Got the 3m tape. Thanks guys.

I'll get Aetsh to take some better pics - I'm heading to bed. Long days night, ya know?

And Joe: one of my friends is a former Marine. He's about 5'9", 275 pounds. Looks like a shaved gorilla. Just a mass of a man. But he stopped out shortly after I got the bike street worthy and got to take it up and down the street....... I think he was in 1st gear for about 200 feet. After he got back he said "Yep, wont be doing no wheelies on that"

holy shit that is the funniest thing ive heard in a while! made my morning great! ;D

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Factory Authorized Parts!

Rich, When you said you had 120 main jets and still had a little flat spot at the top end were you thinking next size bigger or smaller would work? Also you mentioned you were a little lean at idle so I'm looking at the 20's for pilot jets I put 125's in for mains but spark plugs are still sooty and it lacks responsiveness. I'm ordering 110's and 115's. I found a pair of 120's in some other carbs I have kicking around so I may try those while I wait but I think the 115's are going to be better.

Badges look great too!!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Factory Authorized Parts!

I honestly don't know. 120's are what I stopped at until I get some other stuff tuned. But I've tried 110's and 115's and they do the same thing so I might need to step up to 125's. ??? Yay tuning.

When you order your pilots, are you able to order them in pairs?

Luckily for me, there's a bike shop about ten minutes away that I can just trade jets with though.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Factory Authorized Parts!

I need to check one other local shop but noone seems to carry them. all the jets I've seen are individual.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Factory Authorized Parts!

I had to order the pilots from bikebandit and they came in packs of 4. If you decide you need some 17.5's, let me know.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Factory Authorized Parts!

oh man! yes please send em out! That gas cap is ready to go and i'll throw a tenner in there for you as well. On your mains; what do your plugs look like? if your getting a flat spot with all those different jets, yes it could be jetting but it might be the coils, timing or timing advance too. my plugs are all sooty so i know I'm rich with the 125's in. just a thought you probably already had.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Factory Authorized Parts!

My plugs and my exhaust outlet are a milk chocolate brown color. I've checked the timing the best I can, and checked the valves multiple times. I'm waiting til next payday to get a new coil (had to get a new tire for the Zook).

So yeah, that's why I'm holding off on really tuning and only going for 5-10 minute rides through town.

I'll get those jets out asap!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the Good, Bad, and the battery

Well, the good news is I thought I had everything buttoned down fairly well. Got to take the bike out for a little ride yesterday and got some compliments. BUT...... I was a couple miles from home when I was turning around in a parking lot when the bike just shut off completely. Looking down, the neutral light was off so I knew it was the battery. Unbolting the seat, this is what I saw:

I'm going to post it in the "cafe help" section, but I'll ask here as well. Anybody have a good Honda regulator just laying around?

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the Good, Bad, and the battery

I'm sure I must. I'll take a look before I drop the cap in the mail. That sucks dude, try throwing some rubber over the battery to save future upholstery, old inner tubes work well.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the Good, Bad, and the battery

I'd appreciate it. Von is pulling one from one of his, but if you have an extra I'll take it as well.

Thanks man!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the Good, Bad, and the battery

I will look today. MikesXS has the honda coil for like $43 I got mine from there. they list it for the 750 but its the same coil.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the Good, Bad, and the battery

So not only is my Honda down for a couple days, but my Suzuki is up on the stand now too. I've had a slow leak coming from the rear tire for the past couple months (like 10 PSI a week) but recently it's been losing 20 PSI in about 12 hours. No biggie, just ordered a new back tire last Thursday and got it installed today. Unfortunately, while it was on the center stand the fork seal somehow blew it's guts all over the front tire + wheel. While I'm in there I will get some Progressive springs along with the seals, oil, and new front tire. Dammit. What's the point of having 2 cycles when they are both broke down at the same time?

Hopefully I can get the new battery + regulator on the Honda asap.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the Good, Bad, and the battery

ha ha ha i feel ya! i had to chime in... showed my brother your scoot... i come back to the shop and my KZ200 is missing... i asked sean where it went he said my brother came and got it... i went to his house... sure enough!!! my KZ200 is there!!!! he said that i was too big for it, and he was doing me a favor! ha ha ha
ooh well as long as he is building i am happy. told him that he has to knock out the G wing first... but it looks like we are going to tag team that sucker and do a build... he loves BLING so i am going to let him go to down and polish the hll out of it... looks like i will be a gorilla on a cycle here afterall!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the Good, Bad, and the battery

Ha ha ha! Joe, you'll love it. You'll hear all these soon enough:

"You call that a motorcycle?" Nope, but the DMV sure as hell does.

"You get that from Cracker Jacks?" Yep, you should see the size of the box it came in.

"Where are the training wheels?" I dropped the off at your garage for your "insert bike of choice here"

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the Good, Bad, and the battery

"You paid how much? You coulda bought a real bike for that"

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the Good, Bad, and the battery

That's one thing I'm actually proud of - $250 for an extremely rare sloper (considering he had the title)! It's hard to even find a parts bike for that price.

So after making a little "to do before Troy's" list (and I work 6 of the next 10 days), here's what I came up with:

Install new clutch cable (in the mail)
Make a skid plate from aluminum
Install new gas cap
Put different grips on
Re-jet the mains
Make a new battery tray (battery's in the mail)
Install reg. and rectifier
Replace backlight in speedo
And I'm looking for a small Honda wings decal

I'm off the 17th through the 20th - so if anybody wants to stop out any of those days and help out, it's greatly appreciated.
