Looks like everything is finally back on! Was scratching my head about the rear brake pedal because I didn't want to use the center stand. Thought about removing the center stand from the spacer with a grinding wheel but didn't have the heart. Luckily the extra tubing I cut from the DCC rear hoop is EXACTLY the I.D. I needed. Just trimmed to fit. Back and knees are killing me so I didn't notice until I saw the pics that I tightened the pinch bolts up a little too much.

Rode this bitch down the street yesterday!! Got a list of things to figure out. First, my original petcock was leaking right out the selector. Serves me right for not replacing the internals. Took the one from the donor bike and it was better but the fuel flow is so slow it will only run while the lines are full. In other words, it consumes fuel faster than the petcock will allow. That's why it dies in the video and I only got a block away. New petcock on the way, what's another $50 at this point?
Little shimmy on the front wheel, going to check the axle clamps/nuts, tire bead, etc.
NEED A SEAT! Wouldn't mind buying a fiberglass deal off the shelf but can't find what I want. I'm between houses right now so I'm not sure about trying to tackle making one myself. Keeping the bike at a friend's shop so I only have Saturday mornings with it right now..sniff, sniff.

Still chipping away at some of the issues. The clip ons I bought from Lowbrow Customs were sweet except for the tank clearance issue. Even with the nuts turned the other way, the pinch part of the bars still bangs the tank. Didn't want to move the tank closer to the rear so I used the billet bars from my Triumph. Ended up working out nicely. Just need to space the master cylinder away from the bars as the end of it hits the "knuckle" of he bars. I like to position the levers kind of 3/4 underneath.
Also had to drill the ends of the billets out to accommodate bar end mirrors later on. Took a minute to shine them up to match the triple tree a little more...

Also got a chance to trim the fender...decided to go a little longer than the usual cafe cut I like it. Waiting for a seat from HotWing Glass. It may not be exactly what I want but I will be able to use it as a base to get the shape I want. The original seat is still on there for now.
Still need:
  • Pipes
  • License Plate Mount
  • Tail Light

Two steps forward, one step back. Slapped a license plate mount (some random bracket I found at work) on the rear shock mount and decided it was do or die. Still don't have a brake light but luckily my neighborhood is out of the way and deserted. Everything was so smooth, engine, shifts, clutch, etc. Cruised around a little bit and noticed a ridiculous lack of power. Caliper was dragging so much the bike didn't want to roll. Had the caliper apart and blew out the MC, thought it was fine. Caliper piston was free, pads free, wheel spacing is correct, etc. I am going to guess that the bleed off valve (?) is clogged and not returning the fluid. So, more mess coming up. Guess I'll try the boiling trick to get the gunk out. I hate brake fluid....

Still waiting for my MC rebuild kit so I'm banging my head against the wall trying to get some mufflers on this bitch. I would love a complete 2 into 2 from BCR but I've just about reached my budget (and I really didn't even start with one).
I'm wondering if I could just weld the mufflers to the headers. Maybe cut a slight angle into the outlet of the exhaust to create a little upsweep? Has anybody gone that route? I don't see any aftermarket solutions and the exhaust shops around me don't care to take on projects.

And here's where I ask opinions...
So down the road I will look into a proper tank/seat combo (need to set up in a new house and get my glassing skills honed). Until then I want to run it with either the stock seat or the stock seat pan I bought with a modified pad. I couldn't bear to tear this seat up...it's perfect. Anyway, bought a sportbike tail light for $5 at the swap meet last weekend and thought it fit nicely under the seat. I think it has the functionality of amber blinkers but I guess the controller from the original bike is the only way to make it work. The only thing I don't like is that it has a clear lens...should I run with it or find something more period?

why not just tint the lens black? you can use translucent paint from a hobby store

Regarding the pipes, I found out from someone on here that DCC makes small chrome pipe adapters that you can install between your mufflers and your pipes that will give you a 30 degree upsweep. I don't remember how much they cost, but I do remember thinking that they weren't very expensive.

I had those on order. Waited almost a month. It seems their supplier lost all their stock in a warehouse move...had to go a different route. May have found a better solution. I'll post pics later if successful!

Keep getting sidetracked by life but this build lives. Having some trouble with the right cylinder kind of skipping a little but it's really just a place holder as I've yet to reassemble the original engine.
Finally found something to upsweep my exhaust. Columbia River Mandrel Bends has these 18 degree stainless bends. Had to expand my mufflers a hair to get them to slip in but it it looks nice. The headers are a different story. Expanded those a little to fit this adapter but now they are kind of flared and it doesn't give me a tight fit. So, gonna try and get a friend to TIG them up. All in all I'm happy with how they sit.

They were $27 for the pair. I gave them a quick polish to match a little better. Also shaved an inch off one side toe get the mufflers in the right spot.
