1983 Suzuki GR650 XD Cafe Build

here it is with one full can of primer on it. it came out better than i thought it would! just need to sand lightly in a few places give it one more coat and it will be ready for the "light green" i already have the rear end done and primed that is gonna be matte black with light green grenades vinyled on it; same with the gas tank and light. Its gonna look great all painted, and im gonna put a matte clear coat over it all. it was about 35 degress out side so i had to set up my portable heater so the paint would dry right. u can see it in the back round in the 2nd picture... its cold in the chi and i cant wait to go to Arizona in late January, im leaving my car here and only taking this bike, im just worried about the wiring cus the motor only has 724 miles and i bought new everything for it possible to make the engine and carbs run like new

the bike is coming together great!!!! i got my starter cover for $19.00 total, the last piece to my engine puzzle which is a lil hard to find and kinda had a bid fight for it! i even sprung for a new small speedometer. i was thinking about changing my front sprocket to a lower tooth # but didnt find a good deal.

I have ordered everything i need to get it running today for a total of around $500 so this build will have cost me a total of $1,250 including price for bike! the only thing i need now is JB weld, color paint (everythings primed) high heat black paint for completely black engine except the chrome bolts (which ill cover with tape), and clear coat for everything. i am gonna paint the bike matte black and gun metal grey or a light green i havent decided yet ill have to see them in front of me before i pick. I have a bunch of vynil stickers that im going to put on it. its theme is "punk rock Tempter" i have a few new vynils to put on which ill attatch

I still havent found out what my carb is! i know its a 2x mikuni 35/36mm but i cannot find a carb that matches mine EXACTLY yet (the 82 gs450 is the closest i can find, i previously ordered a new carb kit for a 83 tempter and everything fit (even the gasket) EXCEPT the needle and seats so im really confused about that? they have no numbers or markings except it says mikuni!!! ***********i have lots of pics of my carb on my build if anybody can tell me what kind they r ill send u $10 no kidding - FOR REAL***though ive searched high and low! yamahas hondas kawi's my dad tried too and we cant figure it out.... ugg

i fixed the rear break, my dad flipped the inner knob of the drum in a complete 180 degrees with the brake lever then i took off the brake lever and flipped it around so i figure it should work correctly now since it worked backwards before. This bike surprises and me allot and i really learned a ton which is perfect right before shipping out to MMI, i did ask for a project bike on craigslist and i couldnt of asked for a better bike! frickin awesome i cant wait to hear it start i will be so happy my first street legal bike and i have busted my ass on it since august and am learning every day! i know this bike will do me right in AZ

anybody know where to get solid mechanic pants for a good deal?

What eactly are you looking at for your carbs? If they are the originals this is the factory microfisch and part number listings for the individual parts.
http://www.suzukipartsnation.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=SUZ#/Suzuki/GR650_(1983)/CARBURETOR/09510001/09510014

I scrolled back in your posts and only saw a couple of pics of the floats and towers inside.
Are the needle and seats bad? With these Mikuni's you can usually get away with o-ring kits and float bowl gaskets. I saw you said you need a float and that is in the link I provided. Part # 13250-44080.. IF they are the stock carbs.

im tryin to find the exact model of carbs i have cus they r def not the ones for an 83 gr 650 xd, mine have screw in seats and a small needle like the gs 450. they look very similar but not exact with the brass floats and the screw in needle seats

i got my new clutch line and my K&N intake filter which is about 2mm big but will work fine in place of the old airbox huh... considering the old airbox was nawed on and completely filled by a nasty chicago street rats nest. disgusting

i have everything i need ordered now im just waiting for it to come in!. now im going to clean the engine and prime it.. its gonna be all black except for the chrome bolts should look bad ass! im gonna fill in the "suzuki" on the engine cover so nobody knows what the hell my bike is! gonna be funny :)

Hmmmm those carbs definitely are similar to mine in some ways, but some things are very different. Looks like the choke actuators pull out sideways from the body whereas mine are vertically operated and the throttle springs etc. are very different.

The actual bodies and covers look almost the same though...

alright i broke down and bought a speedo because i destroyed the original gauges trying to trim them down from giant. DO I HAVE TO SET THE SPEEDO UP IN SOME KIND OF WAY? IT DID NOT COME WITH INSTRUCTIONS OR ANYTHING BUT IT SAY 60MPH AT 1000RPM'S. i also bought 3 feet of clear gas line, a clear petcock, and 6 steel ties for my exhaust wrap

You mean what size socket fits them? 18mm
If you mean gap, I am not sure but .7-.8 (28-32 thou) is a safe start.

I see that our project could look pritty same, when i look up Your parts :p But mine project will start up after winter. I hope your project will be hilarious! What color you will put on? I think about deep blue xirallic, but its not cheep (its like 75 dollars for quart) ;]

no im wondering what suize the spark plug top is cus i need new plug to connect to the coil.. i think they r 8mm or 7mm, the name of my plugs r ng8k or something like that i know there is a 8 in the name..but i just ordered oem plug heads from suzuki so they will fit so its ok, but where do i measure the plug im guessing the top tip? BUT N E WAYS I PUT MY NEW PAINTED MOTOR ON MY FRAME TODAY AND ALSO ATTATCHED THE REAR END AND SUSPENSION!!! man i'll tell u what its much easier putting it together the 3rd time lol no mistakes! and the paintm looks great, i finally got the correct seats and needles and floats on the way so i am psyched about that she will be running in the latest three weeks!!i just need to get some straigh 1.5" pipes to make the exhaust how i like it!! the bike looks better than i thought and the speedo fits and def works yayer!!!! the only hard part i ghot coming up is the wiring cus ive only took it off and marked it so it shouldnt be that bad!!
