FINISHED! Ready To Ride...1971 cb350

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

Love the look of your bike. Reminds me a bit of an old BSA Goldie. Very sweet. I don't think i'd be too concerned about the dents in the mufflers restricting flow. I haven't been through the rest of your thread, but if the motor is pretty much standard and doesn't rely on a free flowing intake & exhaust, it won't make much difference. Good luck, well done once again.

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

i think its the perfect excuse to try building some custom pipes!!!

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

Haha yah that is probably what is going to happen to be honest

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

Threw it back together for a couple pics with my brothers bike.

Going out of town for a week so the exhaust issues are going to have to wait.

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

rear light set up looks very clean i dig it heaps with that seat. where abouts are you mounting the plate number?

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

I'll mount it vertically to the left shock mount

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

will the wheel hit the tail light at full compression??

looks great!
your brothers bike looks awesome too!

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

There is just enough clearance for the tire not to touch. Its close though haha.

Yah I love my brothers bike, you can find his build thread on here also if your interested in it.

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

Well I've ran into some problems getting it to run.

Valve timing is right, points are right, getting a good spark, getting fuel, and I cant get it to fire at all. Not really sure what else I can try.

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

Compression numbers? Also... make sure you don't have the coils switched.

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

I don't have the compression numbers but I will likely be picking up a compression tester this weekend and will post em when I know. The coils are not switched.

Getting quite frustrated with it at the moment.

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *Exhaust Clearance Issues*

Got it started! And it runs great, just a tad bit lean but nothing a little jetting can't fix.

The issue was that I installed the spark advancer backwards so it ended up sparking on the wrong stroke. Feel like a dumbass hahah. I'll upload some videos soon

sounding good mate. has to be one of the best feelings when you put a bike back together start it and she runs for the first time.

x2

Love the build! It's lookin' good!

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *RUNNING 7-1-12*

Thanks bud. I still have a bunch of odds and ends to finish but its rideable so I'm super happy with it.

I've developed a decent oil leak from a rocker pin o-ring so I'm going to have to replace it soon. In the process of shortening my new front brake cable, need to finish wiring it up, brake light switch, waiting on my battery(currently have the stock batter bungied on the back haha), the rear sets still hit but I'm researching where I can get the materials I need for some custom pipes.

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *RUNNING 7-1-12*

great Build! love what you have done with it!

Re: My First Build. 1971 cb350 *RUNNING 7-1-12*

Sorry for the lack of updates in the past weeks. Vacation and riding it instead of finishing it have gotten in the way haha. I got my battery in so I'm currently rewiring the whole thing today and if all goes right I'll get some pics and video up of it with the seat on. I'm still figuring out my exhaust clearance but I think I've settled on just fabbing up a custom exhaust but that might be a month or two down the line when I can afford it, for now I'm just riding it with the shifter and break lever adjusted a bit high.
