CB100 - My first build.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ha! I was waiting for that. Rest assured it wasn't as good as it looked in the pics plus it never would have survived pulling the dents.

Re: CB100 - My first build.

Got some parts back from powder coating today. So I decided to get starting putting her back together. I want to get her up and running again before sending stuff out to paint.

After making a total mess of the swing arm bushings, things started falling int place.

So now I have a roller and I mocked up the seat. I'm really digging the bare metal look of the tank but if I decided to go with that, I'm not sure what I'd do with the seat. Gloss black to match the frame maybe?

Anyway, hoping to get her running this weekend but it'll take some time to run the cables and wires. One thing I will say to anyone else doing this for the first time like I am, "If you're taking pictures on the tear down and you think you've taken enough, trust me, you haven't. Take as many pictures as you can an then take 2 more of everything."

Sig'd! Haha!

I think a lot of people get sucked into leaving the tank bare when they see it stripped.. but I feel it's a little bit of a cop-out to the quality of your other efforts. Just my 2c, I think you should take the extra time to paint it!

Looking good!

Re: CB100 - My first build.

I'm following this due to me having a 1972 CB100 tore down at the moment.

I either need to get a new head and cylinder or have mine bored. Or another engine all together.

So having a runner is a good thing. Maybe I will some day.

Keep up the good work.....love the seat pan. Tank too...............but, I agree too, you should paint it.

Re: CB100 - My first build.

yep you have to much shine and polish already on that frame to pull off the bare tank look... would just look like you were too lazy or chicken to paint at this point.

Looks good...

Re: CB100 - My first build.

It's been a while but I've made a little progress.

I chopped the fender and I'm almost done with the seat. Getting ready to send the tank, seat and fender off to paint.

Some people seem to think the seat is too big, but I like it and I think it'll all come together once it's painted.

How is she coming along now ?

She's coming along okay. Honestly I haven't had a lot of time to work on her lately though. Got the tank, fender and seat back from paint and I'm really happy with them. Now I have to get the exhaust sorted and fit the new carb. Hoping to be finished by New Years.

Thanks for your interest!

Re: CB100 - My first build.

Well, thanks to finally getting some time between Christmas and New Year's, I was able to finish the build. It's not perfect, but I have to say I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I took her out for the first ride this morning and it was awesome. The bike is really light and quick. She'll never do the ton but it was still awesome.

Once I finished the seat, I took it to a local upholstery shop and they suggested I make a seat pan they could use for the seat pad. I as really tired of fiberglass to I used some .118" Kydex I ordered from Amazon. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004U6VBU8/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Just a minute or two in the oven and pliable as leather. I laid it over the seat (which I had previously wrapped in tin foil) and held it in place until it cooled. after that I just had to cut it to shape. The upholstery guy was awesome and had the seat pad done in an hour and a half.

There are still a couple of things I'd like to do (change out the rear shocks, get a new speedo) but that can all be done later.

Thanks to everyone on DTT for all the helpful posts and threads. Couldn't have done it without ya. I learned a lot through the process and I'm looking forward to trying again with 350 or 500. For now though, I just going to enjoy this one. ;D

Re: CB100 - My first build.

This looks sweet, I was a little worried about the rear but with paint it fits nicely :) great job. My first on road bike (back in the 80's) was a little Suzuki 50 and this reminds me of it, Thanks 8)

Congratulations, that is a very nice build with great attention to detail. Looks llike a fun around town bike.

that velocity stack and heatwrap really finish the bike off nice, the M-steer looks a bit wide with those mirrors on but nice job!

enjoy riding it!

Awesome man! How's it run? It does look great with that paint job. I agree about the bars too, they look a little wide. Maybe cut an inch or two out of the center and weld them back together with a slug? Just thinking out loud, you did a great job.

I do have a couple of extra inches on the ends. Could I just shorten them that way so that I won't have to weld?
