jets. the air stacks and 4 into one are gonna lean this thing out so i'll start here. if anyone else is running a 1978 550k with pd46c carbs and 4 into 1 and stacks let me know what luck you have had with your set up. later!
ok well a little set back. i have started the bike a couple times. ran ruff at first but wrote it off due to bad gas (the idiot who sold it put in some bad gas, real bad). good gas went in and ran it 2 more times and she was ruff but started. so as it is the bike runs but only with the choke pulled when it goes in it dies. so this bike is lean and i need to fix that. just an update.later
to do:
-fix lean condition
-check all electrical
-move bike to shop for rebuild
blasted the hell out of the carbs with carb cleaner. now the bike actually idles with the choke in. also swapped out the spark plugs. old ones were black as night. i have some popping with one of the cylinders i suspect on of the carbs is still a little dirty i'll blast it out tomorrow. i shot a short vid and i'll try and post it of the bike finally getting to idle with the choke in.
here it is and then she dies. really need to clean those carbs.

You will want to take both jets (main and secondary)up buy 10 as you already got the idea. that's a good starting point and if needed go up or down buy 1/2 jets 105.5 for example. New plugs are a must to tune it right. I did a 76 cb550 with pods and 4 into 1 kirker exhaust and wound up using 110 main and 95 2ndary. Good luck.
::update::
well the jeep is on the back burner but not finished.waiting on parts.
the (shed/about to shop) is almost done. a project to do the project lol.
re framed it, moisture barrier,insulated, put up dry wall and on the 2nd coat of finishing. then paint and install wrap around work bench. hook up breaker box and conduit. should be good by this weekend. then i'll hopefully move the bike over.
::the bike::
found and ordered.
-45 push in slow jets (if needed)
-stainless brake cable
-4 carb rebuild kits
-new cluch, and brake levers
also got in a oil pan the old one was cracked and was welded. looked like a good job but rather get rid of it or keep it as a extra i guess.
ok, all the parts are almost in i figure about 2 weeks they will all be here. then it will be all on me to do the build. just the way i wanted it.
the only thing i don't have is rear sets. i am going to make these and when i am done i will put them up here in detail so you can all check them out. as far as more pics of the bike. i will run electric tomorrow and paint and by this weekend if all goes according to plan the bike will be over there and i should be working on it everyday on out till it is done or if i don't feel like it or waiting on paint, powder, or unexpected part buys. i will try to post each step of process of the build. if someone wants more detail of a specific area of the build say something or forever hold your peace :-X . the bike i am going to model it after is this one. later guys!
i slowly walk in the room and sit by the computer. the shed looks sweet but had to wait 2 to 3 days for each layer of mud to dry then sand it and paint it. :-\ i am taking a break this friday and saturday. just need to finish up electrical and hang the cabnets :-\ and will finally them start the on the bike.
this neat little 16x14 shed needed a ceiling with storage above and much more. it is now painted. no new pics. has electrical now and heat and a a ventilation system for exhaust gases in the bottom corner so i can run the bike in side when it is 0 deg Fahrenheit outside.

seat is from roc city cafe! http://www.roccitycafe.com/store.php
shipping was real quick, and not even worried about this thing cracking it is solid as hell.
also it was cheaper for me to buy it then afford the cost of all the materials. not to mention the hours making a mold. i think the price was 94 bucks.
hahha I love costumes like this. I mean its a pretty good looking knight costume, but then for no reasons theres a huge fake cock to send it over the top.
