A few words.

Jesus. I've been online since before there were forums, while they were new (Pete will never die. - for you early gamers) and every community goes through this same phase. You old timers can take pride that you've created something of value or out wouldn't be growing. Unfortunately the noobs are always going to be around and some of them are too lazy or to impatient to find their answers by searching or reading old threads. Anyway, chill out. Your core group of buddies will still be around or it wasn't meant to be (all due respect to Susan Sontag, haha).

Now, I have a few words (our a few more for those of you who are counting/anal).

First, Makr is a great machinist and does some great work on his projects. I don't agree with all his choices but he really does some amazing work - especially given the resources he has to work with. Most of you would be better off to accept his quirks and encourage his participation.

Second, Makr, don't refer to me as a friend. Former friend,
guy I used to know or whatever, but obviously "friend" isn't the proper term anymore.

Seacrest out.

A bit late for THAT chapter huh? It would be too bad if he tucked tail and slunk off, I think you're right, he could contribute a lot here if he chose too. I hope YOU stick around too. I too remember the bad ol'BBS days.....ah tracknet....what memories.

Somehow, despite checking this forum several times a day, I just now saw this particular thread. I'd been posting on other sites for a while, and eventually lost interest in them or just felt too discouraged to return. Every build thread on those sites seemed to turn into nothing but hostile replies, like "your bike sucks and I hope you die." The reason I've stuck with this site is the amount of support here. Even when people disagree here, they disagree respectfully. I'll admit, right now I'm a little bit of a taker, but you have to gain knowledge before you can spread it. I'm building my first bike with absolutely no training or building experience. All I've got to work with is a little bit of potential and a ton of advice, support, and inspiration from members of this forum.

I recognize most of the names in this thread and I think that's a good sign. The way I see it, the people who really care about this site will stay here, and the rest - those people who just want to pop in, show off a few pics, etc - will come and go.

dgrady77, Is your build your avatar? If so is that a plunger BSA? If it is your build please post a build thread. Experience is something you get from great ideas gone wrong. And I've got a ton of experience!! My Dad told me years ago to "Make all the mistakes you want but try to make them only once". Should have listened to him.

This forum has a lot of experience and I think I'm safe in saying we will all be glad to share it with you. We may not agree on everything but if we did we'd all be on Manx Nortons. Its your build. Build it your way and bugger the naysayers.

Right now I'm trying to figure a belt driven turbo for the sidecar. In my mind its done and works fantastic. In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is. So I'll just bumble my way along until I get it to work. Unless, of course, someone out there has a clue as to what I'm doing. If so speak up.

Stick around. Its one of the better places.

Hoofhearted, the build thread is here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=20177.0 I've been working pretty slowly, especially when searching for obscure British parts, so the thread gets swallowed up by other threads pretty easily. It is indeed a plunger BSA, and I've already learned a lot, either from my own mistakes or from the lessons others here have learned and passed on to the rest of us. The more I learn, the more I realize I still don't know, and the more addicted I get, both to the bike and to this site. So don't worry, I'm not going anywhere.
