Thanks everyone! Any time Teazer. Spray Max 2K is the clear to use; two part Urethane in a rattle can and it lays down really nice. - Stout

I had a can on order but it has not arrived, so I'll grab one from our local auto paint supply store and try it.

How does the clear hold up to gas?

Fortunatetly, I haven't spilled any gas on it yet to find out :) But since it is a 2 part urethane, it should hold up. I'm still going to avoid spills; but their website says "very high chemical, petrol and weather resistance ..."
http://www.spraymax.de/index.php?id=361&L=1 I just had the local body supply place order it for me.

Re: 74 CB360-Paint Done

What type/brand of fizzy can paint did you use for color? Any special prep or drying technique?

The paint looks really, really nice!

Re: 74 CB360-Paint Done

The white and metallic black in the upper "eye brows" are duplicolor, the orange is base coat mixed into a rattle can by the local body shop supply store. All of the color sat for a day before I cleared it, but only because I wasn't completely sure I was going to keep it those colors. I could have sprayed clear as soon as the color was dry.

I had a small heater pointed on the the tank after clear, but that was only because my garage was so cold. The heater actually caused it to cure a little too fast, which meant I had to wetsand more than I should have. If the place you are spraying is 70 degs or so, I'd just leave it alone until the clear has cured, less chance of screwing it up or getting dirt in it that way.

One suggestion... if you are going to do stripes or two tone, use the blue 3M plastic tape when you tape it off. It leaves a much cleaner line than masking tape and you can curve it easier.

Thanks for all of the compliments ~ stout

Re: 74 CB360-Paint Done

What size tire are you running on the front? Is it the stock 90/90 for the 360?
I love the look of the bike man. Looks rad.

Re: 74 CB360-Paint Done

Yeah, they are the stock size. 90/90 and 110 in the rear. Thanks! - Stout

Re: 74 CB360- Rode it today!!

I got it running... typical Honda, cold blooded but once it's warmed up you barely hit the starter button and she fires off :)
It took a lot of work to get the petcock to quit leaking even after a complete Honda rebuild kit. It seems like it might be kinda temperamental, so I may end up putting a new petcock on it. Anyone have any suggestions for aftermarket ones?
Other than that I still need to touch up some of the engine paint since the petcock was leaking all over. The VHT wrinkle held up pretty good, but after a pool sat on it for 1/2 hour or so without me knowing it peeled some paint. Anyway, here are some pics. Thanks for looking, Stout

Re: 74 CB360- Rode it Today!

Thanks everyone. The heat shields on the mufflers work great! You could lay your hand right on them after riding 50 miles.

Re: 74 CB360- Rode it Today!

New petcock showed up yesterday, brand new from Honda... wish I would've known from the beginning these were available, could've saved $22 on a rebuild kit that didn't work.

Unfortunately, the weather has reverted back to winter here (supposed to snow today) so I won't be able to get any more miles put on for a few days. About a hundred on it right now without any problems other than the leaking petcock. ~stout

Re: 74 CB360- Rode it Today!

Sucks about the weather, where are you located Stout? I'm in MN just north of the cities. Supposed to drive home in "slush" they said! haha

Edit: I should have just clicked on you, and found that you are in WI.

Re: 74 CB360- Rode it Today!

Yeah, I'm 45min south of Green Bay... It is both snowing and thundering right now, kinda weird. Won't be riding for a while. - Stout

Re: 74 CB360- Rode it Today!

I dig this bike a lot.....I'm glad I got my butt back on here and started looking around the past few days.....Keep up the good work....

Re: 74 CB360- Rode it Today!

Ok, so I tried the two color paint trick and it was OK and then I decided to add a pin stripe to separate the two primary colors and I'm out of my depth here. How did you do those stripes and get such clean edges and really smooth curves?

I'm fine with rattle cans and single colors or a single, simple wide stripe but complex curves are not as easy as they look. Maybe I should have asked Swapmeet Louie to make me up some stencils.

Re: 74 CB360- Rode it Today!

I keep coming back to look at this thing. It is soooo nice. Well done man. Really.

Re: 74 CB360- Rode it Today!

Thanks for the compliments! As for the paint, I layed down the white then taped out the outline of all of the designs using 3M plastic tape (http://www.amazon.com/3M-Scotch-Plastic-Striping-Tape-Car/dp/B002MOL1O6) This stuff really helps give a nice crisp line. When laying it down I start in one spot with about ten inches unrolled pulling kind of tight on it with one hand (not too tight though or it'll stretch). As I move along I press it down with the other hand. The trick is to look where you are going not where you are. It's kinda like riding a motorcycle around a corner, if you look directly at the corner you're going to make a lot of little corners in that one big corner, but if you look where you want to go it'll be one nice sweeping arc, make sense?

Once I had that taped out, I sprayed the orange, let it tack up (keeping it taped out). Then where I wanted the orange outline and the black in the middle I used more of the 3M plastic tape to trace around the outside edge. Then I covered everything I wanted to keep orange and left whatever I wanted black exposed, sprayed black, removed all tape and paper, touched up anything that needed to be touched up and sprayed clear. Hope you can follow all that without any pictures. - Stout
