Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Hey man, thanks. Once I put the seat on the frame the lines on the blue tank just didn't look right. So I put the 360 tank on plus the seat, then I thought it needed the fender. Like you said, "let the bike speak" or somehting like that. Anyhow, looks like everyone on here is of the same opinion too.
I will take you up on that fender. That Rocks! Just let me know how much and I'll get it out to you. Send me a pm or something. Troy

Man, I should add that the group of guys on here are a great sounding board. i love to bounce ideas off everyone. Hence, all the photos of the same damn thing just from different angles. Lots of opinions really help out!

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

The 200 tank is a horizontal tank I reckon. Your stance is saggy, so Id stick with the red. The red one on there looks dope. Thats the tank from the original bike? That seat is sooo awesome.

Keep it up!

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Hi Troy, The "new" bike looks great. I loved the cafe, but this is cool too. That gator seat is sweet! And I'm with the others, the 360 tank is best.

I haven't forgotton about the "chopper" tank, just haven't had time to reasearch what its worth (if you're still interested).

Is that a dog or a horse? :)

Yep I agree the 200 tank is more boxy and horizontal. The orange (it looks more red in the photos) one is the factory cl 360 tank. to be honest I wasn't too sure about the seat at first but it is really growing on me. I was wanting something very sliim and trim and it seems to fit the bill pretty good. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to mount it as low as it will go. When mounted if it raises up much in the back it really pitches forward. I think it's because the frame rails are so flat instead of sloped. I think mounting it solid might be the way to go.

Man like I said, I forgot about that tank. I went back through your build thread and that thing would look dope if it's not too wide. Maybe i need to post up photos here and see what everyone thinks?
Although I've already made a deal with kanticoy and he is sending me an awesome CB 360 tank that is in much better condition than mine. If the chopper tank ends up working out then i don't mind having the 360 tank as an extra. I think it might be cool to switch it out at times and have a whole different looking bike.
Oh ya, I have two of those. The one in the photo and a black one. Both were rescues and great dogs. They do take up most of the bed at night though and sometimes i find myself on the couch ;D

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

I like the orange with the gator seat. But I would LOVE the blue tank with a ribbed seat to match the tank! It would be some crazy hybrid of style.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

+1 to that. The problem with the orange tank is that everyone has that look and granted it is a good look but the blue tank is something special. It is different and eye catching, it doesn't say bobber it says "look at me I'm a one off". Yes it does have a horizontal racer look and that is uber cool, low sleek and fast. And defo run the fender it adds so much to the backend.
Just a question but isn't a cb tank different in shape to the cl?

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Wowzers, Troy!

I was digging the cafe tank with that seat, but then I saw it with the orange tank. Pure sexiness. The stance is just perfect on that beast! The next bike I build, it's going to be a bobber! I'm taking a welding class so hopefully that'll serve me well in my future builds.

....that gator seat....so nice...

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Thanks for all the input guys. Much appreciated. I love to bounce ideas off you guys and get an idea of what everyone thinks. Right now the the question is which tank to run. The cl tank is going to require a bunch of work including closing the tunnel at the back and adding a new petcock. Not too bad but again with this build I'm hoping to keep cost very low and do these mods quick so I can ride it very soon. I do plan to work on it this winter where I'd spend a bunch more time. Anyhow, the tank has some good dents and the tunnel at the back is HUGE. It would need filled in. The next option would be the CB 360 tank that is on its way from Kanticoy. And yes hotfunk it is different than the CL tank. A bit boxier but the tunnel at the back is much smaller. May not need any work what so ever. I would consider running it as is, but with a bunch of coats of clear over it. I think it would have a vintage look and it would go with the silver frame very well. Here it is:

The next option might be a chopper tank that came on CC's bike. It is a chopper tank and I'll post up a couple of photos in my next post. It looks pretty cool too, but I'd loose that vintage feel and it would be,... well..., a chopper tank. I'm still not sure how it would fit. It is low and mean but it may be a little wide.

CC and Kanticoy I hope you guys don't mind that I swipped you pics ;D

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Heck now man! Swipe away! I got the tank ready to ship out with the fender tomorrow... I didn't make it. Post today. I dig the vintage feel for this bike man, but hey I'm a vintage kind of guy. When I think bobber I think low long and thin. I also think of a very diy look. But hey we all think different things....I can even see some exhaust visions in my head. And maybe a drag bar? Hmmm. You've got my wheels turning! Now I want to build a bobber....I think I have a problem!

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

I think you have answered your own dilemma, "cheap low cost mods so you can ride sooner" stick with the 200 tank it looks hot and if you hadnt of shown everyone the cl tank they would all agree. As an aside the cb tank could look the biz as well.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

+1 on that... Troy you should just set it up with the 200 tank. ride the rest of the season, then this winter rip that tank off and get a diff tank on there. the CB200 tank does not look bad at all... i dig the "chop" tank, does it really have duel tanks in there or is one of the fills fake? sharp.

Well, you made me look. Either the left filler is stuck or it's a dummy. Def only one chamber in the tank though.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Kanticoy, you considering a monoshock bobber ???

Eric, Hotfunk and others, I have to tell ya I loved that 200 tank until I put the seat on the rails. I hated it. Don't know if it looked worse in person or if it's just me, but it was like I was slapped in the face. My heart sank and I just plain hated it. Thing sits up high then just drops straight off. It has no flow, yada, yada, yada. That is why I went and grabbed the old tank. Now, I think the old tank does look much better, but it would require a bunch of time/work.
Enter the cb tank with old school patina and it's kinda a combination of the two tanks. A little boxer than the CL, better lines than the 200 and little to no work to make it work. It seems to fit the direction of where I was wanting to go with the build.
However, the chopper tank could still be in the picture too. It has great lines and looks good, but I'm afraid it might take it to the "same old, same old kinda look". Joe, I'm not sure if the extra filler is functional or not. Anyhow, my plans are to try the CB tank and see how it fits/looks and go from there. I'm hopeing the patina (and maybe some knee pads) will give it a rebel look but fit the bike with good lines.
So I do feel I have some options that will allow me to ride the rest of the season, be easy/cheap to do and give it kinda a different look that fits/looks good.
Hope I'm not bursting anyones bubble. So please keep the ideas and opinions flowing. I apprecdiate them all and its nice to have all the help.

To get an idea of looks go to JRK's 350 bobber build. I believe the cb 360 tank is just like the one on his build only w/o the cool knee dents.

Thanks CC. Sounds like if I don't take it you may have others interested??

I think the cb tank will do the trick and the paint looks in reasonable condition and is soo old school. As soon as you mentioned pads in your post I thought knee indents but it would be a shame to take a hammer to it and ruin the paint. I still like the 200 tank but I get what you mean when you sit it with something and it doesnt work. I think that the seat needs a square front edge to work with that 200 tank. If the cb tank doesnt work for you it might be a better option to fab a seat for the 200 and then work on the cl tank when you have the time later. Just some thoughts for ya.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Hotfunk, should have the cb tank sometime next week. I'm pretty stoked to try it. I really hope it works out. Yeah, keeping that paint on the tank might be the key to ge the look and knee pads would just add to it. We'll see.
I got a little bit done today. I Made a hinge for the seat and got it mounted. Haven't decided on how to do the back end yet. I bought some little bumper feet that fit over the bolts and would just sit on the top rails. Seems to work pretty good and it keeps the seat at a good angle. i may leave it that way instead of getting springs. I'll post up photos tomorrow.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Made a hinged seat mount. It works, and was pretty easy to do. I needed to keep the back end of the seat as low as possible so I decided against springs of any kind. I welded some pipe to the frame that the spring bolts could slip into. Did the trick and made a nice clean job. The seat sits nice and tight to the frame and it feels really good. I also now have a curved plated holder. I plan to finish it with a mount on top for a '49 ford tail light. Just spoke with Chrisf and he is working on the swing arm right now and should have it in the mail by the first of the week. Once it and the tank get here things should go very fast. I may take a day or two from work to finish it up.
Pics:
I washed off some of the dust and metal grinds. sprayed a coat of self etch primer. A little bit of sanding and it will be ready for paint. Rear of the seat now sits nice and tight

Battery box mounted. It kinda looks like it floats. seat has nice lines and fits the frame well.

Curved plate holder. Once I fab the mount on top for the ford tail light, I'll move it to the other side.
DSC_1389.jpg

Side stance with the seat mounted. Once I get the swingarm and tank all that should be left to do will be the chain, fab a brake hub arm and brake linkage, and mount the rear fender. I'll also have to touch up some paint in a bunch of places that got banged around and repaint the rear of the frame. Getting stoked!

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Wow! the build is looking great, noticed you don't have the
tips on the headers anymore, did they produce and bad sound?
Might be doing something with tips on mine, but having a hard time.
finding a set. Keep up the great work.
