Damn dude! I haven't checked in on this in a while, you're getting close. The 650 has such great lines, props for just tweaking the look instead of chopping it. If you want to refine the look a little more the 77-80 KZ1000LTD fender will bolt on and is quite a bit smaller and sleeker IMHO. I am using it on my kz750twin project. I love the color you are going with. that was a contender when i was deciding on a color for my 750. Cant wait to see this come together.
Providing a quick update. It's getting even closer.
Routed the clutch cable and installed the oil cooler this weekend. Just need to install carbs, fuel lines, throttle cables, mount exhaust and it should be ready for go.
Here is what's left
Mount Carbs
Run Fuel Lines & Install Fuel Filter Install fittings and route oil cooler lines
Install Horn
Route Throttle Cables & Clutch Cables Install Clutch/Drive Sprocket Cover Install Shift Lever
Install Speedo & Tach Cable
Mount Kerker Exhaust
Fill engine with oil
Prime engine to lubricate before starting
Torque Spark Plugs and all remaining bolts
START!
Re: 79 Kawasaki KZ650 - Installed Oil Cooler, final stages
Wow! I have a Kawasaki kit and didn't know what it was for. (I used to buy job lots of 'stuff' several years ago and only wanted the cooler)
Thanks for posting those instructions.

Wow. When these bikes were new, they never turned me on at all. But yours is gorgeous, and I love the attention to detail! They certainly weren't that nice in the showroom.
Guess a lot has to do with deletion of corporate-inspired details and making it something more cohesive . . .

Your welcome. It was pretty easy to install. Just had to loosely fit the exaust pipes to make sure the hoses weren't touching. Nothing wrong with over using zip-ties.

Re: 79 Kawasaki KZ650 - Installed Oil Cooler, final stages

Mount Kerker Exhaust
Fill Tank with Prem Gas (high compression pisons)
Double check manual cam tensioner.
Double Check Timing
Buy new sealed battery Mount Carbs Run Fuel Lines & Install Fuel Filter Install fittings and route oil cooler lines Install Horn Route Throttle Cables & Clutch Cables Install Clutch/Drive Sprocket Cover Install Shift Lever Fill engine with oil Prime engine to lubricate before starting Torque Spark Plugs and all remaining bolts START!
Re: 79 Kawasaki KZ650 - It's going to be a great Christmas
Finito, Fini, Finished... (minus paint job)
Have you ever seen anything start for the first time so easily? I couldn't believe it. You know I must of had personally triple checked everything when it goes so smoothly. The electronic ignition (Marktek 440) probably makes all the difference. Also I am using Iridium Spark Plugs. Oh and the carbs were already tuned for a over sized piston kit when i got it, almost same CC. I didn't touch any of the adjustments when i rebuilt them. (112 main jets).
