Re: Cl360 "vader"

I don't understand why someone can't have a great time building a bike ask questions from guys who have been doing it a long time and then go go out for a great ride. It seems like I have to fit into the DTT mold and do the things listed above plus more or get out.
HaHa....What a maroon....You are doing it wrong!
You ask for and get advice from a whole lot of experienced people....
You are building a work of art. We aren't being negative, we are being Honest and Objective. We probably thought you were building a motorcycle, something you ride around on, safely. You asked, we answered. Our mistake, I apologize for myself anyway. Since you are building something strictly for art, without real function, it's beautiful. You are inspired. You are original...oh wait, well not original. Let's say you are "Unique", like everyone else...
If you intend on making a reasonably ridable bike, and think we are being negative, they you are an idiot.
Do you wonder why the advice is what it is? Have you thought about the motivations? Have you thought about the experience of the people making the recommendation? Do you think they are completely ignorant? Let me fill you in on why the ignorance is yours.
Let's look at the recommendation you think are negative and group think.
Hagon shocks? Cliche....not really. they are the least expensive GOOD shocks. The recommendation was to keep cost at the minimum and yet provide you with some very good quality items. there are much better shocks in the $400-$1500 range, but the expereinced people "get" you aren't looking for the expensive answer.
Fork Braces? CB360s have thin, 33mm fork tubes. they twist easily, and without the brace, you WILL get wobble and tank slappers. Try this without the brace one...put the front wheel between your legs and grab the handlebars. Lightly twist...watch how much the fork tubes twist. This is a recommendation for safety.
Continental tires? The "Classic tires, like firestones, are Cliche, and are built like they were in the 1930s. Poor traction, wrong cross sectional shape, poor traction..... The other brands are modern, road gripping tires that will improve the handling and safety of the bike. They are also reasonably priced. there are some other modern tires, but EXPERIENCE has shown they are the best value and grip for the $$
PODS? Pods has less surface area then the stock mufflers. Cheap pods block important openings in the inlet to the carb. It is nearly impossible for a laymen to tune a bike to work well with pods. CV carbs work poorly with pods. Even other carbs don't do well with the tiny restrictive pods. there are better solutions, including the UNI foam and K&N, but all require some carburetor massaging to get working reasonably well. Stock actually works best for these engine. Good pods, with some good tuning, will work too.....
So whose the idiot? By your comments, you want a poor handling, lousy running, unsafe to drive motorcycle that looks like it's your handy work, your brain child. you say you want to increase the top speed, yet you are doing things to make it even less capable of that.
Well, by my way of thinking, your bike is the negativity in the post. You COULD build a bike that looks relatively the same, but has the "right" stuff to make it a fine handling, safe to ride, original creation.... but you are just hacking it up.
Funny thing, you may be 33, married 15 years, and do other things well, but when it comes to this particular project, you are an idiot.
Maybe when your in your 50's, married twice as long, and look back, you may say "Man, I was an idiot back then"...or not.
I did idiotic things in my 30's...have some scars to prove it....
People like ADc and CrazyPJ have VALUABLE insight in experience. I can't speak for them, but I bet they did some idiotic things in the past. they learned from it...I know CrazyPJ has some internal titanium parts to prove it too....
This place is a place to learn. Learning does not mean approval.
Do what you want, it's only a forum....No one is twisting your arm or forcing you to do anything. But you are missing some valuable information, information that is otherwise expensive to learn....monetarily and physically.
