Thanks Joe. Clear turned out awesome. It's an aerosol can. 2 stage clear. That reminds me I need to thank Malloy. He told me about it. Thank you very much my friend! The stuff rocks. It felt like I had a spray gun in my hand.
I had something happen to the tank though but I'm not sure what. After applying a coat of base, when sanding it would look uneven like the metalic was spoty. It would look even again after applying a fresh coat of base. The final sand before clear was 2ooo grit. It looked even before I applied the clear but as soon as the clear hit it the uneven color showed up under the clear. It happened on the fender too but not as noticible. I plan to run it the way it is for now.
Here is what Malloy posted abut it:
"hey troy, here is the 2K clear. This is the best place online to order.
FYI...I was able to do my XS650 tank with 1 can. (4 good heavy coats) and i'm pretty sure the XS tank is bigger than yours. this stuff works soo well. I work for mercedes-benz and my fellow techs thought the bodyshop did my tank. they were stunned when I told them it was a rattle can. this is the real deal stuff. good luck with your project. "
troy, glad you liked it.. I told ya it's the real deal. 8) comes out like a gun and dries rock hard. when I did my tank I didn't sand the color coat. I used the spraymax 2k epoxy primer. (which is awesome too) sprayed my color, then hit it with the clear. how many coats were you able to lay?
Joe, the stuff is sick! You'll love it. I won't need to sand and polish. the surface is like glass. It looks like it is still wet.
As far as the variations in color it kinda looks worn and adds to the look. Most of it I really like but the tank will get re-done this winter because there are a couple of spots that don't look good. Will say I'm a huge fan of the clear now.
Malloy, I'll have to remember about the epoxy primer. If it's anything like the clear...well, I sold! Thanks again bro.
Yes sir, more please. That looks the sickness brother. Hella impressed! Now I need to get off of my ass ang go to the garage so I can post some pics for you guys tonight.....finally! Man you put my progress speed to shame!
Good to hear from you Kiley. I've been putting in some late nights on the bike. Weather here has been good so its been farm work during the day and bike build by night. Brother, I hope you don't answer my questions here because you are out working on the bike!
Seems my coils took a crap the last time I had the bike running. I replaced the points just before i tore into her. Today I had no spark on the right side. Flashed the points over and got spark on the left but not the right. My tester is out on loan and its not back yet.
I'm assuming it the coils. I plan to do a search on the forum, but does anyone have any suggestions for coils? do I try to located oem new or used or has anyone done any kind of conversions with coils for autos?
I would love to get this thing going tomorrow.
After doing a little reading I believe I will be looking for a set of Bosch Vw coils. they are a little large but maybe I can paint a cover for them and lay down some lace. I'm still unclear if I need to run a condensor?? Hopefull I'll figure it out??
I was in the garage ALL day yesterday. As you know my truck held me up a little bit, but I got some work done fo sho!
As far as coils go, I was considering using a set of MikesXS coils for mine. Heard they run nice and hot....And as far as helmets go, you lookin for a halfie? Got some good leads on those if so. Bike looks rockin' dude! Check the build page. It should be up by the time youre done. You're still kickin' my A$$!
Good job brother. Oh and BTW, did that headlight come yet?
Troy there are supposed to be a set of coils you can pick up at auto zone... if you google it i think they come up... i can not recall... when i was workign on my CB350 i found the links and emailed them to myself... if you can not track them down i can go back through my emails... i should do it anyway... but let me know
Hey Kiley, I knew you were busy with other stuff. Glad you are back working on the bike! No bucket yet. I kinda figured you'd forgot. Thank you very much brother. I'm sure it will get here anytime.
Hey Joe thanks. I did just that and I picked up a new pair for a 70s VW bug. Got them installed but no spark at points. I have power going to the coils so I'm thinking the condensor took a poop too. I have a honda shop about 45 min away but their books don't go back that far. Be nice if I could match something from an old automobile. However, I'm afraid I'd fry the points so we'll see.
ahh that is no good! man... i dont know.. i wish i knew more about that stuff to help you out. i am sure one of the CB360 gurus will hop on and have some simple answer for you... if not, do what i do when i can not figure it out, google searches to the rescue! be amazed at what some people post up in other forums and on QA boards
What year is your 360 again? they show them available on Bikebandit.com for 32.88 fro a 1974. Just grabbed a year. They are good. I bouhgt a shitload of stuff from them last X-Mas.
Check them out. OEM parts with Fiche. If you can put a Quantity in, they can usually get it.
Thanks Maritime. It is stamped Dec 74 on the frame but the title says 75. anyhow, thank you. I'll give them a try. I really think it should solve my problem.
Swagger, that thing is beautiful! What I wouldn't give! Wow!
Just ordered a new condenser. Hopefully they won't be using Fed Ex and it will get here quickly.
I don't want to take finished photos until its running and back on the road. Soon my friends, soon.
