Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

fender man.. rock a fender.. you can roll it back so not so much is covering the tire but you will want a fender... you hit one hard bump that pops you off the seat and on the wheel... your day is not going to be good... will be a mess!

here is what i am talking about on my CB350 bobber
mine is set up to be 3/4 swoop

if you jsut roll that forward ont he tire more it work work out great...

ooh ya! this is what i saw one day on ebay and it got my motor turning... gave me the idea to chop the bob

I vote no fender.
Man, I'll tell ya, I'm really leaning that way!
If I go no fender I may weld a small 3-4" (or whatever length is needed) hoop (sissybar) as a saftey stop. I really like the statement of no fender, but I've not decided on that yet.

Joe, that 350 looks like it just needs a little paint and she'd be ready to go. I like the inspiration bike but I don't like the tank. It kinda looks like mine though so I'm not sure why I don't like it. Anyhow, UPS says my seat will be here tomorrow. If it doesn't fit right, which I almost afraid that it's not going to, then it will be up for sale.
I ordered a brake light and tag holder today and they should be here by the weekend. Over the next couple of days I'll need to get in touch with Chrisf and see where he is at with the swingarm. man, I'm getting really stoked.
I also have a 21" front wheel comming but that will probably be part of the winter redo.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

ya the tank needs some TLC still, i did tank dents cause i was going to run mid controls then i found a set of forwards off a old sporty chop that i am going to use instead... witht he 21 front that is going to look insane! what does the seat look like you are going wiht... i am in the market for a seat

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

I really like the idea of putting in a small sissy bar instead of running a fender. I think it will give you that bad ass look, and you wont have to worry so much about your testicles..

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

I looked back through the history of the seller and they were going for $150-$200. I picked it up for $75. I called the seller after I purchased it to ask for tracking info and they said that I got a steal. Here ya go.

Man I just wish my wife was as concerned about them as everyone else, haha. Yeah Boom, I'm leaning hard at the possibilityt of running the no fender so a 3-4" sissy stop might be the answer. I think it looks so bad ass if I have to say so myself.

I realized that every photo i took was with the fender on. Maybe that says something?? went back and took another w/o fender

I also threw the old tank on for a couple and man I really like it. I was considering painting the cb200 tank this color but man the tank has some nice lines....

Would require a good bit of work. I'd have to close up the back like I did with the 200 tank and it also has some pretty good size dents. But i really like the lines

Not sure what to decide, let me know what you think. Oh yeah bTW, the fender is just stuck on and it is crooked, so is the tank and the seat.

Anyhow, his build thread is a great read. Once you start it's hard to stop. Way cool build thread. Dude has some serious skills!

Holy shit... that re-phased motor sounds sick!

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

2nd tank 100% better! but you are going to have to fill in that back section on the tank so you can not see under it... i think it would look amazing if you could have that tank flow right to the seat, just some sheet metal and bondo bud... few light tack welds. that tank sits much more into the tubes where the blue one sits on top of the bike. on top keeps the lines of a racer, but the other tank fits the bob look much better... dig it man! how about JOCKEY shift?! i am doing it on mine... super easy to do, would flow nicely...

the more i see that swing arm the more i want to kick mine out, how much is that, 3 in? did you stick it in a jig then add that too it? or did i read that chris did that for you... either way... i am leaning more and more that way! I think if you where to mound that seat up and then instaed of a sissy bar, just bend a rail that flows about an inch higher than the rear of the seat but follow the same lines of it that would look killer, then you can mount or un mount the rear fender as you see fit, leave it chrome just shine that sucker up like no other, would have a very 70 look to it with the chrome rear fender.. vry cool

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Try something like this and then put the seat on there, but do not fill it in, leave the rails open so it looks like part of the frame, not filled in...
also on the seat since you have suspension i would STRONGLY advise you not to use spring style seat springs, get the hair pin kind (2 - 1 inch) they would be very small. I hate how spring seats with suspension looks. I can snap some pics of the ones i got (if i can find them int he back shop) but it really looks better

to give you an idea what i mean on the frame check this out:

(this is Sk8Rd's bike on another forum he did an AMAZING job on it)

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

I agree wtih everything you are saying. I like the second tank too but it's going to take some work for sure. I think this is how it always starts. Want to do something quick and it turns into something that you have to live and breath until its finished ;D
That bike you posted is sick. That little hoop is just what I was talking about. I wasn't going to run springs on the seat but i wasn't sure how I was going to mount it. can you get any photos of the mounts you were talking about?

On the swingarm, Chris f is doing it for me. He may be interested in doing the same for you too. I did mine 4.5" and I raised the top shock mounts up about 1.5". I'm not sure how that would work on yours since you moved your shock mounts?

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

+1 with Joe. I agree the orange tank looks best, good lines and hides the top frame rail better.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Hey thanks guys. The cl tank it is if I can get the back end to look right. I'll also have to relocate the front mounts again (moved them for the cb200 tank and because my electronics are under there) and I'll also have to figure out a mount for the rear. And it will be needing a new petcock, but man the lines look so good. That cb 200 tank did fit the cafe but it just doesn't flow down to the seat right on the bobber.
I have to say that damn fender is really growing on me. I'd love to keep it chrome but it has some pretty good dings and surface rust. Guess I could run it that way (chrome) until I found one in better shape. I'll keep you guys posted on progress.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Troy with all of us that have pulled off our fenders i am sure someone has a good condition front fender laying aroudn they would give you... i would send mine but i am using it on mine... someone will come through for you, if not stalk ebay, the chrome is the way to go for sure!
here is what i am talking about on the seat
check out what Bosken did on his... he has the shocks and used the hair pin style... look sick!

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

ya, I def like those style of springs way better if its not a hardtail. And ya, go with the orange tank, it goes better with the new style, and youve already cut that perfectly good cafe, dont go and repaint that awesome tank!

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

JRK, that would be very cool! My fender is infact pretty ugly, so a nice shiney one would be awesome! I'll have to put up a want ad.
As far as the springs go, I really like the ones you posted, especially if the bike is a softtail. However, my rails are very flat and with any kind of spring at the back of the seat, the seat will be too high in the back and push the rider (me)forward. It would be pretty uncomfortable.
Initally I was thinking about welding some brackets and use the bolts on the seat to bolt it up solid. However, the brackets would almost have to be 2" high in order to get it bolted down. I think thats too high. And the shortest spring I could find on ebay was 2", so again a little too high. So it's all about the same ether way.
My next thought would be to use the bolts that run down the middle of the seat to mount it to the frame. Then, trim down the bolts in the back and put rubber stoppers over the bolt stubbs. They would ride on the frame. That would put the back end down to less than .5" I think that heigth would be the most comfortable. Question is, are the two bolts in the middle enough to hold the seat (note: they would not mounted to a hinge. Mounted solid to the frame)? And second ? How would it look?

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Dude, yes yes yes on the 360 tank. And if you need a fender, I have a couple you might could use. Great chrome on both. One has a weird dent in it, but it isn't very noticeable. .By the way, I say it's a go on the rear fender. It really makes the bike to me. Good stuff man. You impress me with your ability to envision something and then grow the rocks to see it through. Good job man!
