Plates are probably fine, it's always the springs that go particularly since they have been compressed for 40+yrs

So far the only springs I found are Vesrah Heavy duty.
Which would be fine. I just started looking.

Re: 72- CL100 - Going OFFFF THE GRID - Piglet 2.0

Just realized why that fender looks odd. It might be for a bigger wheel, yes, but it's also on backwards.

Springs cover a multitude of bikes.
Actual dimensions
ID 0.630"
OD 0.830"
OAL 1.640"

I thought it looked backwards too. But it arrived w holes drilled in it for a mudflap?

So...when in Rome. Do it like the guy who drilled the holes in the wrong end. LOL

Ordered the Bore-tech. I like em in the 360.

Mudflap went on the front.

Yep, that's how they did them back then.

Re: 72- CL100 - Going OFFFF THE GRID - Piglet 2.0

Having that flap on the front (flapping around) I can see how they would catch enough air to wobble around wildly and fold them under.

and if a companies gonna engineer the thing like that...why not just make the fender a bit longer to start with, and not have the mud flap at all.

Re: 72- CL100 - Going OFFFF THE GRID - Piglet 2.0

You use a section of old rear inner-tube ::)
It hangs down and keeps the crap off plus you can still see tyre when standing up 'trails riding'

I gotcha

Re: 72- CL100 - Going OFFFF THE GRID - Piglet 2.0

Yeah, seeing the front tire is pretty important on technical stuff. I think the theory with the rubber is it kept mud from collecting. It won't collect on rubber, but it will on plastic and metal. My DR was a '90 and it still flapped around at speed. It's a much longer front, but the flat design caught the wind. They've finally figured out how to make a fender with an aerodynamic profile that still covers enough wheel to do it's job. You'll notice on most dirt fenders, the back doesn't cover in front of the motor. They usually stop right around where the exhaust starts.

Re: 72- CL100 - Going OFFFF THE GRID - Piglet 2.0

In 1950's~60's (and early 70's) technology (and money) wasn't where it is today so people used what was available and worked. The Japanese 'copied' what they 'saw' but the engineers 'improved' things without actually understanding what the were 'improving' so rigid plastic 'mud-flaps' got added when really it was a personal preference/fitting even on 'factory' bikes for muddy conditions. A section of inner tube is easily stretched over a steel or alloy mudguard and is 'quick release' (or quick change) when needed
If you look at pictures from 1960's ISDT (or similar) you'll see most bikes had a 'hang down' mud-flap when weather was wet but pictures are rarely good enough to see exactly what type
I just realised, I probably listened to my father a LOT more than I thought I did and remembered a ton more than I thought possible ;D

Re: 72- CL100 - Going OFFFF THE GRID - Piglet 2.0

I did notice on newer bikes the front fender doesn't hang so low as to prevent slinging mud on the engine.

Im like "Caking mud on the engine IS gonna prevent air flow...wtf". ::)

Im not planning to change it up now. Thankfully, Standing on pegs I can just see the tire. :). May hack it down an inch or so later.

So, Moving forward this a.m. w the case savers and bash pan. Looking into beefing up foot peg bracket, as these seem prone to snapping off at a weak bend.

Greg is planning to come do my welding weekend after next. :) Always fun to have him spend a weekend.

Re: 72- CL100 - Going OFFFF THE GRID - Piglet 2.0

This isn't an S model, is it?

Re: 72- CL100 - Going OFFFF THE GRID - Piglet 2.0

Im sure its not an S. I think its a CL100- K0. IDK the difference for sure.

Re: 72- CL100 - Going OFFFF THE GRID - Piglet 2.0

OK read a thread on advrider apparently the "S" model was governed. It had a longer slide in the carb so the bike would make 5hp and limit top speed.
Mine don't have that.

Its a FULL BLOWN 11.5hp. ;D. It will do 57mph if I tuck in tight.
