Re: 1978 cb550k rebuild

a little more done. i might do the wheels today.so much sanding...

Re: 1978 cb550k rebuild

no new pics. front wheel prep is about done.
-about to start rear wheel.
-spokes and center hub will be blacked out with the rim staying chromed. the nipples will be brass.
-also working on cleaning and painting hand controls.
-put a shorter braided s.s. brake line on.
-cable lengths stock look fine. they fit good with the bars, minus a small loop behind head light. it does not effect movement.
*happy Easter*

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe *overtime*

Re: 1978 cb550k rebuild

ok, to all fellow dtt members sorry have not been on in a while but it got way to cool up here in the north.lol. three layers of clothes and a heater don't cut it in the colder months. so i put the bike on hold. i have not got to enjoy the bitterness of buffalo in 4 years.

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe almost rolling

put some of her together...parts come in wednesday!!!

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe almost rolling

ok, I have a life lesson here. always order extra seals... especially the cheap ones. i.e. shifter seal, about $2.99. i ordered one and the damn thing fell apart when seating it. now i have to wait aprrox 5-7 days for ups to get it here again. i will be ordering extras. so shitty.

other than that cleaned the hell out of the carbs. parts/carb cleaner wash. a paint brush with half the bristles cut worked great for the hard to reach areas!

carbs cleaned n will be taking a ultra sonic bath tomm before being rejeted, and old jets replaced, gastets ecc.

almost forgot the before pick, lol you can see i picked the carb back out quick from the bucket.

to all who don't know. these parts dips will eat anything not metal up so beware. this brand i believe is chem-dip from autozone worded great, and didn't harm the carbs.

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe almost rolling

did some more work. i have the bike fever.

here is the main jet it is a screw in type i believe the 77 &78 model carbs use these.

new jets...new 42 slow jet
waiting on the mains to get here

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe almost rolling

fixing and hooking up wiring while waiting on various parts.

* note when you fixing wiring make sure to stagger your splices so you don't get build up in one area.

I've been in Auto and Industrial repair for 25 years and you would not believe the "Pro's" that never grasp that concept! ::)
KeEp up the good work.
