DAY UM!If I was going that far,I would have ordered color coded wiring spools to my specs. Can't wait for the wiring follies to follow.LOL

The M-unit is a neat piece, it's got that intangible Teutonicness, same 'something' you get the first time you drive an M class BMW. For something roughly the same size as a pack of smokes it's quite substantial.

There are some interesting alternatives that I didn't know about when I ordered, mainly from the chopper market, less fancy than this piece BUT.....they come with a raw wiring harness you cut down to suit and the run around $280. I'm not on my PC at the moment but I'll dig up the link tomorrow.

awesome build, another happy trailtech vapor customer by the looks, i reckon they are great and pretty cheap when sourced from the right ebay shops

I read you loud and clear pal. Funny, tonight I was thinking about everything I've put into the cb550. Sometimes it makes me think I'm crazy considering that I could have a nice, far better performing, newer bike at this point. Ya know what's worse? I have all the sources and services bookmarked for the full on crazy engine build I'm dead set doing on next winter. I need a fuckin reality check or something.

Christ I hate thinking about this stuff.

:)

Von Kirk 75 dt250: Groovy man, I hope you find something useful or entertaining. Hang around, I have the good beer stashed behind the welder!

jaderd: I am indeed. I've played around with a couple but never kept the bike around long enough to know more than that I was really impressed with the unit. Enough so that I'm considering one for the entire dash (plus one other digital screen) for my next hotrod. Who says your gauges/dash HAVE to be big in a car?

AzHonda: Heh...mostly you'll pick up tips on how to be a big doofus but...you know, whatever works! haha!

Ringo: The thing is, and I had to mull it over til I came to the conclusion that worked for. me (self justification anyone?). Basically it's this:

We're doing something to individualize an otherwise obsolete machine destined to rust away at best. We're keeping stuff out of landfills and backlots. We are stating to the world that we are creators first, consumers somewhere after that.

And because they're fuckin' rad.

As promised, here are the alternatives i found AFTER I started down my current path

Thunderheart from J&P, lots of interesting stuff here

Looks to have everything one would need AND a shit load of wiring already there, just cut and terminate.

Steelthunder's (are we seeing a pattern here?) Wire Plus kits:

A more 'standard' approach but very clean:

Centech has all manner of interesting electrical goodies to play with:

You said it best, these bikes will be priceless works of art someday........hopefully, so just build what you have the means to build and I promise your bike will be way cooler and have more soul than something off the showroom floor. Im starting to want one of these wiring controller deals, do the kits come with wire as well to redo all the wiring or do you use existing wires?

The M-unit is a stand alone but the other options have harness wore already attached that you cut to suit....

Damit!
Building these bikes just gets more and more expensive! I got away from restoring old International trucks because of cost and the fact that I have to have good parts and like to try new things. I love bikes and thought it would be cheaper and here you go throwing all this up.

Thanks man......thanks for costing me at LEAST $500 out of my pocket on my next build. 8) :'(

You know, I've been thinking of re-wiring my Thruxton to get rid of some of the extra crap that's in there. I was feeling pretty overwhelmed by it but something like that looks like I would be able to create a very basic harness on my own. IF I ever get that kind of money to spend on it.

Hi John, sorry I missed your response....

*I* don't really have this kinda money, not really....but it is just too good to pass up.

Just a wee update:
This afternoon I got screwed outta going to Mods&Rockers here in Portland so I took the time to finish up my underseat pan for the electricals.

You sir need a disclaimer in your sig. I have spent all the time I was meant to be doing stuff round the house this weekend reading your threads and drooling over your woirkshop and fabrication skills.

Does the M-unit have an inbuilt flasher for the indicators or is a separate flasher relay needed?

Hey thanks for the kind words. I'd just like to finish one of mine this year...haha.
The m-unit is everything. No flashers or anything else needed. I will be adding a ground buss as grounding can be pretty important.
But yeah, it's everything.

If you're considering this you might look into some fr included.om the chopper market as they often have the new harness included, just trim to suit. And they run right around the same money WITH the wire

Sorry, I don't understand that part. There is a place to get the M unit with a full harness? I am digging that.

Not the M-unit specificly, thundermountain has a really nice setup that does the important 85% of what the m-unit does and has the harness wire included and some of them have a key switch too. What you'll lose out on are the 'fluff' features like adjustable flashers and headlights pulsing.

Yup.....

Ooh, I really like the renders...

I think you might have found a winter project for me with the thunder heart kit from J&P. Damn this site...
