Hey there. Back in January I game my GS750 frame + swingarm and a few other small parts to a local shop called 'The Powder Pro' to be powder coated. Its now over 7 months after then, and I'm still waiting for my parts, the past few weeks I've stopped in (since they never answer their cell phones and don't return messages you leave, this has caused me to waste a ton of gas driving there and back) they've given me a bunch of BS like, "Frames are time consuming to complete" and "They're waiting to get it back from the sand blasters". Today was another day they told me they'd have it done by, and I can't get a hold of them. Went to the shop, both cars were there, they wouldn't answer the door, or the door to their house, located on the same property (the lights were on, some windows were open), or either of their cell phones. I don't even give a shit if my frame gets done by them anymore, but I haven't actually seen my frame since January. Not to mention that I realized today that both their website and facebook page no longer exist. I'm out of ideas of how to get my stuff back short of filing in a small claims court. This is in Woodstock, IL.

Anybody know what I can legally do to get my things back?

PS: Sorry if that was hard to follow, I'm kinda pissed right now.

Edit: I do know that the shop at least had a presence here on DTT. If anybody knows Joe from there, tell him to answer his friggin phone once in a while.

Wait - that's JRK from here. Shoot him a PM or post in his thread. Dude seems 100% legit, so Im sure he's not being shady.

Yeah, thats kinda why I was reluctant to draw any conclusions at first, but it's getting ridiculous. And they don't seem to give a shit that's its taken 7 months. Sent him a PM, will see what happens.

why did you wait so long ? you have been burned by scum .period zero excuse for what has happened.what happened is called theft

Frames aren't hard to do. Others with more experience can chime in, but I've had frames come back in a couple days -- I did the prep work, however, but didn't blast them. 7 months is completely ridiculous, and it doesn't matter if he's on this forum or not. You'd be generous to allow him a couple days by the next time you talk to him, but threaten small claims. And if he doesn't follow through, file the small claims form. I'm guessing there is something else going on -- he somehow fucked up your parts, or he's having some other kind of problems; not your problem, however.

Thats kinda what I was thinking, they might have screwed it up and have been spending time trying to fix it (they do also do some fabrication work). But ya, they're definitely not getting my business ever again, I had originally had them do it because they had a presence on DTT. The one problem with small claims is I don't have any sort of order receipt to prove that I had requested work done. They were a small enough shop that they just wrote down some basic info about what I wanted done, with my #, and thats the most detailed order form I ever saw. And I don't make enough money that I'm cool risking paying court costs if I don't have enough evidence.

Whatever happens you better not pay a dime. I would NOT accept any other alternative, assuming your side of the story is spot on. There's always two sides to every story...Not calling you a liar, but he might have a "good" reason.

Yeah, I'd consider paying a reduced price if it by some magic is done and done good when I manage to get a hold of them. But Its about an hour round trip each time I go out there (which was already 2 times just today), thats a lot of gas given how many times I've gone out there, as well as a good chunk of my time.

Dude...we're talking 7 MONTHS...not days, not weeks, MONTHS. If I picked this up, even if they were plated in gold, I better be looking at a $0.00 invoice.

I honestly wouldn't pay anything... I hand sanded, cleaned, primed, and painted my bike in 2-3 days. I'm sure he has access to tools that make the job 10x easier and faster. I would have gotten suspicious after 2 weeks. Surprised you lasted 7 months.

Most states have a nominal fee for filing, $20 or so. Sounds like you have enough with the receipt to take them to court, and the threat of small claims is supposed to be enough to get them to get their shit together or come clean; you shouldn't actually have to appear in court. If they still refuse, then it's decision time: write off losses, talk some shit, or follow through and see them in court. Even if you win, it can still be costly and a pain in the ass.

Shit, if these guys are on DTT, why doesn't someone write them a note, tell them about this thread, and get their side?

Pre-trial arbitration is so hot these days, and you've got a jury of your peers online and standing by.

Go ahead and ask them for their side. I had believed most of what they said @ first, about the shop which stripped it not being able to get their corrosive stuff, or the latest one is that they did shoot it, but it didn't turn out good, and they sent it back to get stripped, and were going to shoot it again. The excuses kept coming so often I started to doubt what they were saying. I'd be interested if somebody else got the whole story from them.

Good luck in getting your parts back. In the future, a spectacular shop is in Crest Hill, IL near Joliet. CPC Powder Coating is the name. Here is a link to their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CPCPOWDERCOATING . Their quality is the best, and they offer quick turnaround with never a hassle. I have used them many times.

Dang, they've got quite the operation going on there. Thanks for the suggestion, will have to look into them when I go to get some more stuff done.

ok so here was my experience with the powder pros...

I sent them a finished supermoto rear wheel for my cb450, and I also sent the front wheel, which wasn't finished. I needed my front wheel powdered to match the rear. even though my rear was anodized, he said that they could match it with powder.. I said alright and sent him my stuff. (im over in grand rapids) anyways.. a month goes by and I haven't heard anything from them, then I start messaging him via DTT and getting the routine "this is taking longer than expected, we are waiting for samples, we're trying our best here etc etc.. which was fine, I knew it was going to be tough. another month goes by, im starting to get impatient cause my bike has no wheels, thank god it was winter.. finally a few months later he says they got the right gold powder and shot the wheels. I was very pleased to hear this, except for how the original quote he sent me of 300 dollars, magically changed to nearly 600. he tried to explain the powder they used was a different multi stage powder and it was much more expensive, which I was not arguing with him about, I didn't care at this point.. I was super pissed because he just changed the original quote and doubled it, without even letting me know of the changes.. long story short, I paid the man cause I had well over a grand in wheels sitting there, got my shit back, and it doesn't match.. its probably as close as youll get powder to match anodized aluminum, but still looks way, way off.. even the black on the wheel hoop didn't match.. my rear finished wheel was like shiny black and he sprayed my front with like a satin.. said that was also really difficult to match up.. I simply couldn't believe that.. I know black is a bitch to match, but at least shoot a gloss finish at it... so there ya go.. really hope you get your stuff back man, sorry to hear you are having problems.

These guys sounded like they were still planning on charging me full price. Was in there a couple weeks ago and he said he'd try and and at least get me a price quote from Joe (who I guess takes care of that stuff). When I just asked for a ballpark, it was still looking to be around $350. Not sure how to get around them demanding money for work which took 7 months, assuming I can even get a hold of them. Maybe a threat of no more business from DTT?

You can also report them to the BBB in your area. You don't want to come across as trying to blackmail them, but at the same time your entitled to certain things as well as the consumer.
