Ok, it's not the World's Largest, but it is the World's Longest...

This is my DS7 at the southshore footing of the Causeway Bridge over Lake Pontchartrain. The Causeway is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest continuous span over open water. The bridge crosses the lake at its widest point and is 24 miles in length. At it's midway point you're hard pressed to see land due to the curvature of the Earth!
Lake Pontchartrain itself is somewhat noteworthy as well, as it's the 2nd largest saltwater lake in the U.S.

I had plans to hit two more Worlds Largests in the area, but ran out of available time. The Superdome is about 15min from me and is the World's Largest Fixed Domed Structure. And the Port of New Orleans has the longest wharf in the world at 2 miles long and can accommodate 15 vessels at one time. The Port of N.O. is also the southern most point of the Port of South Louisiana which spans 54 miles to Baton Rouge Louisiana, and is the Largest Bulk Port in the World.

Ok, next mark is along the same lines as Maritimes.
Everyone has a "______ Capital of the World" near them. For example, Just the other side of the Mississippi River from me is Bridge City, LA. Whose claim to fame is being the "Gumbo Capital of the World".
The mark is... Your bike next to a sign that proclaims that location as the "_____ Capital of the World".

Chris, I think you are cursed.. It seems no one can get your marks. I personally didnt think it was that hard. I am offhosre so if it is still in sesh later this week when I get home I'll have a stab at it.

It has done wothing but pour rain here since the mark was set and as much as I would normally still ride I have 0 tread left on my rear well and large rivers for roads has kept the bike in the garage. It is supposed to stop tomorrow so I may be bale to get this one then. I live in Potatoe Capital of the world. McCain Foods (McDonalds FF maker) is headquartered in the next town up from me. I technically work for them

Ok first day if sun in almost 2 weeks. So son and I made the 60 mile ride to the french fry capital of the world. Pics.

Next mark. Your bike parked in front of something from a movie. A location, building, person. Etc. Have to say what movie and scene.

Oh if the weather is decent tomorrow I will try to get this one. Looks like t storms but we shall see.

I'll have to try and get this one- they are filming the new Capt. America in Cleveland all week. And I can't beleive the last one hung out there so long and none of us from Cleveland stepped up with a shot of the Rock & Roll hall of fame - after all, we are the Rock and Roll Capital of the World!

This was definitely my favourite "hunt" so far! Great idea. Actually even found the clip on Youtube that shows the object! 8)

Headed down to Point Edward to capture this one.

A bit of history. The bridge closest to the camera is the Blue Water Bridge (open originally in 1938) and despite several modifications and upgrades, it simply could not keep up or support increased traffic demand as this quickly became (still is) the second busiest crossing between Canada and the U.S. (second only to The Ambassador Bridge which links Detroit and Windsor). So to help reduce congestion, the span was "twinned" in the mid/late 90's. It was really cool to watch them build that. They are now most often referred to as the "twin bridges".

When the second span opened they immediately shut down the original bridge to update and reconfigure lanes (as the original bridge would now be strictly used for west bound traffic - new span accommodates east bound).

During this time, Bless The Child (staring Kim Basinger, Jimmy Smits, Rufus Sewell, Christina Ricci etc. etc.) was being filmed and seeing as the Blue Water Bridge was closed for revamping it worked out perfectly for SEVERAL takes so the films crews swooped in to do their thing.

And here's another shot from roughly the angle at the end of the clip.

Here's the clip. If you're confused, the New York skyline was added in via the magic of Hollywood. ;)

It was pretty cool when they threw that car off the bridge. I was there to watch that ;D

Gotta love riveted construction. If you look closely when the car is falling you can clearly see that the old bridge is being worked on.

I'll do my best to come up with a good mark tomorrow. Gotta head to work right now........ ::)
