Cl360 "vader"

Definitely better air flow. Potentially better filtering (depending on the filter chosen).

In either case, if you plan on taking this thing offroad, stacks are a questionable decision. Under "normal" road use with stacks, you'll be looking at engine rebuilds every 5K-7K miles depending on which seasons you ride and such... Offorad, much more often... maybe every few hundred miles, even?
wow! I never plan to hit the dirt... Just like the tires, yes I know it's crazy but I really like mean tires and have no desire to go trail riding on this bike. However if your saying a rebuild every 5-7yrs I might need to find a way to filter better. I wonder if I could get a thin piece of foam and cover it with filter oil. I have some filter oil from gas powered rc cars.

Another thing that I will troubleshoot tomorrow is jetting I am wanting to try straight pipes until I can afford some slip ons for back pressure.

I got it wired up tonight. Tomorrow will be timing, exhaust install, tighten everything down and hopefully go for a test ride.

It's only an overhaul... not as bad as it sounds. Pull the cylinders, hone 'em, pop in new rings. Good to go. Every other overhaul you'll want to check the valve seats and measure bore diameters.

That tank is the tits!

I got the exact same stacks on my cb360 and I pulled the screens completely.

Yup. Me, too.
I'm running with a set of exterior filters like those I mentioned in a previous post.

Re: Cl360 "vader"

Oh man I love that. Looks great. I finished putting her back together but got a lot of smoke out of that right cylinder that I was worried about. Looks like a bore or new jugs. Neither of which I have done. I also think I will reseat the valves and make it right. Any advice on who or how to bore.... Or should I buy a set of jugs on ebay.

Get a compression tester. That will let you know whether or not the cylinders need some attention. If you're getting low numbers on the compression test, add a tablespoon of oil in through the spark plug hole and wait a minute and then try again. Higher compression numbers means time for some attention on the rings and/or cylinders.

Burning oil might just be valve seals, so that's why I suggest the compression test first.

Re: Cl360 "vader"

I did a test and it was at 100lbs. I just need ut new rings and used a cylinder hone but there was some pitting.
I haven't tried the oil trick since the new rings but with the old rings it shot up from 90to 170+

170 is in spec. Call it good, man.

No I think you misunderstood I'm only running 100 right now. I only get 170 when I put oil in the cylinder. It also has really slow throttle response. Like reeeeaally slow. Is that due to the low compression or a carb issue I need to work out as well?

I did misunderstand. Thanks for the clarification. If the compression shoots to 170 when you add oil to the cylinders then the problem is your rings. Possibly bad enough to require a bore job, but you'll definitely want to hone it and get new rings put in. Next step is to get the bores measured to see they're in spec; then you can decide how to move forward.

Re: Cl360 "vader"

Saturday was a good day of trouble shooting. My compression readings went up to 150 and the smoking stopped, I think k it was just all the oil I put in the cylinder to install the pistons. So it looks like I'm close. But the throttle response is really slow. Either air sneaking in the carbs or carbs need a rebuild. I think I have lost my mind definitely my budget because I just ordered a set of mikuni vm30s and some mufflers for back pressure. The straight pipes hollered too much for me which I didn't think was possible.

150 isn't great, but it'll do if you don't want to tear into the engine. :p

Have you checked the ignition timing yet (preferably with a strobe light)?

Re: Cl360 "vader"

I have done valves and timing but not with a strobe... That is a skill and a tool that I have not yet aquired

Re: Cl360 "vader"

Yup i have an air leak. I sprayed some starter fluid on the boots and vroom she took off. The boots look perfect I think it's the seal to the engine. I guess I will try some sealant along with the gasket.

Re: Cl360 "vader"

A lot has happened in one week. I replaced the stock carbs with mikuni. I switched to mufflers and pods that came with the mikunis.

Switched out pitted cylinder with a nice good condition. Lightly honed the new cylinder. Did not change rings since they were brand new from last build with only 15 minutes of run time. (maybe a bad idea)

Ran great for 15 minutes then wouldn't idle and was hard to keeps started. Changed the idle jet from 50 to 45 to lean it out on idle maybe... Went for another test ride and same thing happened except when restarting I noticed smoke coming out of the engine breather. Checked my valves again and they are good. Checked compression and right is at 130 and left is at 70 Aaaaaaaaaaaah I put some oil in the cylinders and right went up to 230 and left went to 120.

My assumptions: valves need to be reseated. Engine bored new pistons and new rings. What else could I possibly fix? Any recommendations. I really want this bike rideable by barbers in two weeks.

Re: Cl360 "vader"

Bad news! I took the head off for the fourth time only to notice that my chain front chain tensioner was in the wrong place and all chewed up. Under the cam lobes were small pieces of metal in the oil. I went ahead and broke town the top end. Cylinders are okay but lots of etal pieces in the oil. Valves probably started leaking because metal made its way into the seals.

I am repeating the valves on Monday or getting them recut.

Is there any way to get all the metal out of the bottom end without tearing it all down?
